Yes, sadly that place is rather run down these days and the Abbey (the one built with great fanfare in the 1970s), is now abandoned and derelict. I think the monks have reverted to the original Abbey again. I am not sure if the pottery workshope is still there or not. I like Painswick, but I always surprised how few shops and facilities it has (it has only one cafe/coffee shop, which never seems to be open!) considering the number of visitors the town attracts. Thanks Ted! Hope you are both well, Take care, Paul
Not just a shepherd's delight, that was a viewers delight, the bird song was wonderful as well. The paths looked pretty squelchy, maybe not surprising at this time of year & after such rain.
Thank you Cathy! Glad you enjoyed it. It wasn't too bad with the paths - seen much worse elsewhere! Sheepscombe is fascinating - and I hope to go back there. I would never drive there - no parking and the lanes are horrendous. Maybe walk from Cranham village? Take care, Paul
Great video of a very pleasant walk in beautiful countryside. I remember, some years ago, walking the narrow, twisting lane from Longridge to Painswick as part of a longer walk from Stroud, via Slad and Bulls Cross. It was a delightful walk, which sticks in the memory. Maybe, it's time for a revisit...
Thank you Malcolm! Yes, I really enjoyed doing this walk. The weather helped too. The landscape on it helped a lot. I had never even heard of Bull's Cross (what an odd name!!) or Longridge prior to doing this walk - it is very much an unknown part of the Cotswolds, and a world away from Bourton-on-the-Water, where I was last time. Thanks so much. Cheers, Paul
Hello Paul - greetings from Poland A fabulous circular walk - one of your very best in my opinion. From the big little village of Painsweek to Sheepscoombe with its very famous cricket ground via Pill House Farm, back to where we started. Beautifull rolling countryside, babbling brooks, Cotswold stone villages and houses and woods full of snowdrops - a more lovely walk will be very difficult to find at this time of year. Superb photographs and camera work with a commentary full of information makes for a brilliant video.
Thank you Michael! Glad you enjoyed this Cotswold Walk. I did film it in a slightly different way to usual. I think it worked on this particular one. I do hope to have a longer look around Sheepscombe at a future date. Thanks so much for your kind words! Take care, Paul
It quess it not to far from Slad either. That's another, on my must goto place. I would like to visit Laurie Lee's burial site and have a cheeky drink in the Woolpack.
@@davetyler16Yes, Slad is close by. You can walk through that wood I was in to get to it. I show Laurie Lee's burial place in my Slad video - it is pretty much facing The Woolpack! Enjoy.
Mornin' Paul, A lovely walk through the Cotswolds. I'm glad you're back out again after your illness, it must have felt great. I particularly liked the view of the church spire which could be seen from far away. I'm in amongst the clouds at the moment my temperature meter just flashed up a flu warning so I've switched on the heater!! All the best!!
Good morning David! I was in Dorset yesterday - made 3 videos there. It was a gorgeous day too. Oh no! Sorry to hear about 'flu warning! Hope you haven't got what I had a couple of weeks ago - only now just regaining my energy levels! Yes, the spire in Painswick is stunning, isn't it? And, Sheepscombe church is just so odd! Take care, Paul
@@westcountrywanderings Look forward to that, of all your area perhaps this is the county that I know best. Flu warning went after the room warmed up!! I did wonder after seeing Louises video whether you would burst into song too. For this village I would recommend Shepherd's Dance (from HENRY VIII). Its my favourite song from my choir singing days and I think my sisters too, we both sung in the same choir ..... a very long time ago!! All the best, suns out down here today!!
@@westcountrywanderings Its funny but having a little digital temperature humidty meter on the shelf above my computer has really calibrated my sensitivity to the temperature, I can normally guess what it is first thing in the morning. Just been to West Bay .... well virtually anyway ....
Very wet & squelchy. It is very steep in that area - I hope you didn’t find it too much after your bout of flu! It was a lovely walk & I am a sucker for snowdrops- there is something extra special about the sight of clumps of them - a herald of Spring & they were everywhere!!! And they have a gorgeous scent if you walk through a wood full of them. It was interesting that you’ve found it the best walking area for signage ,wardens, upkeep etc. Thanks Paul!
Thank you Diana! Glad you enjoyed it. It was a little squechly, but not as bad as I have come across elsewhere before. It was only a mini walk - about 3 or 4 miles, a lot less than The Severn Way. It was so good to be out in the fresh air and in some sunshine. Yes, The Cotswolds AONB (all of it from Warwickshire down to West Wiltshire) has brilliantly maintained footpaths. Shame that is not the case elsewhere. They set the bar high for other areas to follow. I would like to show them 'in action' repairing gates and signposts in a video. They are all volunteers. Take care, Paul
A wonderful video Paul. I love Sheepscombe! The pub is worth a visit. There is a nice walk in the wooded valley north east of Sheepscombe. Also a nice walk to Cranham. Such a pretty area.
Hello Paul. Another of your beautifully filmed walks. Many of the pathways looked rather muddy, although you did say they were well waymarked. I'm afraid anywhere off the hard surface has got in a bit of a mess after the rain we've had. Nevertheless, your clever composition showed the area in its true beauty. Thank you.
Thank you Lionel and Mary. The light was perfect for photography on the day of this walk. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, lots of muddy paths around at the moment - we need at least two weeks of dry days to dry everything out. Take care, Paul
Remember driving through the village of Painswick on the way to Prinknash Abbey and admiring the pottery.

Hello. I loved the views of Painswick town from the hills and yes isnt Sheepscombe church unusual! I don't fancy some of those muddy paths! 🙂🥾🥾

Beautifully filmed. Looking forward to your return to Sheepscombe!
Thank you! Yes, I may tackle it from the Cranham end next time, or possibly the National Trust place near Foston's Ash.

A great video as usual Paul. Loved Sheepscombe. I will be visiting Painswick when I do the Cotswolds Way again, in July.
