  • Hi all, I found this Fisher and Paykel Clothes dryer on the side of the road and decided to make a video showing how I repaired it. I replaced the motor star capacitor to get it going and then proceeded to fix the rest of its unsightly issues. Enjoy

Lmao I used to do the quick spin and slam door shut on my old zanussi/electrolux tumble dryer to get it going, worked like that for about 2 years till one day it just went bang 💥 don’t know what did ? But it never worked again 😂

People think I'm a magician when I do that to their dryer that they thought was dead 😅

@@DIYDumpRat I seen my sister do it to hers and I was like hmmm I wonder if that will work on mine?
It did for ages lol but my sisters was 14 years old and had a few issues that eventually killed it way before mine 😂
I got heat pump Miele that I bought for £25.00p got a new refrigerant sensor and the heat sensor popped straight after within hours 🙄
Got that replaced it’s worked fine ever since.
And got a 2in1 LG 10kg washer/dryer combo now so got two dryers now technically 😂 so will never be without one ever again unless I am very unlucky…

@@colinsace1 Wow well done mate 👍yeah I found a massive LG 2in1 at the tip as well. I love it. It's a 15kg washer and 7kg dryer. Way too big for just one person but I love it 😁 Rarely ever use the dryer though. Every now and then to keep it working.

I did exactly the same steps as you did .Changed the old Capacitor with new one .Connected clips properly .She powers up .press power ,then start button . Wants to start .Then starts beeping

Sounds like your door kill switch isn't engaging properly when the door is closed. Try pushing the top of the door in while at the same time pressing start.

This is exactly my dryer which I suspect the motor needs to be replaced.. the motor rotates a couple of minutes but when the motor heats up it suddenly just stops spinning even without the belt and drum installed

@@earlskie2u yep sounds like the motor. Or even possibly the motor start capacitor.

How do you get in to put a new exhaust sensor and door switch? Do you need to remove the drum?

Very good, I will do this. Two questions:
    1. How does pushing the clothes to the back help it start up?
    2. What is the purpose of the vent deflector? The guy who installed mine 15 years ago didn't fit it, but luckily I still have it. I'm planning to fit it vertically, as you started to do. It looks like it will catch a lot of the lint flying out, instead of spraying the wall behind with it. Probably need cleaning out at some stage too?

In the older F&P dryers, the capacitor is actually held in place the other way in the other side of the framing for the motor, I know this as almost 3 months ago now I worked on an ED56NZ with the blueish sort of panel made in January 2004. Have you ever thought about doing a video on that by any chance on how to replace the capacitor on the earlier F&P Dryers?

No mate, I've never seen an ED56 like that sorry. And I've replaced countless Caps in the blue ED56's as well. Are you the original owner of the machine?
Regardless, I won't be doing too many repair related videos for a while. Since my house fire I'm solely focused on rebuilding my home. Lots of cleaning and rebuilding vids coming out though 👍

@@DIYDumpRat No I’m not the original owner of that machine I was fixing it for a customer, hope all is well with you after your house caught fire as well.

Hi what would be the likely cause of the machine randomly stopping having to restart often.

    • @DIYDumpRat
      @DIYDumpRat  5 месяцев назад +1

Not sure mate, but I'd take a look at the door sensor switch first up. The door might be slightly warped due to the constant heat and the little dicky bit (top of door) that polks in and presses the switch to tell the machine the door is closed may not be constantly making contact. Just bend it back and see how you go.
I think I explain it in this video.
