    The benefit of the episodic format was how the individual characters were allowed to shine at various times. I feel as if we were able to grow closer to each of the characters better.

      not to mention the depth and detail of the story being told, nowadays it's been shortened and depth is less likely to be a thing.
      they are almost better off creating a full blown open world video game that can always be added onto to continue the story being told.
      of course stargate seems to always have their good video game ideas get shut down or canceled.
      and i have zero interest in their table top game, so it's not like i'm going to get the game just for the sake of it being related to stargate.

      i like this idea, and the stargate universe is big enough to add a shit load of content so it doesn't feel as empty and random as no mans sky does.
      have you seen the game star citizen? that game is not finished and will likely never be finished because their scope is beyond anything any game has ever done and they keep adding to it, and there is more than enough people backing it that it just keeps getting flooded with money, i think people want it to come out so badly that they just keep funding it with lots of money.
      to some people it's a scam, but to the people who play it are backing it are loving it and sure they spend a bunch of money on it, but this is what they want in a game and are willing to keep funding it.
      but i think the devs should release it as is and then continue to add to it as time goes on because people won't be willing to do this forever, however i will admit people have been backing this project of a game since 2012 i think... i'm not 100% sure, but it's been in development far longer than any AAA game that i know of.
      but the scope of the game is insanely good, you would think they would be done by now but nope, they keep expanding on the game to the point were it seems endless.
      but as i said before, they can only get away with this for so long.

    I hope we will get more spinoffs if the first season of the fouth series is going to be successfull. Star Trek managed to cover most of the year with weekly new content so Stargate should do the same. The concept of different gate systems can create any settings and storyteling genre they want.

    I don't know what it is about Mallozzi but I always enjoy his takes on the shows' productions (for any of them). He always sounds very concluded and accomplished when looking back at the production process, which creates a positive tone for the experience. Of course it had the up's and down's but he doesn't get stuck with those details. I guess that's all part of being a seasoned expert!

      they are better off creating an open world video game with the lore of this series if they can't have the extended episodic seasons of the past than this 10 episode format per season, because at least with a game, they can always add in more and new content and milk the players endlessly.
      just look at bethesda with their skyrim game, they created their game to the point where it never ends so long as they keep adding content.
      but at the same time, they end up creating really simple crap for people to spend money on to continue existing within the world they created as it's more profitable to do this than actually create content that's worth it for the player.

    The quality between a 10 show season and a 20 season writing wise is different. The 10 show ones tend to dump all their budget in the special effects and not so much in the writing. Looking right at Stranger Things and New Trek. Shows like the Ranch still exist on streaming and they had 20 episode seasons. The writing on the Ranch was good, which it had to be since it wasn't reliant on special effects.

      @@5226-p1e you can even look at Disenchantment. It has the same problem of barely being able to develop a story within 10 episodes. Hell this recent season had to spend 3 of its episodes wrapping up cliff hangers from the previous 10 episodes. 20-25 episodes sounds like a lot, but it allows you to have story arcs that build on past episodes. Not to mention releasing them weekly also give you the ability to sit with them and not go without new episodes for that long. I personally don’t watch that many of the Netflix series because the 10 episode ones always come off as half baked.

  • @Kuwaiden

    As much as I enjoy serialized episodes, I do miss the days of the episodic TV show. I'm sure Netflix has figure how to not make 12 hour movies (see Netflix Marvel shows), that avenue to explore character and character relationships in a big cast really is lost without the freedom of episodic TV.

    • @5226-p1e
      @5226-p1e 2 года назад

      100% agree! you can't make in depth detailed stories without an ever so detailed expansion of episodes, this is why movies that have a continuing story are popular.
      but idk, i guess it also depends on the budget that's being used.
      i personally like the kinds of stories with the longer format as they can explore these things in much larger scope of detail and with the freedom to expand that detail into larger directions and depth.

      i like this, i also like the idea that there are more stargates like the second version gate within other galaxies outside the milky way, i mean this style of gate was within the asgard solar system so it's only reasonable that they also seeded these gates like they did with the seed ships in SGU and possibly met the furling's where they established a friendship at some point.

