So true man. Was reading anything I could back in the day to learn music theory and programming drums. It was so tedious but I enjoyed the process even though it took longer. These youngins have no idea how lucky they are to even be able to go to RUclips and find quality tutorials and interviews. This channel is and has always been dope. What a time to be alive.😎
I mostly "chop" a portion of a song and loop it but sometimes I may chop a loop I've selected into small pieces. Like you said it depends on the vibe im in.
Thank you for this, I've just been winging it for the past 3 years without really knowing what to do, and it seems like with software like FL Studio and Ableton, all these samplers and plugins have so many knobs, switches and dials, it's incredibly intimidating. It's like you're expected to already know what these things do and no explanation or instruction manual or document is provided, so videos like this are excellent.
No expectations, you learn as you can. You put the expectations on yourself. But learning to make beats, or learning to your your daw/sampler takes time as well. 💯💯 you got this!!
Was using GB and just upgraded to Logic. No idea how to use FL but I have been able to follow along. Thank you for breaking down something I always avoided but secretly wanted: sampling.
Thanks mate! Great explained I understood all and I am a foreigner! (y) Daw's are great - Samplers like MPC's are endlevel. And actually it depends if you chopp or take loops - if the sample is raw great than let it unscliced and take a nice loop on your drums (I begin mostly to always with my loops ). But if you have so many different instruments in that sample you pick them by chopping to assist them with effects singly.
So much game all in one video!!! appreciate it my guy🙏🏼 Tho I do use both technique I would say chopping is my favorite cause it give a song new life plus it gives it the bounce that help you want to move with the drums.
This is solid Heat...I have chopping experience but I never really messed with Fruity slicer...I was looking for an alternative since my Serato sample is giving me issues within FL ...mac os version. But in Serato you also have those same slice options as fruity slicer ...
Dope!! Thanks for tuning in. 🙏🏽💯 check out my “Cookin’ That Boom Bap” course. I go through structure/arrangement for your beats in that course. Also touch a bit on mixing in there as well. boombapuniversity.com
what a great video again! For me microchopping us king ... not a hage fan of looping, it just doesn´t click and it does not feel personal enough ... Like microchopping feels more like making a beat of your own while looping is more of the remixing side
I love his videos keep up the good work bro I just have a problem I picked the wrong type of sample for me I'm doing beats for me I am a rap artist I had a health setback so I'm learning how to do everything all over again
Thanks for the tutorials. I have a challenge with matching the BPM with the loop or sample. How can I achieve that on the playlist or on Edison or slicer?
on the playlist just use the stretch knob in the sampler/channel options where you change the pitch. in the slicer just ensure your sample is looped correctly, you can set your beats (chops) to whatever you want, 16, 32, and so on. then it will chop accordingly. book a 1on1 consultation with me to get more in depth details about this and how to loop or slice samples in general.
I’ve got chopping down, but I’m trying to figure out how to make a baseline. I use wavecandy to fire in the key, but haven’t quite figured out how to make one. I heard you can duplicate the chopped track and then EQ it, so it only plays the bass notes?
Yo heat! Check out Voxengo’s Sound Delay. It’s free but it allows you to “nudge” your sounds without compromising the playlist position. Adjust the x10 knob and watch the magic happen!
Heat, can you recommend a controller for FL Studio that has the 16 pad layout, that will work seamlessly with FL? Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
Its actually extremely helpful to visually see the work flow that you can only hear what other producers have done. And you definitely exposed a “problem” i have with searching for loops because my chopping is subpar. Just means i need more hours in the gym. But thanks big dawg! 💪🏾💪🏾
Can I just ask how you managed to get such an old sample where all the transients were on beat without using NewTime (unless you did but didn’t talk about it) Usually this essentially is never the case with old samples
dont need a license unless you've placed the song on a major song or distributing it on a major platform. You can use services like Traklib in order to get a license legally when using the samples on their platform. I have more info about clearing samples in this video ➡ ruclips.net/video/HCww5PfXP6w/видео.html
Took me yrs to learn this before the internet. They getting the sauce. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Great vid bro. 🔥

yep, the sample will always tell you what to do. never go in with one mindset when chopping samples. thanks for watching fam!!

