Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum! Usually when a pirate who's plundered numerous cities and exploded his prisoners is captured he's sent to the gallows, but for one Henry Morgan the guy was knighted by the king and sent back to Jamaica to serve as its Lieutenant Governor. Well it turns out all you need is a letter of marque to wreak havoc on the Spanish Empire, a lack of oversight from governor Modyford, and a pinch of luck. And maybe some bad puns along the way.
Music (in order of appearance):
Derek Fiechter - Davy Jones
Kevin Macleod - Hidden Past
Kevin Macleod - Achaidh Cheide
Antti Martikainen - Port Royal
Derek Fiechter - Pirate Raid
Froto covering Hans Zimmer - He's a Pirate
Kevin Macleod covering J.S. Bach - Prelude in C

This was a funny video Jack Rackham. Great job. I love anything to do with Pirates.
Hey Jack Rackam---Please do a video on Geoffrey Spicer-Simpson. This guys antics would be right up your alley and a very worthy of a video from you.
"Then he caught a fever and died."
"Morgan, go for a walk". I see Jack is a man of culture.
A yes Britain's other Alucard
"Very enthusiastic walks."
Spain: Oh fuck all kinds of duck.
*blows up building full of prisoners of war*
Spanish Governor: "How the blood-soaked Protestant Hell did you do that?!"
Henry: "Fuck you, that's how."
*Someone blows up Morgan's ship, but doesn't kill him*
Morgan: "you done goofed!"
As the video didn't end on his death I have to assume Henry Morgan is immortal and still terrorizing Spanish nuns to this day.
That sounds like a good idea for a book.
Don't worry, he caught tuberculosis and died!
@@garybacon659 ,
Nah... I like this alternative history better.
@@garybacon659 He got a state funeral. Then his remains fell into the sea along with most of Port Royal in the 1692 earthquake.

Spaniard: but first, I'm going to rape her!
Morgan: Neat.
Spaniard: but before I do any of that, I'm going to kill you!
Morgan: Oh? See, that would be intimidating if you were...well, intimidating!
Spaniard: Are you mocking me?!

My kids shoulder watch this sometimes, and definitely enjoy it, asking for another if they've come somewhere in the middle
I’m glad. History is one of the most important subjects to master.
That's awesome

Actually same! My own 10 year old cousin Aaron watches this channel and Overly Sarcastic Productions a bunch!
About the attack on Panama city, there is this legend that says that when Henry Morgan, attacked the old city. To prevent the golden altar of the church from being taken away, the priests painted it with a black oil that looked like tar. When the pirates arrived at the stone church, they exclaimed how poor it looked. Fray Juan, who was in charge, even asked Henry Morgan for alms to finish the altar, who replied that this fray was more pirate than he and gave him a handful of coins. Is a funny story that we like to tell. After the destruction of the city, the altar was moved to the new city...
8:10 love how Hellsing Abridged has just left us so many quotes for so many moments
"So there I was just chillaxin like a balla when these Spaniards burst in and said-
"'Ponte de rodillas!'
"And I said-
"'I'm not your mother last night!'
"... And they took exception to that."
I'm guessing the after knighting party for a pirate would've been crazy.
Imagine the amount of Rum for a knighted pirate. Those must be a ton of barrels.
That my friend was the idea for captain Morgan's rums
Modyford sending Henry Morgan "on a walk" is not the Hellsing Abridged reference I expected, but it's the one I NEEDED.
"Go for a walk." Excellent reference.
8:10 God, I loved that reference XD
Hello, HUA references!
A very enthusiastic walk.
You left out the most important part - they named an alcoholic beverage after him
“Once upon a time, England and Spain were at war”
Ah, so that must mean the 1380s…or the 1580s and 1590s…or the 1620s and 1630s…or the-well, you get the idea
Spain won 31 wars. England/UK wins 25
It was a confrontation that lasted more than 400 years.
Can't wait to watch this, ( also, if you want to do more pirate stuff, how about do you one on Barbarossa, the pirate right hand of Suleiman the Magnificent who terrorized the Mediterrean, or on Ching Shih: the Pirate Queen of the South China Sea who had thousands of sailors and hundreds of ships under her command, fought the Portuguese, British, and Qing Navies, and managed to get a pardon, keep all her loot and retire to become a casino owner.
Grace O’Malley, Pirate Queen of Ireland.
Met Elizabeth I personally.
@@michaelsinger4638 Awesome Fact 👌
On the topic of Barbarossa, there’s also the pirate queen of the OTHER half of the Mediterranean, Sayyida Al-Hurra, who was so badass that the Sultan of Morocco married her in her own town instead of the capital. Another interesting pirate topic could be the Sultanate of Sulu in the southern Philippines, which engaged in ridiculous amounts of state-sponsored piracy against the Spanish!
@@nopecopter I've hear of Sayyida, she's quite a badass herself, however this is the first time I heard about the sultanate of sultan, thanks for informing me on said topic.

