  • A beautiful day back on my Northern waters had a little of everything. I plugged for stripers in the evening after boxing some jumbo porgies and catching my first fluke of the new season. While porgy fishing I attached an underwater camera to my chum pot which was great to learn how fast the fish find it and when it runs out.

If the sea robins are decent size, they make tasty filets. The yield is low, maybe 1 pound of filet from 5 pounds of round fish. IMO porgies are tastier if cooked with the bone in, scaled but with the skin on. I cut along the dorsal fin but leave the fin on.

Nice. I love the Jumpin’ Minnow for bass, and have caught albies on it too. Plus, it’s much less-expensive than many other surf plugs. I often replace the rear hook with a bucktail trailer, which keeps me from catching the super-small bass, and it hasn’t diminished my ability to hook the larger fish.
