Built my share of 13 speeds, I had 3 truck all with 12513's. I always painted the inside housing with red primer, it helped keep the insides clean with no build up
That sounds silly though, the oil would eventually soak and lift off the primer so I don’t know how that would help, some things are better left stock you don’t always have to add your own spin to things once the inside of the box is clean during assembly no dirt or anything can get in it

Awesome video ! I rebuild light truck automatics , just rebuilt the 444 in my kw900. I have an issue starting with the trans- Been pulling doubles and 7th is whining while driving unloaded. Do you sell overhaul kits ? I’ve been thinking about upgrading from the 1400 ftlbs to the heavier rated 13 speed.
I'm having trouble with our Interstellar Industries Corporation Hyper-Galactic Mark 4 trans-interface drive (with time generator). We're dead in the water behind Venus and any advise would be great. And good job on the 13 speed.
How long does it take to rebuild a 13 speed transmission to do it right? I had a shop remove my transmission send it out for rebuild it was done overnight and reinstall the next day. Now I drive the truck and it doesn't feel much different than it did before. It washard to get into 5th and 7th gears before. Now it's a little bit better but still feels like it's hanging on those gears and sometimes have to push it in harder to get it into gear. I highly doubt they did a full rebuild but they charged me the$4300 price!!
Hi there thank you for watching bro! FRO16210C rebuilt cost roughly around $2300-$2500 depends how damage it is, the more damage the price goes up truck parts are getting more expensive now ⚙️😖 It takes about a day to teardown and rebuild a transmission.
Interesting this trans doesn't run needle bearings between the shafts and gears (like cars) - is that common with semi's? Do the gears just float until engaged?
This is all good by I don’t know why automatic transmissions took so long to be widely used in tractors/ commercial haulers. Tour buses use the same big horse power diesel engines and they have been in use for decades. Even CDL schools are now teaching new drivers on automatics. The manual has its place until their phased out.
You have way more control with a manual transmission than you do with automatic I've driven them both and I prefer the manual transmission by far over the automatic! The only reason why the automatic became popular is because they wanted to get more meat in the seats. Most people don't have the coordination or the intelligence to drive a truck and shift at the same time.
Hi, just curious as to why my 18 speed won't go into gear easily, or come out easily. Seller said he put in a new clutch. The first half of gears are kind of ok but second half very difficult to engage or disengage. The shifter seems like it's not in gear or partly in gear. Doesn't pop out of gear, just hard to engage. Thanks
A few possible reasons, could be the shifter tower or sliding clutches. Or put full synthetic 50wt transmission oil, if your still getting the same problem then you would have to take it to your mechanic and get it diagnosed. Thank you for watching.
That's AWESOME! APPRECIATE the video. As I've ALWAYS wanted to see how it's done. But one of the many questions that I want to ask. Is WHAT kind of oil SHOULD be used? As I use 50 weight oil. I've heard gear oil. But what is BEST?
As long as it’s an Eaton fuller manual just stick with AW-50 synthetic. If it’s an Allison it would probably be transynd 668 I think or autran 295. Depending on the model transmission I believe
“0”is where you put the timing marks on both countershafts. What would happen if we didn’t properly time the counterhafts? If the twin countershafts are out of time (one or more teeth out of position), one or more of these floater gears will operate slightly out of position with the output shaft. The misalignment will usually allow all the gears to be selected, but that transmission is now doomed for failure.
@@maximumpowertrain1433 Thsnks for your reply. Recently spent 4400.00 having the back section re-done, new output shaft and new yoke. Looks like I could have had the entire transmission done for that plus shipping back N forth !!
@@SOPHIAFLYGIRL wow sorry to hear that, they charged you way too much for just a back section repair. For the price you paid you could’ve got an 18 eaton fuller fully rebuilt. Well actually an 18 speed rebuilt only cost around $3500 to $3800 CAD max.

@@eddiebartholomew9172 i just like to tell my customers it takes a full day and a half just to get me some more time, cuz sometimes things don’t go the way you want it to be there could be problems along the way like suppliers giving you the wrong parts, missing parts, defects etc. But everytime i get a transmission or differential in the shop most of the time i get it done next day. Hi. My truck is a 10 speed manual (Eaton) the gears stock was on high range (I was told that this was a minor issue) But The mechanic told me it's a big damage, they need to rebuild it for $ 3500 without labor!!!. I agreed. Then I found out, that he replaced it with another one, that one doesn't have a cooler (my transmission had one) tell me please if what the mechanic did is right/okay?. Should I accept this transmission ( the new one without the cooler)? He's working on the truck now, haven't finished yet.. I still have time... should I accept what he did or not?? Please reply 🙏
As long as it has same ratio and model i think it’s fine, only difference is you won’t have a cooler in the transmission, but if you have one with no cooler and they gave you one with a cooler i think it won’t fit. but what we usually do is what ever the customer gives us that’s what we give back or give in exchange with the same unit to avoid any mismatch.
