My friend, I am a 29 year Eaton Rep. I was there when the FR Series was designed and developed. There is literally nothing I can say to improve on your video. Excellent job! You just put on a clinic.
I have an FR, and it range shifts up perfectly. About 1/2 the time, when I do a range shift down, it seems slow/lazy engaging into low range. You can make the downshift from 6 to 5 with the stick, but you have to bring the engine speed up until the range shift fully completes/engages. It never grinds, it just often doesn’t make the complete low-range shift until after the front stick shift is complete, and the revs are matched. It’s the only trans I have ever seen act like this. Any ideas?
@@Xkekeskfndsmw Ok, yes, I know exactly what’s happening. You are simply not supposed to down shift through a range. 6-5th gear. You are actually getting the stick in gear before the shift completes in the auxiliary section of the transmission. It’s very easy to do with the FR because the shift lever movement is reduced by almost 50%. In other words, you are getting it into gear faster with your exact same timing. So, the answer is do not make the downshift from 6-5th gear. At that point you are traveling less than 12 mph. Use your brakes from 6th gear down to zero. Hope this helped.
Hello, this does help. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! I really appreciate it!.It does seem like the FR high to low range shift happens at a really slow speed compared or RT10’s, 13’s and 18’s I have driven. There is a bulletin I found: RWRG0040 - Low Range Synchronizer Failure It also talk about the synchro becoming glazed, specifically on the FR. It feels like exactly what you are saying, but also feels like the synchro has no bite to it - the low range has never grinded, like other trucks I have ran with a bad synchro. I image a glazed one would grind too? Tyson (From Saskatchewan, Canada)
Love these videos, I've already done an 18 speed and am currently doing two 13 speeds and a 10 speed thanks to your videos. Was always intimidated when I took the top off but after watching all these it wasn't so bad. Thanks for taking the time to do them.
My Super Ten Speed Eaton Fuller started to make a noise when downshifting from 7 to 6, if Im easy letting rpms drop a little it wont do it. Syncros maybe?
That output shaft has to have anti seize put on it before the yoke or that thing will seize on those splines terribly and you can’t remove it over time!! I have had to cut them off with torch before it’s no fun.
I've got a FRO16210C... Mine is grinding when I go from HIGH to LOW range... Is it possible to remove the back box and make the repair WITHOUT removing the transmission from the truck? I thought a mechanic fixed this same issue in one of my other trucks and didn't remove the transmission... it was grinding from LOW to HIGH.
The problem with the metrics series is the rear box is too small to lift off with a jack and the back section won't come off without removing the shift bar housing since the high low range fork is connected to the shift bar housing , your regular 8s,13,15 and 18s you can pull thr backsection with it still in the truck
Good morning, I am an Italian missionary in Uganda. I need a lot of help because the air system broke and there are no mechanics who know how to work with an Eaton fuller gearbox. Do you think you can help me if I send you photos and videos by email? The truck is very old because I use it to make for drilling bore holes for the poor people of Uganda thanks
Thanka for sharing the information. I just rebuilt shift piston in a ten spees What happens if the timing marks arent timed correct ? On the baco shafts and is there anything else to time
hi i would like to ask you where did you get a new 56 teeth above video or a brand new set of the teeth of the gear box. i want to know how much does it cost for the gear.

Excelente trabajo maestro saludos desde torreón coahuila México
When the rear bearing cover gaskets leak do you need to drain the transmission before replacing the gasket?
Vc e demais eu adoro o seu trabalho 👍
Eu também só mecânico 👍
Show me a complict practical of this transmission
what is this red spray for?

Great stuff brother. Can the back cover be removed just to inspect without a lot of work? I think a screw fell in there causing the gears the lock up?