    Hello @Gateworld you have a very nice and vast channel over here and till i found you i thought the Stargate fandom has shut since 2015 . In most of the series it s all about science trumps magic or the unnatural . It felt a bit bummer to me the idea that galaxies can be life sustained by ancient devices like the one in Dakara and the Death of the Ori leads me to believe that there is no one God or authority higher than American soldiers who are eager to put the US flag sticker wherever they go . However the show tries to hide that spirits , ghosts assisted them many times and Daniel was responsible for letting the Ori in the galaxy in the first place so NO , the ancients ow humans nothing except a beating. What exactly happened to Jack s son duplicate ? Very early on , Jack shut down until an alien entity posed as O neill s son and had to deal with that grief and make a means to his ex wife . What exactly has happened to the entity ? What was the entity ?

      the unfortunate thing is it wasn't their call to make this choice, which is why it ended so quickly, there is only so much depth a show could possibly cover with this severely shortened season format.
      the whole reason why this is happening to most new shows nowadays is due to shows migrating to the internet instead of through cable tv and the ads paying for it.
      nowadays depending on where you go, you will get a selection of shows on a service you choose and pay for that unfortunately has turned into a lot of potential good shows not being chosen and end up within their own streaming service instead of a central hub where everything is seen and can be discovered by the masses and the show is severely shortened due to this factor.
      at one point it was just netflix, then it started branching to all kinds of streaming services directions, the funny thing is youtube started to try to become the central base for this idea with their youtube red format, but not every show wanted to jump in this format so they started creating their own streaming platforms which makes it even harder for people to have access to the content and some of the other stuff they offer is of no interest to the person to make that choice worth while.
      like outside of starwars i don't have any desirer to get a Disney subscription.
      plus i also don't like Disney as a company as they have been known for some really fucked up shit, so i just won't ever support them.
      eventually i think it will come to a bridge moment where all these services will see that it's better to have their content in one central location than their own, because the potential pool of viewers is far larger outside their format, they will just have to bite the bullet in what their potential profit will end up being to do this as it's become too expensive for everyone to pay for all these services individually like this.
      in the end it's just not worth it for the viewer to be paying for all these individual formats as it's not viable for all involved.

    Honestly I feel the story of shorter shows 8 to 12 are inferior because it's one story and if it doesn't land then you waste a hole season, if you have a 20 episode serialized series and in the end you only like 10 episodes you got 10 great stories compared to one 8 to 10 hour story that might not be great

    • @5226-p1e
      @5226-p1e 2 года назад +1

      i agree, you can't get much depth out of a 10 episode format over a full season format. the show will likely be very short lived and end up ending within a few seasons because the focus will be on the action above all the story elements.
      i guess they might be able to focus on the stories they have wanted to focus on and go straight to the heavens with it.

  • @Christianos_Theophile

    The modern 10 episode formula only benefits lazy writers. It’s one of the reasons that older series’ are so much better by comparison. Having 20-24 episodes per season allows you to do the kind of character building and world building and lore building that you just don’t see anymore - these are the things that make a tv series into a classic franchise that can last and still be popular and gain new fans decades after it ends. No one will remember today’s tv shows in the future. Generations of kids who haven’t been born yet won’t be discovering them on streaming platforms. There won’t be any conventions every year for any of them. They’re cinematic fast food meant to be consumed and forgotten. There will never be another SG-1. The people in charge don’t love the things they create anymore, it’s just a product meant to generate a quick buck.

    • @ZontarDow
      @ZontarDow 5 месяцев назад

      Indeed, the 20-26 episode season allowed the characters and settings to breath in a way that allowed them to be explored in far more depth then 8-12 episode seasons, and the duds didn't detract nearly as much from the wider season since "well next week's will be better" is a lot easier to deal with when there's two dozen next week's rather then half that many. And that's before getting into the issue that for whatever reason those 20-26 episodes where easily able to be done annually while those dozen ones could have years between them.