I like chopping cause i really fw drums and bounce and you can really mold the bounce of a beat when you chop it up
True!! 💯💯
Glad you pointed out the distinction between chopping and looping 💯.. , I've Mastered chopping for years now
Right on!! thanks for watching fam.
What i love about a keyboard is that you can try more than 16 chops by more keys

Preciate you big dawg🤝
Appreciate you fam!! 💯💯
Pure gems and a really detailed video. Much love
Thanks fam!! 🙏🏽 appreciate you watching
Sometimes I'll reverse it then chop. Makes it into something totally different.
word up!! yep, I love to reverse samples. sometimes makes the melody stand out
I go with all of the above bro... Lol . Great video as always
For sure!! Everyone has their way of creating. It’s dope to hear the diff unique ways other producers have
you are the best my friend!!!
🙏🏾🙏🏾💯 thanks fam!! appreciate that.

Definitely love the channel man , I use the maschine mikro ? do you have any videos for maschine users at all ?
I dont have any maschine videos as I dont use the maschine. but everything I show/teach in my videos are principles you can use in any DAW.
I like to perform all of them. It just depends on how I feel in the moment.
exactly!! its all about feeling. sometimes the sample will tell you what to do. 💯💯💯
I defintely heard that sample on big artist track. Not telling though lol
🤫🤫😉😂😂
I love his videos keep up the good work bro I just have a problem I picked the wrong type of sample for me I'm doing beats for me I am a rap artist I had a health setback so I'm learning how to do everything all over again

Microchopping can keep you from getting sued.
Microchopping= no sample clearances
yep. micro-chop and create one shots from the sample. will def help with sample clearances.
Yo heat! Check out Voxengo’s Sound Delay. It’s free but it allows you to “nudge” your sounds without compromising the playlist position. Adjust the x10 knob and watch the magic happen!
I’ll be sure to peep fam!! Thanks 💯
Heat, can you recommend a controller for FL Studio that has the 16 pad layout, that will work seamlessly with FL? Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
If you want pads. Go with an MPD, if you want the best of both worlds go with an MPK249 like mine
@@theycallmeheat Thank you, Heat. Enjoy the holiday weekend.
No doubt!! Same to you fam. 💯💯
Is the boom bap university geared towards one type of daw (FL)?
Nope not at all. I teach principles, not just about the DAW. So what I show will be able to be applied to any DAW or Sampler
Is the boom-bap course easy to understand for any daw?
Absolutely!! I teach principles not the inner workings of the DAW. I make it so anybody can learn. 💯💯
I like to loop my sample
word up!! every one has their own vibe they love. 💯💯
I have sampled this track before. It’s pretty fire. Curious to see what you will do with it
dope!! thanks for watching fam.

Bro. Is the beat battle at 8pm east coast time or west coast?
Can I just ask how you managed to get such an old sample where all the transients were on beat without using NewTime (unless you did but didn’t talk about it) Usually this essentially is never the case with old samples
all depends on your source. I usually just dig on RUclips. If the quality isnt there, im not downloading it.
I both chop and loop
word up!! every beat calls for something diff. 💯
Chopping
🤔
32 is probably quadruple rather than triple the tempo of 8 bars ;)
It's a wrap when they add Stems to SeratoSample. 😂
you feel me!!! that is going to be CRAZY!!!
Where can I get the drums from the intro beat?
those sounds are from a pack in the vault. I dont remember the specific one
How do you clear the sample ?
Depends on where you got it. And that’s usually the artist/labels job
What's the beat at the end?
thats a beat in my beat store. its from a remix I did for Pusha T & Jay-Z. check it out on my bandcamp. theycallmeheat.bandcamp.com
Why put your bpm at 170 instead of 85??
Gives me a better bounce. I feel it more when it’s sped up versus it being slower. Same tempo, just double.
@@theycallmeheat makes sense I just never seen it used for our style usually only trap or drill.
5 commercial breaks for a little tutorial? Nah G
apologies fam!! its all apart of youtubes algorithm. thanks for watching!!
I was with you until you said HEATMAKERZ don’t chop but great vid
Often*
please change that snare
🤣🤣 nah, the snare stays 😅

I loath samples I don’t and won’t use them. If you can’t use the real thing then don’t bother.
Everyone has their way they want to cook. I love samples and will always use them. 🙏🏽💯
chop the off-beats, loopings cool but get creative people
Word!!
This dudes music is cool, but he is corny...
"Microchopping"...
🤣🤣🤣🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Appreciate your engagement homie!! 😂😂🤷🏾♂️
Follow that bass line in the sample when chopping if the bass line make sense everything else will make sense indeed
For sure!! Thanks for tuning in fam. 💯💯
