Facts! Definitely better brands than the list in the video.
Pure blue japan the flat head
Right, he didn't actually buy the band of jeans
So G-Star is bad?
Эти бренды не нужны всем. Они в узкой нише. Не все хотят холст и мешковину цвета индиго .
I wouldn’t go as far as saying benzak should be in here but I will say I am lately recommending EVERYBODY to try on a pair, specially for new people into denim, the fits are absolutely fantastic!
Canadian denimhead here: Not sure when Edwin introduced stone-washing but I have to shout out GWG (a Canadian workwear company that became a Levi's subsidiary in the 70's) for developing stone-washing in the mid 50s! They were also the first to pre-wash their Unsanforized denim with their Scrubbies line, I believe.
Nudies introduced me to denim and they didn't end up in my top ten but always will be in my heart...: Iron Heart, Grivec Bros, Atelier LaDurance, N&F, Blue Blood, Momotaro, PBJ, Tanuki, Benzak and as a runner up Pike Brothers.
This was a fun one to watch buddy! I’m still eager to try a pair of visvim jeans, just to try haha
I found your channel last week and I really enjoy your videos! Would be interesting to hear your list :)
The Willy Wonka of the denim world. Lol. Love that comment.
There are a lot of manufacturers to list- too many I reckon. Leaving out brands like Studio de Artisan, Tanuki, Japan blue, etc., is perhaps understandable but personally they are three of my favourite brands with the fox fibre coyotes and redcasts being my go to jeans at the moment. It's great to watch these videos but how great is the experience of making a few bloopers and then finding those ones that blow your mind. For me, this is a great hobby. By the way dude, what's that wee funny hat you wear called cos it's really grown on me? Regards, Jason.
Getting my way back into denim again and seek to get a new pair this fall.
Agree with the several comments about avoiding Chinese made jeans. Hard not to buy Chinese in many product categories but fortunately many alternatives for jeans.
I just got the Edwin 47 because, obviously 47, but also going from 501s to Selvedge for the first time I wanted to not spend a fortune and with money off the were £110! They fit beautifully and do the classic thing that I prefer.
I really want to get into naked and famous and benzak but they’re hard to get in my size in Australia (I’m short and big boned). Nudie is my favourite because my size is readily available here , its sanforized and free repairs. Definitely an upgrade from my regular Levi’s and Lee’s.
have had many different denims and most on this list, not a fan of raw denim myself so maybe not a true denim fan but dior is hands down my all time favorite and go to
Iron Heart, Samurai Jeans, Lee 101z, Japan Blue, Strike Gold, 3sixteen, Indigofera, UES, Sugar cane. Momotora.
Evisu makes sense for the sake of old times. Nudie is to me the protoype of a very unpleasant denim (carton boxes when it comes to selvedge) with a too high price tag. 300€ for a selvedge denim from Nudie compared to Iron Heart... Nudie doesn´t hold a chance for me.
I might be too much of a denim head but that list of 18 has a vast majority of stuff I truly dislike.
Ues is a good shout. Don’t hear much about them these days sadly.
Definitely enjoyed this once you got to Balmain, Amiri, and Dior comments 🤣
100 percent agree with you on APC. It was my first pair of raw denim I was introduced to and I felt like they were so great looking but rather uncomfortable. And like you stated after 2015 and Kanye this is definitely a brand to avoid. I recently examined a pair in Nordstrom and laughed to myself as they have really gone downhill. Thanks again for another great video.
It’s really a shame as the brand does some good things aesthetically. But yeah. The vibe is totally dead for me.
This vid made me laugh a lot! haha Nice one, pal!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Question not really related to this video ... but! I bought a black power stretch denim from naked and famous. Do you still do a first soak on raw black denim ?
I do it when it's raw indigo denim, but black I don't know. They don't feel brittle/cardboard-ish as they have some stretch in them. They won't bleed either.
Hope you see this, thanks for all your content!
