I love Joe, but I'm even more happy for Katya. Last year she made stars out of herself and Ed Balls and this year she became a megastar with Joe. A perfect end to an incredible series.
ScarecrowHuggins I think Katya and Oti are GENIUS choreographers. Katya was absolutely FANTASTIC last year so I am glad she had a more competent dance partner this year this is as important to the professional to win and she so deserved it.

Joe progressed the furthest and for that reason alone deserves the title. And what can we say about Katya for her brilliant teaching and superb choreography? A perfect partnership.
I disagree Gemma progressed the furthest. Joe was pretty decent from week one, Gemma and Mollie were night and day differences from the beginning of the competition to the end. Debbie's latin also improved greatly.
I disagree I think in a dancing competition the best dancer should win. They all deserved to be in the final. However I think Gemma was by far the biggest improved by the end. And I don't think Alexandra should have been penalised for being amazing. It's just something about this young woman that makes her a winner. She won X factor beating some 200,000 entries, winner of who dares wins, celebrity bake off winner. And she became the best dancer BECAUSE she improved week on week. However Joe was a perfect gentleman and lovely dancer. Happy for him

I think the fact that he was never in the bottom says it all. The public liked him, even when he had low weeks. There was no sob story, no dramatics from him, he may have had a little dance experience (no musical he's been in is dance heavy) but he really was learning as he went. He kept his head down and kept working and even when he won you never got the the feeling he expected it or was desperate to win, which I don;t think can be said for everyone. Couple that with the fact Katya is a brave and talented choreographer and one of the most likeable pros and it was just a great combination. I also think of all of them, he's the one who will put winning this to best use. You can argue they all deserved it for different reasons, and you can be the best dancer, but if people don't gel with a personality, it isnt going to happen. Personally I'm thrilled they won, I had them pegged from the start as finalists, he's a good ambassador for the show going forward

BEST SERIES for me, ever. They all deserved to win for different reasons. Personally I would have loved Alexandra to win for her sheer talent and class she brought to it!
R M I agree. Best series I've seen. Public voting was pretty much on point, the couples in the final were spot on with the exception of Aston!... don't get me started on that one
Debbie and Alexandra both have previous dance experience ,even those both were brilliant,Joe started from scratch well deserved winner.
Ballroom and Latin is a different technique, timing, posture, etc to any other type of dance. So it doesn't matter if they did or not.
Jakey B ballroom dancing is completely different. Joe is a very experienced actor with many years of experience and telling the story is just as important so he had his advantage too. Plus you need a variety to make it interesting. I would have turned over weeks ago if it wasn't a realy exciting competition. The bar was high and you can thank ALLof them for that
They still had an unfair advantage, as they may had done ballroom in their previous job. I felt like Alexandra was expecting to win, as she thought every adored her, same with Debbie. Joe definitely deserved that trophy.

So, so awesome. Male celebrities have to lead some dances and the female professional has to give them that confidence and trust whereas female celebrities can always have the male professional lead, giving them that little bit of extra assurance. Joe's been a joy to watch and Katya's witty, creative, complicated, risky choreography has been tremendous.

You know what? This is such a lovely comments section. I was truly expecting to go on here and find loads of angry comments on how Joe was not the deserved winner, but all I found was love. I must admit, I was annoyed myself that he won, and came here to find people who felt the same. But actually, all those who agree with me are being respectful instead of hateful. What a wonderful audience Strictly has! I feel so heart-warmed after reading these comments. Well done Joe! :D
Elizabeth Brown hi Elizabeth. I agree with you. You get the odd Nasty comments. I must admit I was pretty angry at the press and fellow sheep who painted Alexandra and Debbie as doing something wrong when clearly they would NEVER have been signed if the producers thought there was anything untoward. However when Strictly audiences saw the unfairness of this they came to Alexandra's aid in particular in their hundreds. I have never seen anything like it. I am so impressed with the Strictly audience who are really nice people and have been generous by and large to all deserving finalists. All 4 have different degrees of dance experience but none in ballroom which is very different. That's the point. I am over the moon more for Katya. All 4 of these finalists will be offered work which has begun with the Strictly Tour. They must all be exhausted. I have been thoroughly entertained by the whole show and equally warmed by the audience. Even the ones who pulled me up for my own comments I thoroughly respect

