It's crazy how detailed educational videos from the past were.
It seems that a lot of people then had more intellect despite having less knowledge overall. Now, they just try to see how stupid they can look on tic toc.
Back then educators were more interested in educating instead of indoctrinating and brainwashing.
Wow interesting, but now I have a headache I need more coffee or go back to sleep. Thank you for showing us how the gears work. Love your videos.
For someone who’s currently working on my CDL, this was nice perspective to see all the gears in motion. And to reflect on how many gears I could possibly chip. Wish me luck
Professor Sasnak's lecture today was on the workings of a semi transmission. He put a video on and quickly existed the classroom...I suspect he went to the teachers lounge to drink coffee. Conway was in class and so was Phil and Shemaj. I asked Conway if he passed the mid term exam...he took a sip of his cowboy coffee and never answered. Next week is spring break and I am ready. Sasnak's class has been very tough! 😉
This film is from around 1965, I saw it when it was new and all the color-tinted gears were ------ well still tinted. 🤣😂🤣
The most important part of a semi truck is the NUT that connects the steering wheel to seat 💺 😎😂🍻 Make sure its tight!
Wow! I understood about 85% of it. But my brains burnt out now, time for a nap!
Hang in there son
That old yeller out back must be coming to life .😉😉😊👍✌
I've been having a hell of a time getting youtube to recommend things like this, lol.
First shaft, second shaft, other shafts..... sound like he's been shafted!!!! ;-)
Two more and you're at 600 videos. Congratulations! :)
Thank you for this video.
In high school we had to take an aptitude test. Looked at a picture of a fan belt and pulleys and had to determine which direction the fan belt was turning. I had a wonderful career in “sales”. What the heck did I just watch. Watched your video on how to drive an eighteen wheeler, I can assure you I could keep a transmission rebuilder in business.
On the flip side, I could make sure he has in stock every gear, nut and bolt he would ever need to do his job.
Think I will go grind some gears in my truck
Your friend and mine,
Jim&Celia
I seen this instructional video a long time ago! In the 60’s I think.
Man we must all be getting along in age .😉
Thanks, I was sitting here with my wife and we were discussing the inner workings of a truck transmission and up pops a RUclips video that was very informative. Now we know how the 18 gears make up a truck transmission. Thanks for the information.
My God, I thought I was back in the Army watching Training films !
I need a refresher on downshifting the transit. I should have called you!
Great video. Thanks. Keep them coming Stan.. I really enjoyed videos like this.
I like that the text appears for long enough time for my du mb as s to read. And I don't have to try to both read and watch. That's good
Excellent video!
This is like a foreign language to me. I'll just keep driving the semi truck.
The first video with something to do about trucks since you purchased your truck last year. Also the first video I have watched and Liked since you purchased your truck last year.
Welcome back!
Thank you Stan for giving us a lesson on fork and shaft , good video.
Jeez....I'd have avoided loads of headaches if only i was shown this video at driving school 🙄
Gone Fishing
Interesting video but I keep hearing that today the steering wheel holder just selects “D” on the lever and presses the accelerator with his right flip-flop.
Sadly thats becoming the norm
I remember when I started driving trucks 25 years ago I asked a senior driver (when are they coming out with a automatic transmission for semis?) He replied Never! And explained why it’s impossible! LOL
Most all “automatic” transmissions in trucks today are the same transmission just computer over air shifted!! With the exception of most military and state trucks use an Allison automatic trans.
The air shift transmissions are a lot cheaper to make. That’s why they use them in throw away trucks
@@michaeljestice4234 the proper term is AMT short for automated manual transmission. AMT is not cheaper to make than a conventional hydraulic automatic but it is more fuel-efficient, which is why they are becoming common. it is possible to make a hydraulic automatic that is as fuel-efficient as an AMT but the cost and additional weight would never be justified in the real world. the government and the military don't care about fuel efficiency, they want durability and reliability so that's why they go with conventional automatics. "throw away" trucks like you say don't exist, if the driver burns up the clutch because they are stupid the clutch can be replaced. you can't drive an AMT like you drive a conventional automatic, if you creep along slowly or hold yourself on a hill you will burn up the clutch just like you would in a conventional manual vehicle by riding the clutch pedal.
@@marzsit9833 if an amt is not cheaper, then why doesn’t the boss buy me an 18 speed to drive? Because they can buy these transmissions in cheap throw away trucks a whole lot cheaper (as a mechanic friend of mine calls them).
Most big carriers buy throw away trucks, because after 600,000 miles maybe a few more, they get a new truck. These trucks are not designed to be rebuilt just trashed! Also most drivers can’t drive a real truck anymore, just steering wheel holders.
I was in a snow storm last week. I had to shovel out and chain up 3 trucks just so I could get off the road.
That was awesome!
lmao "finesse the shift"
also, what the hell is the "power takeoff gear" for???
This is cool.
Almost stayed awake on this one.🛌
Good morning Stan 🌄 how have you been doing today I hope that you are doing well.
Howdy 🤠
That was different. Keep experimenting, Stan. I cna't imagine what my Ram 8-speed looks like, or a semi's 13 or whatever....
Remove one counter shaft and aux shaft. Add synchronizes to every gear except reverse and you have a modern car and pick up transmission. High horse power cars could benefit from twin counter shafts but they are a bit heavy.
Cool.. Hope there's no Home work.. Lol.
Does fuller still make unsynchronised manual transmissions?
Yes
@@Sasnak Alright, honestly Didn't expect that answer but that's great to hear, out here every manual transmission is synchronized, its great to see that trucks in the US are still more old-school with those kind of things than out here, greetings from the Netherlands, stay safe and have a great day!
I didn't get it with power take off gear 8:20
Hi Stan, would you be interested in making a video talking through every that happens to, and everything the 18 wheeler does in "Live Free or Die Hard"
I think it would be fun to watch a real world breakdown from a real world trucker, especially if you're having fun with your commentary. If you find you enjoy making the content, there a ton of movies you could go through.
Best
Tom
Wrong! Fourth gear is Direct…
Lost me at shaft.
You. Must. Be. Running. Out. Of. Video s. TO. Make. Stan.