Hi, it was nice to have your views on different denim brands. However, what do you think of DIESEL and G-STAR RAW Jeans? Thank you
My top 10 in no particular order:
TBC
Nudies
HeadLight
LVC
BlackHorseLane
N&F
Wrangler (vintage + broken twill)
Lee (vintage + left hand twill)
Viapiana
Mr. Freedom
TBC IS TCB actually? Which cut ? I recomended the 195oies in raw.
The black version of those undercover 85’s are my denim grails. Everyone has their own taste but personally I love Decarnin era Balmain and same with Hedi era Dior, both have great fits in different ways. takahiro miyashita started number nine and the soloist after he left (N)n
Yeah I actually find it so super interesting that folk have such different associations with the brands. I think it’s due to the third or fourth tier associations people have. Like the fits and styles filtering down through a few different iterations before I became aware of them means a totally different association for you as it might for me.
I own 2 pairs of RRL! GREAT jeans!
I am not a denim head. But! Edwin is a case study: their marketing in NA and EU make me think that there is a tonne of JPN denim that isn’t as widely known here as Oni, Samurai, Studio, etc. Also, makers using USA grown and woven denim should be discussed. Vidalia Mills. What else?
I love strike gold as well. I have 2 pairs of the shower slubs and they are well built imo. My studio d'artisan 1677 ltd edit. are one of my favorites as well.
I would love to hear your opinion/see a review about D'LOOP Jeans.
love indigo of era jeans and beams plus, never failed on me
Don’t know indigo of era. But beams is a good shout.
Raleigh Denim Workshop, BraveStar, Williamsburg Garment Company, Best Made Co, 3sixteen, Tellason, Rogue Territory, Railcar, Roy || Tender Co, Freenote Cloth, Leftfield NYC
I forgot to mention, I pussed out and got a pair of 511's on sale. They fit snug and are at my tipping point 34" waist. Are these going to shrink a lot. 36's tend to be loose, and need a belt. Hell I'm wearing a belt with 34 waist denizens, yet they have an elastic kind of waist like the 511's.
RRL largely being Made in China kinda ruins the brand for me. I imagine them charging premium prices you'd see for Japanese-made or American-made clothing but pocketing that upcharge due to not having to worry about paying decent wages. I'm probably ignorant to something but and haven't heard anything to change my mind yet...
Visvim produces in China as well.
I own 4 pair of RRL jeans all were made in the USA
I enjoyed the video! I hit the like button! I scrolled through a bit of the comments and realized I'm one of the women here scrolling through the comments lol... oh well, the more the merrier, right? 🙂👍
Absolutely 😊😊😊
I’m too confused. Any rec for selvedge jeans that are around $100 AND that fit like regular 501’s or 505’s??
LVC/Levis
APC
Sugar Cane
TCB
Warehouse
Those are probably the only ones I would be interested in. Only own apc, lvc and sugar cane though
Long story short drive 2 hours to the nearest denim store, thought I paid for a pair of Kato jeans when I got home I had a pair of selvedge denim by a company called people 4 peace and I must say the jeans have great detail and comfortable I’d buy another!
Just my personal list, I like those that distance a bit from the classic denim yet still heritage some of the spirit: Oni, warehouse, Benzak (really subtle and modern construction), Tender, indigofera, N&F, Momotaro, Kuro, 3sixteen, Redcloud (I do believe there is a huge misconception of made in china, as most people outside don’t know that many Japanese brands have theit products mainly finished in China.)
Good list! And good take on the made in China.
Nothing wrong with China made...i have the Bronson 807 xx (507) jacket, the best type 2 that ive owned since the late 90ies with LVC and Levis japan jackets. Denim and fit is incredible, not to mention the price
I’m confused what did apc do?
My favorite denim brands are Soso brothers, Mister Freedom, and Gustin.
Someone lmk what he’s referring to ab apc back in 2015
8:13 Wo hast du das Foto ganz links her?
Das sieht richtig geil aus mit dem Vietnam Jungle Boots zusammen
From the Kapital lookbook shoot for that collection. I think it was 2019 summer.
