He should have gone further instead of giving them an option or ultimatum. What should have been done is have a bunch of deputies there with the Sheriff and arrest warrants in hand and have the board property detained and publically arrested on the spot , whilst the Sheriff makes an announcement of arrests and charges publicly whist having deputies escort them out the building all in handcuffs televised broadcasted to the public if they were really serious about the situation. Can't be doing things half assed to get point straight.

The school is working to recover the assignment booklet from the students. Gotta get rid of that evidence somehow.
That's how this agenda works: blitzkrieg it, wait for the legal challenges to catch up after the damage has been done, and destroy as much evidence as possible when the walls close in.
Why can't the parents, teachers and principals take control away by ignoring the school board, have their own meetings and decide for themselves what belongs in the classroom?

@@ericl2473 It's also misleading to assume that the parents carefully inspected all 600 or so writing prompts. So the BOE mislead the parents and students and ultimately they lost and had to remove the book. Adult themed writing shouldn't have to be illegal or of such a personal nature.

The prompts listed were basically “Write what you read on AO3.” People need a life. There are bigger fish to fry in this world.
But if you don't correct the foundation, how can you ever correct the people on top and hold them accountable... Simple logic used in many instances of life. Look at a business, if you lack a solid economic foundation and plan it will fail later on (The average fortune 500 company only lasts 20 years). Look at a house, if the foundation is screwed, you have to fix that before most of the framing and flooring.

So he ended up resigning and I’m dangerously assuming that that crowd that cheered him, did not stand up for him when the investigation into his statement were ridiculed. I had to look it up and see what happened. I’d assumed he was correct with the applause he received…. Wth

This is insanely stupid. Although I do highly doubt the staff the mayor wants to resign knew about the assignment. I think this falls on the particular school, not the board of education.
He's talking to the "school board" the elected officials that are over the school. They should be well aware the curriculum that is in their school.

Well, that's why they shouldn't have anything to do with government and the huge salries they get! Public school should be treated like private school. But yes, ultimately, they may have not been aware, but they should have been. Also, where's the permission slip my dad had to sign in order for me to be spoken to about condoms and pregnancy in health class and still divided by boys/girls?!?

They should all be forced to resign. They are the gate keepers to our kids education. That failed at doing their job and need to be replaced with someone who won't.
If this is true then he's absolutely right to ask these people to resign. But I would like more info before coming to a conclusion because it doesn't seem like I'm getting all the information it seems hard to believe and highly unlikely that teachers would give their students such an assignment.
This is just my guess. The teachers are asked to make or compile materials for the school's new textbook. They don't have time to check each of the theme and publish it. It's impossible for the board of education to check every single page of the school books, so they don't know anything about it. The parents find some themes in the textbooks are not educative, somewhat improper and too private. The major blames the board of the education.
Better wake up because that's the kind of stuff that often gets distributed at schools when mommy and daddy hand the kids over for the day.

Now that is what you call representation by the people, for the people.
Chain of command with schools. A teacher is present a school year curriculum to provide their students by their department lead/rep. If they want to adjust the guide and if it’s something that requires the approval of the parent. The teacher then has to as their department rep.
The department rep will get back to them before the school year starts by asking the district and school board to authorize. Especially if it’s something that could cause the staff member to incriminated. Deans, AP and Principal plus the truancy officers are all notified once the school board approves of something this gruesome.
If it’s been documented that they signed off they are the ones responsible as are the teachers and schools APs deans etc and principal for not bringing something like this up that parents would clearly fight back on.
It’s worth mentioning that the book in question contained over 600 prompts and the students were given a choice over which ones to answer. Also worth noting: the assignment was given by a college prep class that’s taken by 17 and 18 year olds. If these prompts showed up in a college freshman course nobody would have batted an eye. The mayor is generating needless outrage to boost his public opinion, that’s all.

I'm with you, this was sensationalized. But the prompt telling them to drink alcohol and write about it is still inappropriate for even 18yr olds. Perhaps they should have skipped the secks and drinking questions, even if the prompt was in the book. There's a difference between it being available for them to ponder on or write about on their own and it being assigned.
Those questions are entirely inappropriate for minors. WTF?

If that was the assignment the teacher responsibly should be fired (not given the chance to go to another district) and the principal and the BOE should at least take responsibility for not doing a proper job of monitoring that teacher's work. .. I Followed up the story. People stopped listening to each other and are more concerned with their emotions just like you. This Book was discovered in the Library of Hudson High School by Amanda Kocher the vice Chair of ‘Mom's for Liberty’ Summit County which is in another district. She's part of the conspiracy that a Secret society is indoctrinating your children and cabal and so forth. So she took her time in that Hudson School library found that one book that proves her point took photos and sent it viral on Facebook got likes, popularity & huge donations from outsiders and like-minded people like you and shared none of that money to make the Hudson School Library better. Hence Majoring a Minor Issue making a big deal out of it getting fame and money and causing unnecessary outrage in which the mayor being a Politician and wanting to please and appease the Public outrage asks the Board members who have no Idea of what’s going on to resign. Here’s the story behind a story and why the Board refused to resign. None of those assignments was ever assigned to students, they were part of supplementary materials (Books Meant for Further Information and Research) in a school library that were part of college level materials donated to the school.
These Books are not Part of the Curriculum. They are meant to widen the scope for further Information. The Particular Book happens to be Part of an Erotic Photography Coursework in College. Just like in my district colleges donates its books to high schools when they budget for new upgraded & updated books. They do this becoz thanks to the likes of you, Public schools like mine and Hudson are always underfunded. This isn’t news to you. In comparison it's similar to the US army donating military equipment's to law enforcement agencies after their massively new approved budget that upgrades their military weapons. That's why you'll find unnecessary weapons like Missiles, Grenade Launchers and Bombers in Police Weapons Equipment's Custody becoz they the Police did not budget and hire an expert staff to overlook & check on what was being donated and whether it was necessarily appropriate. Unless hired, nobody has the entire time to go look at all those thousands of materials let alone read them to see which is appropriate. You have to do a budget and hire an entire staff to do it.
Just like in my District, Public schools are already underfunded and understaffed. So they often have one librarian who already has a job e.g. also happens to be a Teacher or a non-teaching staff. She also doesn't have the time to look through all those thousands of materials going through the library shelves becoz her other job is equally demanding, so similarly when someone walks in our library finds some unintentionally inappropriate material in the library causes public outrage while getting huge donations and popularity out of it, then she gets fired our school won’t have a librarian and an English-Mathematics Teacher, and finding replacement is not as easy as you think, most won’t last and people like you won’t care. You are not helping or making education better for our children by buying into the outrage machine.

This is a very unprofessional mayor. I admire the sentiment o f what he said, but if he can't follow up on his threats, all he has done is make the other side stronger. He's let his ego get the better of him, making promises he can't cash. And now he has shown he is weak.