The answer of the threat of violence is overwhelming violence and with that Modyford invented the philosophy of the security dilemma.
Henry Morgan was a beast and was one of a very small percentage of infamous pirates who managed to die peacefully from natural causes, rum is natural right?
Yup. And in sleep apparently.
Well… peacefully if you don‘t consider his drunken misery before that.
Don't know why they always say Roberts was the most succesful pirate ever. Roberts died in battle and never got to enjoy his plunderings.

3:52 I am taking a course on the Atlantic world (early empire-building with a focus on piracy), and it amazed me to see THE Portabello be a target. This man was a legend.
Sometimes Henry Morgan sounds like a character out of a story book
Not saying that Henry Morgan is not a very interesting character, but most people's lives do feel like a novel, if you focus on the right parts.
My maternal grandmother won a bet and a brawl with a sheriff to get her husband released from jail, believed storms hunted her, raised seven daughters while living in a literal hole in the ground, whose walls she painted with flowers and knew prayers reported to banish serpents and make one invisible to cops.
My paternal great grandmother was a teacher who, in the early 20th Century, opened a multilingual school for children of former enslaved people, immigrants and kids with special needs. She once punched a mayor for being corrupt. Also, whenever a parent or boss tried to impede a kid from going to school, she would ride on her black horse across town, kick doors and simply take the child out from their workplace back to her school without asking anyone's permission.
Years later she married her daughters to a native shaman, a Portuguese train conductor and a Muslim gardener, built a cathedral and befriended her son's husband, back in 1930's South America.
She forbade anyone from sending flowers to her funeral after she died, commanding that they should send school material to be donated to poor students, instead. Everyone obliged and, for a few decades, she became kind of a local saint parents and students prayed to.
So on and so forth.
@@edisonlima4647 Neither of those are as interesting as Henry Morgan but both are more interesting than you, so your point doesn't really hold water at all.

Nothing's better than a bit of piratey fun with Jack Rackam! 👍
You don't express how badass the Brethren of the Coast was, it wasn't just 30 ships and 2000 men it was a call to arms for all enemies of the Spanish: French, English, Dutch, even Spaniards like Diego Lucifer, they all came from the woods. Buccaneers, rovers, criminals and pirates, everyone came together and sacked Panama. Afterwards, people like Basil Ringrose and William Dampier left amazing journals and published them describing their adventures after Panama. The only one who kept any "first hand" experiences of Panama was Alexander Exquemelin, who, honestly, really wrote a disgruntled account of Morgan and how he cheated everyone of a fair share.
Always happy to see new videos, awesome work!
" Morgan why don't you...Go for a walk" nice TFS Hellsing reference.
As a guy who hasn't seen the original Hellsing, should I go through it first before watching abridged?
@@johnnygyro2295 well, there's two shows. One is called Hellsing, it partly follows the manga story at first but then veers into it's own original content and it's much older. The other is called Hellsing Ultimate and has ten episodes that follow the manga story from beginning to end.
The reference itself is unique to the abridged so it's not entirely necessary to watch the actual show, though I recommend it.

Henry Morgan wrecking the Spanish made my day brighter. Specially the ones with the cows or bulls or oxen stampede.
are you a psychopath?
Henry Morgan was only a 9/11 type terrorist, attacking cities or isolated ships. Even the Royal Navy, which was much stronger than Henry Morgan, could not win against Spain. Spanish celebrated the sinking of hundreds of British ships in all centuries
1372. La Rochelle. 48 English ships sunk. 0 Spanish sunk.
1374-1411. 5 Spanish invasions of southern England, reaching up the Thames almost to London
1554 Philip II of Spain arrives with a fleet in England, and becomes king of England and Ireland
1589. 60-80 ships of Drake's invincible fleet destroyed in the Atlantic. Elisabeth condemns Drake to be a lighthouse keeper.
1595-96. 5 defeats and death of Drake in the Spanish Caribbean
1625. 62 English and Dutch ships destroyed in Cadiz
1629. 14 English and French ships of the combined fleet destroyed in the Spanish Caribbean. Spain wins the war against England
1739-48 War of Jenkins' Ear. 400 British ships captured or sunk. 100 Spanish ships sunk
1741. Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. 50 British ships sunk
1779-82. Spanish blockade of the United Kingdom, capture of two British fleets of 24 and 55 ships. Collapse of the London Stock Exchange. Spain gives the silver real or Spanish dollar to the USA, and independence
1782. Capture of 110 British ships in the Bahamas.
1797. 3 defeats for Nelson (escape in the Mediterranean, Cadiz and Tenerife) Another British invasion fleet defeated in Puerto Rico
1806-07. Failure of the British invasion fleet in Argentina and Uruguay. Capture of British redcoats and generals.
We also captured hundreds of ships from the Dutch, French and Turks. Thanks to these victories the Spanish legacy is the largest in the world in terms of native speakers (485 million) and Christians (800 million)