@@CeeAreDee Danke,
ich hab's gefunden bei 2020
Ok denim biker jeans. Actually denim has more “drag” protection than leather, quite a lot more actually. I ride in denim now, and my favourites are intertwined with Kevlar fibres. Yes they have knee and hip pad protection built into them as well.
I had a number of fake Evisu jeans back in middle school. Bought them at the Farmer’s Market. 😁
I even remember finding fakes with the arcs painted over the Levi arcs 😂
Now that I have the money for the real ones their denim jackets from the Hong Kong branch have a lot of attention to detail. The selvedge ID, the sartorial fits, the various denim mills they get their stuff from. I have their selvedge kimono tops and denim shirt jackets. There’s a lot going on. It’s a star that doesn’t get to shine as much anymore
when I think Visvim, i think moccasins. Lol not bad. A.P.C. & Nudie are entry level staples. I loathe Amiri's bc I feel Balmain did that already. & they give me tophop vibes.
My problem with this list is it’s too much stuff people know rather than need to know. Give me the flat head for fades. Iron heart for pure construction (bit of a Toyota though ) samurai for bling and custom features and pjb or the strike gold for fabric. Studio d artisan for heritage. Tcb or SOC if you want a more retro fit and look.
Mid tier I’m gonna say naked and famous. It’s got great fade potential and I really like the fits but of course that’s subjective.
Truth is you don’t need more than Levi’s or lee denim.
Gun to my head. The Flat head.
Desert island. Has to be iron heart
I second. I have practically lived in my Flat Head 8002 Heavyweight 18oz - Slim Tapered - which are unsanforized - since Covid started (yes- since March 2020). Have washed them twice and the fades are incredible.
I have three other pairs of denim, and two of them are Iron Hearts. I love the heavyweights.
I have a pair of Kapital raw denim pretty solid
Nice jeans, right!
my top 10 in no specific order:
Pure Blue Japan (no way you can have a list of top denim brands without them)
ONI (if I had to pick one it would probably be them)
Tanuki
Samurai
orSlow
Studio d'Artisan
Visvim (not really because of their raw denim but more because of their washes and distressing)
IMjiT (wonderful denim out of italy)
3sixteen
Momotaro
and there are some many others
Totally with you all aside from Visvim. I love the brand but was never impressed by their denim.
i got a VisVim raw denim jean for less than 300$…. albeit I was at a Visvim store in Hiroshima, Japan. I thought it was expensive at that time, but I didn’t know how much jeans can cost, and I never heard of the brand. I just walked in the store randomly, and said i wanted a made in japan jean.
they fade very well. comfortable. but not the absolute best quality. I saw loose threads, and was not happy with that. they fray pretty easy at the bottom, with minimal use.
Top 10 no particular order:
[Americana trinity and Osaka 5 not included]
Viapiana
BDD
Ande Whall (Defunct)
Tender co.
Denham
Denim.lab
Blue Blanket
Old Blue co.
Momotaro
Samurai
Ande Whall. I wonder what that dudes doing now.
Takahiro Miyashita is actually one of the most fascinating fashion designers out there, I strongly recommend you check it out! Forget Grailed and their hypebeast babbling and move past those weird jeans! (Ditto for Undercover, but I assume you already know a thing or two about it from your comment in the video)
You know what a good brand of denim jeans is? Wrangler. I have pairs of wranglers that I have worn for almost a decade + to work in, play, or even doing yard work. Durable while not costing me an arm and a leg.
Guess they are a very different brand I. The USA cause I know a lot of folk that love them. Over in the EU they are made of paper. It’s a shame.
In no particular order:
LVC
Big John
Sugar Cane
Warehouse
Full Count
The Flat Head
Samurai
Iron Heart
TCB
One Piece of Rock
Spot on
Ksubi (subi silent K) it’s an Australian brand from Sydney
Nice, thanks mate.
You should see that the SOSO brothers have a 33 oz. Deniem as well!
Those assholes still haven’t supplied my 21 oz three years on from a Kickstarter !
Don’t give them any money .
Yes, I currently have 3 pairs of the 33s and waiting for my jacket.
