Building a Grain Storage Bin

- Last summer, I had some issues with my well, and we lost water to the house. I called in a local well drilling contractor to get the water flowing again. So, when they were in need of a local craftsman to build a grain storage bin for their beloved horse, I was more than happy to offer my services.
The design has a nice angle on the front for easy access, a decorative trim along the bottom, and sits on some feet with an elegant curve.

Just because a tool is listed does not mean I endorse it. I have either liked it well enough to continue using it, or I can’t afford to buy something better. Tools are listed because “What tool is that” is one of the more frequently asked questions, and most links are affiliate links, so thank you for your support.

I use an old job box that has seen better days. Definitely time to upgrade to wood. Nice video!
Good job ! I liked the grain storage box !
I'm so jealous of your shop.
after I finish my chicken atriums (yes I'm crazy) I'm getting started on trying to create mouse proof feed storage.
I just can't put that many metal garbage cans in my garage so feed box it is.
I've got my work cut out for me 😱
Great Video, thanks for sharing!
What was your material list and dimension on this bin?
Man does he wreck it with that paint. He should have built this with 1 x 4 planks. That would look better.
Anti paint doesn't get paid when the client wants it teal. If you want to build your own and not paint it, I sell plans on my website.
What kind of paint did you use? If you don’t mind me asking. You do beautiful work. I love all the detail.
How long can you store grain in that silo? Nice work and thank you for sharing.
Great video and great tools was the angle 27 degrees for the lid and how rodent proof would you rate your design?
I am also going to make a mouse proof food storage bin. Does the trim help with that? Any suggestions to help prevent them from getting in?
@@Benham_Design ok thank you!
Hey Brian love the double sided tape w/ blue tape trick. Do you happen to know what double sided tape that is or where you hot it?
Brian Benham thanks man. All the stuff I found at home depot was foam based and added unnecessary thickness.
Perfect I'll swing by Lowes and take a look. Thanks again.
👍
How good a carpenter/joiner/woodworker would you be without all the power tools?
Brian Benham Somebody has tool envy! Most woodworkers start off with basic hand tools. Ability and an understanding of their medium makes the woodworker, not the tools. The tools are just a means to the process. Be proud of your accomplishments.
Brian... perfect response. The tools don't make the craftsman.
I have somewhat of an answer: Though I have zero interest in grain storage bins, I came to this video just because of who's making it.
Assaf hit it on the head. I will watch Brian Benham, Brian Noel, Matt Cremona, Marc Spagnuolo, Kyle Toth, and very few others build damn near anything. I hardly notice the tools anymore; it's the sheer skill that draws me in.
Paint and grain's.. not a good combination.