I have to say I am quite surprised he won! But like I say, the final is normally won by the one with the combination of being a decent dancer and being very popular with the public (he was never in the bottom two). Joe has come SUCH a long way and he's definitely much better quality a dancer than Darren Gough or Chris Hollins. I am more happy that Katya won, and it's only her second year! Whoo Hoo!!!
I think he's the perfect winner - maybe Debbie and Alexandra were better technical dancers (don't take away from Joe how amazing he was though) but they had less personality throughout the series, have had previous dance experience and I didn't see as much true connection with them and their respective partners. Also I think what I will remember this year for is Katya's outstanding choreography.. it's impossible not to love her! What a series and what a zero-to-hero story in the winning couple!
It's such a pity, Alexandra and Debbie are definitely better dancers than Joe. But Joe has pulled it out of the bag in the final. He reminded me of Tom Chambers when he won, despite not being the best dancer compared with Lisa and Rachel. But Tom Chambers returned for his Christmas Special years later after a successful career in the West End (Strictly gave him the needed exposure after his Holby stint), and Tom did an amazing perfect Charleston with Oti. Joe was an ex-Holby actor dreaming of returning to the musical theatre, and whether he won or not it's been a 3-month audition for the would-be casting directors out there, and I think he'll do really well and just keeps improving and improving long after this final like Tom Chambers...
I think also the choreography Katya gave him, as well as his wonderful storytelling definitely made him shine. For me, lyric are the most important part to a song like the storytelling is of a dance and is far as I'm concerned, he was the only one there who could tell a great story through dance alone. In that way, he reminds be of Mark Benton lmao, but obviously with much better ability. Having said that, they were all deserved winners but I voted for him and I'm SO glad he won!!!
I am happy for Katya too- she is an amazing choreographer and is one the main pros who deserved to lift the glitterball this year!

Pleased for Joe and Katya.Katya proved what an outstanding coach/trainer/mentor she was last year with Ed Balls. And with all due respect to Ed, she had real potential to work with here. Their routines were never dull and she never played safe.It was a very good final. All the couples brought their A game and brought to an end another brilliantly produced series.Joe should be proud of himself. He always gave a performance and also by the end he was mastering the technique. I hate to use the "j" word,but seriously what a journey for him.

Katya deserved this purely coz of her amazing choreograph on all her dances but also coz she really did teach joe how to dance and for him to get to the level hes at in so many months is such an achievement on her part. Love joe but she really did deserve this! My new favourite pro x

If Alexandra has won, it would have been like Michael Schumacher winning every round of race. Boring. It was right that the one who won was the one who fought hardest. Jo was not a natural dancer, deffiniately wasn't a trained dancer unlike Alexandra or Debbie, and so he had to put even more determination to do this. He never gave up. I am so proud of him and I really wanted to see Katya's face winning it, because just to see her joy it gave me so much joy that it really overflew. Now I am so happy, I am tired. I need to lie down. 😁
Judit Low I disagree completely with you. From the very beginning I picked Joe out as a natural and someone who clearly loved dancing prior to the show. He had a couple of very good early dances until that brilliant paso.. I guess Joe and Gemma probably improved the most though and the mix set the bar high and made everyone dance their socks off. My top 3 though I picked out from week 3 and they were all there. Joe, Alexandra and Debbie. Fair play to each and every one of them for keeping us entertained

I wish the media didn’t vilify Alexandra the way they did. They definitely changed the course of her journey on strictly. Having said that, pleased for Joe and very happy for Katya!