@@splashpit I was thinking of buying a pair of Jean's from them are they reliable
@@strollbaby that's awesome have do they feel every review I've seen they always say it feels like firehoses around their legs
@@finchqwerty3284 you can rely on them to take your money then tell you to stick it !
I’d be down to buy some evisu jeans, but you only get jeans made in China unless you pay $600+ through their international website.
Their Chinese jeans seem to be good quality, but if I’m buying evisu then I want jeans made in Japan.
Yeah, they are tricky to get hold of. I only got mine cause I was in Japan.
Black bear brand, freenote cloth, brave star, rrl, red clouds collective, sugar cane, iron heart
Red cloud collective
Love the shirt Dee, what is it?
3sixteen, I can't quite remember when it was from. 2016 maybe. It is one of my favorites.
@@CeeAreDee Thanks! Yeah looks so good
Indigofera is all I need…..
Visvim retail is ridiculous but second hand is comparable if not less than the other brands listed here. I picked up the $1200 101 jacket he showed in the video for $225 and it was only released in 2017 so not that old. Brand is fantastic if you can find the steals!
No particular order. Brave Star, Iron Heart, Warehouse, Naked and Famous, Nudie, 3Sixteen, Railcar, Benzak, LVC, Momotaro. I chose them because they seem to be doing more to attract new people into the denim world.
I have some brave star herringbone that are nicely built and good value for the money.
Levi's, LC King, Brave Star, Sugar Cane, MF, Oni, and Carhartt. That's what I look for at least 😭, maybe Lee on occasion but they're hard to find.
Let’s ask the question differently - is it a meaningful list if there’s no explanation as to why it is only 18?
Guess the Grailed writer was paid by the article and not the word 😂
Acne is great fit and material price justified
Honestly as a list of denim brands "every man" should know. I don't think most of these fit that. These are very much denim brands "denim heads" or "fashion focused men" should know and I think personally I'd have split the list into a few categories. "everyday denim workwear" no muss no fuss nothing over $200 this is where I'd put Levi's, Dickies, Wrangler, and maybe some of the more high end work wear. Weird Denim Fashion brands should get it's own list. Denim Head brands should also get their own list. Because I think those are maybe lists where everyone who fits that category might be interested in what's on there. If you show a normal man at least half the stuff on this list they're going to look at you like you have at least one screw loose.
Don’t have much choice in my country to try it out. I only get pure blue Japan, Japan blue, momotaro, nudie and the selection isn’t that great.
Went with a pair of made in Japan Levi’s Premium.
What's the A.P.C. controversy? I've never even heard of the company but I always want to know the drama
The dude was outed using the “n” word free and easy. When called out on it, he said it was ok cause Kanye gave him a pass.
@@CeeAreDeeWow sounds like a cool guy, I’m behind APC now. Love people not bowing down to the status quo. Its just a word, and I say this as a Native American man, get over it

When are we getting the N&F video?
Offt, I have a bit of a backlog at the moment... ASAP. I am looking forward to that one. It should stir up some shit 😂
my top:
Hysteric Glamour
Agave
Neuw
Baldwin
Acne
Nudie
J. Lindeberg
Diesel
virtually anything made in Japan (Iron Heart, Momotaro, the like)
Dang, I totally forgot J Lindeberg makes raw denim!!! My very first pair of Raws were from an uninformed purchase in 2006. I bought JLs from the now-closed NYC Soho store they had on Spring Street. I had no idea why the legs started twisting after a couple of washes and dry cycles. I actually thought it was a defect, but I loved the fades and look of the jeans so I kept them for a few years. Then after many years of experimenting with brands like G-Star Raw, Diesel, Genetic Denim, I eventually found my way to back to Raw. I started looking into selvedge, and why those JLs twisted up, and discovered this community and obsession. Thanks for jostling that memory!
RRL really is the top tier. the concept of their east/west denim was amazing
not enough self edge nerdery on this list and too much high fashion
Yeah. Felt the same.
Could care what anyone else says or what anyone thinks. Wrangler ® for me. Large/Huge variety of denim and colors; fairly inexpensive; hold up and I've got a vast variety to match every shirt I own. So Yeah.
