  • @sharkozym
    @sharkozym Год назад +262

For those wondering how long this type of system will produce gas to burn, it has an end point depending on what you use it for, until it can restart the gas process again. However you can get what is called a bladder that fills up with the gas over a period of time and you can have multiple barrels or use something bigger. Many hog farms have methane plants on site to produce all the power they need for lighting and heat but dangers come with gas volume. It works but it will need maintained but it’s free energy!

I remember a TV news show from the 70s of a man in France that collected gas from his compost pile. Yard cuttings, table scraps, etc. went into a circular masonry or concrete compost container. The top was capped and a valve in the center of the top. As gas developed it went out the vent into tire inner tubes for storage, any rubber bladder will do.
He used the gas to power an old car he used for the weekly trip into town for groceries.

Need to install a "check valve" (one way valve) after the ball valve (open/close valve) to stop any air get into the tank, mixing oxygen with methane is very dangerous.
It is also a good idea to install a pressure gauge to indicate the pressure inside the tank, it implies how much gas is in the tank.

when there is gas there is some positive pressure. When no more gas is coming out there is no gas to explode. Flashback arrestors are needed for situations where fuel remains in storage while being discharged such as Oxy/Act torches. Where there is risk of pushing the ignition into the supply line. Don't see the risk in this case.

A digester of this size will produce about an hour or so of regulated gas to a burner/water heater or something similar. If built correctly that would be per day of gas with continuing to add food waste or any other organic material at a 50/50 mixture. So an hour of gas per day per 55 gallon drum or so is a decent rule of thumb.

It's amazing how science and technology can provide sustainable solutions by converting waste materials into useful resources. This kind of approach not only helps in waste management but also in reducing our carbon footprint. It's inspiring to see how we can create energy self-sufficiency and promote environmental sustainability. Keep exploring such interesting subjects! 🌍💡🔋

Gas can be tubed to storage balloons, which can increase/stabilize pressure and allow for greater storage. Best to investigate a filter, as the gas tends to have high sulphur content and can jam up the equipment being used.

The commercial biogas systems (like HomeBiogas) can be connected to a small one burner cooktop, with their smaller, backyard version making about 2 hours of cooking gas use per day (depends on the sun, or how much waste you just put in, etc.). Bigger ones can make more gas, obviously.

    This is fine.
But just for the record, manure can be used to brew alcohol with brewer’s yeast. Sugar, corn, potatoes, flour, or any fruit crop can also be used.
To separate the alcohol from the water, you can use a old fashioned Still, as long as you don’t illegally drink the alcohol.
There are two other distillation techniques. The first is to put a gallon of alcohol-water blend into the freezer. The alcohol won’t freeze, so it can be poured out. Another way is to add salt and food coloring to the alcohol-water blend. They say that the colored salt water sinks to the bottom, and the clear alcohol floats to the top. But I’ve never tried it.
The energy density of alcohol is 300 times higher than methane. So it’s definitely a viable fuel. And one last thing: But it’s not for the faint of heart.
Human sewage is great fertilizer. So your septic tank can be a source of alcohol. The Brewer’s Yeast won’t complain.
But your wife might have something to say, when you heat-up the Still.

Make a bigger one out of a pool with a floating resovoir in it. As it fills with gas the resovoir rises out of the water. Feed with a slurry of manure sawdust and biodegradable waste. You can store the gas in a propane tank with a compressor and dryer to clean it up.

It run about 2 hours slowly depleting for a 2 weeks on that storage. You need to drain few litres and add more bio waste material. But if you have a storage tank you can fill it up with safety valve if you have the same size tank you can maximize the capacity by just storing the gas you can get upto 10 hours on that same stove. But safety is very important use relief valves etc.

Cant you compress these kind's of gasses with a compressor and a gastank or High pressure Gas tank? It would make collecting and storing easier and more in capacity.

As a viewer, I'll give your question a shot.
This system operates off of the methane gas that is being produced from the fermentation of the manure.
It is not consuming it, but only using the gasses it produces.
It is not wise to smoke around septic tanks, compost bins or barrels, or even land fills. All which produces methane gas.
It could work off of a septic tank if you had a very small air inlet, but it could be very dangerous.

How does the relief vale work from avoiding explosion of the drum?
Does the relief valve release the biogas into the air?
Isn't it dangerous and harmful when the relief valve release the gas?
I am a student conducting a study according to biogas system can you please enlighten us? It will help a lot to our study. Thank you.