For me any of the 3 leading couples (Joe & Katya; Alexandra & Gorka, or Debbie & Giovanni) would have been worthy winners!
I think what ultimately swung Victory in favour of Joe & Katya was the fact that a) Joe's progression from week 1 had been astounding.
b) The themes of their 3 Final dances were so heartfelt; joyful; magical; inspirational, and above all...memorable!
In these respects alone their dances stood out from the competition!
c) Joe & Katya are just the cutest & most endearing couple (especially Katya who is always cheerful; effervescent & encouraging!)
d) Joe had the backing of The BBC - just like Tom Chandler; Chris Hollins, and Ore Oduba!
Given all the attention towards the other couples through the competition, it felt increasingly likely to me that a couple like Joe & Katya could sneak up on the rails somewhat unsuspectingly, and pip everybody to Victory!
It's always such a wonderful delight to see a relative outsider win in such a marvelous manner!

roblex63 ok so why don't they just say only those with no previous dancing experience are allowed to compete because that seems to be the only reason why alexandra (the actual winner as far as I'm concerned) didn't win. And that in itself isn't a good enough reason as to why either Debbie or Alexandra didn't win! Yes they had previous dance experience but ballroom and Latin dancing is a completely different discipline altogether. Just because someone is a good contemporary dancer or a good ballet dancer doesn't automatically mean they have an advantage. I think that is the biggest misconception and I am very much annoyed with the result
roblex63 Strictly is about what the producers decide it is about. I think the producers should explain at the start why they sign up different abilities. To stop the public demonising some dancers unfairly. It's so wrong. Joes story telling ability is just as important and he had this by the bucket load along with his natural dancing ability. It's a dance and story telling comp and for me the best at both this year is Alexandra with Joe a close second.
It's about learning to dance, end of story from week 1 to the final the audience want to see a person get better week by week there up's and downs , good dances bad dances , alexandra and to a lesser extent debbie were consistently very good because of there back grounds.. joe and gemma in the final was the audience seeing that... i bet if the final score was broken down the votes would show 1 joe...2 gemma.. 3 debbie.. 4 alexandra... nothing racist like some morons want to believe just the non dancers provided a better ( hate this term ) Journey.....
roblex63 it's about what the producers say it's about. Not what YOU think it's about. Otherwise there wouldn't be such a mixture in the show every single year. None of these dancers are breaking any rules. The producers and not the audience decided the rules. Also a real mixture of dancing ability got to the final voted by the Strictly audience. A FANTASTIC achievement for ALL of them. You do not speak for all of the audience. Personally if the producers are happy then so am I whether people have danced or not. Your guess about the final order is just that. Your guess. The evidence shows that second place would have been Alexandra with Gemma in 4th. Alexandra Had thousands upon thousands more RUclips views than Debbie and Gemma and overwhelming the comments were expressing love for her dancing. The you tube views have been matching the voting for weeks. Joe only went into the lead when Journalists decided they could get loads of attention by finding a whole list of nonsensical reasons for turning Alexandra into click bait and negative headlines. A cheap way to gather a lynch mob at Alexandra's and Debbie's expense. Journalists feed off lynch mobs who don't look too deeply at real evidence. They do it every year with a female because it works. Don't take my word for it look at all this information yourself. It's all there.

Any one of them deserved to win, but I think Joe swung it as he had no dance experience and progressed the most. Alexander and Debbie were both almost professional, but were so good, they couldn't progress any further. The best arnt necessarily always the winners
Chuffed that they won! I've been really annoyed with the scoring on strictly this year- Alex with all the 40s and waterworks every time she does well... her and Debbie seemed to be who the BBC wanted to win. Joe's LAST dance was his FIRST 40; and so big congratulations!! You've been so under marked but you won anyway! :) :) Rage against the machine springs to mind! :)
Anyone of these 4 couples could have won. Alexandra had the spirit of her mother throughout the whole series, Debbie had the spirit of her late husband Paul, Gemma had the spirit to do well in every dance she's done and Joe had the spirit of a real dance student that Katya needed. Congrats