The take about dior jeans was really really bad. During Hedi Slimanes helm at dior the jeans had a cult following especially on Sufu and other forums and Hedi birthed the whole stacked look with his 92cm inseam pants
Didn't Slimanes leave in 2005 or there abouts? That's a long time to rest on your laurels. So as I said, afterthought.
@@CeeAreDee It’s the same with helmut lang or undercover innit? both haven’t had any notable denim since 2005. Nevertheless in the early 2000s dior jeans weren’t an afterthought a fashion staple and a game changer worn by countless people from karl Lagergeld to Orlando bloom to 20 something fashion nerds on the internet.
Facts
TCB, UES, Kapital, Evisu, ROY
So G-Star is not good?
momotauro and TCB brand is the only brands i buy. japenese respect the history
Two amazing brands for sure. But I think there are others out that that also respect the quality.
from designer i like, Maison Margiela, pepe jeans, RL, diesel and also some versace have nice designs
I wear Sage from Indonesia.
I heard good things.
From Walmart wrangler denim 14oz is just 21usd. No need to pay more.
I actually quite like the vintage wranglers out there. I bought a ranch style jacket made in the 70s and I like it more than some of the expensive, raw denim jackets I've purchased
I really only buy orslow and Visvim jeans
Great choice. Orslows are incredible.
RRL 💯 🔥
yap ;)
Safety razor 2-300 euro, shaving brush 100 euros, soap 40 euros, fragrance 50-a lot of euros. Great lifetime presents you use every day and think of your loved ones.
Left field atlas cut are the only jeans in the denim world that fit me right. Sadly I don’t know any others that fit me right. Bravestar fits me horribly.
Ah yeah. I remember when Christian was developing that cut. It was am when CrossFit hit hard and we were all getting massive thighs
1. Momotaro
2. Japan blue
3. Lvc
4. Studio d'artisan
5. Naked and famous
6. Pure blue Japan
7. Ecko

John Mayer is a great guitar player and is spending less money in cloathing playing with the Dead and Company i think he learn something of course is not going to buy Unbranded or Brave Star.
I'd love to see him in a pair of Brave Star 😂
@@CeeAreDee i think in 2016 and 2017 he was with raw denim in stage touring with the Dead and company and my God they are a monster band and is PSR guitars are wonderfull and jeans also.
What happened with APC in 2015???

He had a massive fuck up at a show. www.theguardian.com/fashion/2015/feb/10/apc-founder-jean-touitou-fashion-designer-french
@@CeeAreDee I see. Thank you for the article.

I also want to know what happened in 2015!
www.theguardian.com/fashion/2015/feb/10/apc-founder-jean-touitou-fashion-designer-french
I was interested too so I looked in to it. Just briefly admittedly. Apparently the founder of APC, while answering a reporters question, partially quoted the title of a Kayne West and Jay Z song. The title of the song contains the N word. The one with the "a" not the "er". Being that he is not a person of color this obviously became an issue. He had a somewhat interesting excuse but that's a topic for another time. I can say for me personally, what he said would not stop me from buying his clothes. And although I'm of mixed racial decent I don't consider myself a POC. So take my opinion for what it's worth.

@@CeeAreDee i meant to type boost, for the algorith
So called "denim heads"
What is the fascination with paying over $100 for jeans? They don't feel or look high quality. Most of what makes it "high" quality is what you can't see on the outside.
You mean you should pay less than $100 for a quality pair of jeans? In my experience, quality costs more than $100.
@@CeeAreDee i have had plenty of jeans well under $100 and over $100. Other than what another cannot see I dont feel a difference. I am not a denim "expert". I have not had jeans that rip from the seam. I do not know what the "quality" is. Denim is denim to me.
My favorite is True Religion.
That’s a old school call.
Grailed is constantly pushing pretentious brands such as Supreme and cultural appropriating brands like Visvim into my search results even though I am not searching for them.
I wouldn't consider visvim to be culturally appropriating especially considering that Japanese americana has been going on for 60 years at this point
