For those wondering how long this type of system will produce gas to burn, it has an end point depending on what you use it for, until it can restart the gas process again. However you can get what is called a bladder that fills up with the gas over a period of time and you can have multiple barrels or use something bigger. Many hog farms have methane plants on site to produce all the power they need for lighting and heat but dangers come with gas volume. It works but it will need maintained but it’s free energy!
I remember a TV news show from the 70s of a man in France that collected gas from his compost pile. Yard cuttings, table scraps, etc. went into a circular masonry or concrete compost container. The top was capped and a valve in the center of the top. As gas developed it went out the vent into tire inner tubes for storage, any rubber bladder will do. He used the gas to power an old car he used for the weekly trip into town for groceries.
Need to install a "check valve" (one way valve) after the ball valve (open/close valve) to stop any air get into the tank, mixing oxygen with methane is very dangerous. It is also a good idea to install a pressure gauge to indicate the pressure inside the tank, it implies how much gas is in the tank.
Love it.. while camping here in FLA we caught a mini Typhoon that lasted maybe 20mins. Our neighbor’s over the top Class A both Toppers on the slide-outs ripped apart and disengaged one of the slides. I helped them completely cut them off; mobile RV repair came out and engaged the slide back. I decided afterwards to stay away from a slide topper. Since we camp in all weather and all year when slotted a window to hit the road.
This is super cool! I would really like to see how long it runs on that methane after the 2 weeks of fermentation. Best way I could think of testing it would be to light the hose like u did and time lapse it until it goes out. That would be interesting

when there is gas there is some positive pressure. When no more gas is coming out there is no gas to explode. Flashback arrestors are needed for situations where fuel remains in storage while being discharged such as Oxy/Act torches. Where there is risk of pushing the ignition into the supply line. Don't see the risk in this case.
A couple questions - After two weeks, how much gas is produced in terms of equivalence? Comparable to a 9kg LP tank? Or how long would the gas produced run a small cooking element like the one in the demonstration? Thank you.
A digester of this size will produce about an hour or so of regulated gas to a burner/water heater or something similar. If built correctly that would be per day of gas with continuing to add food waste or any other organic material at a 50/50 mixture. So an hour of gas per day per 55 gallon drum or so is a decent rule of thumb.
@@Roguescienceguy Just a question, how much can i expect if temperature is 20 degrees celsius and normal household rubbish in this tank? I dont know, so i ask

I can’t say for this set-up, but many people use similar systems to supply gas to a countertop burner in their kitchen. There are videos on it here on YT. Fantastic info. Wondering if alternative wastes will work as well as the Pig manure? I do have a real problem with the smell of Pig slurry. Makes me heave and even chuck. 😊
The first inoculation should be pig or cow manure which provide methanogens - other manures do not work as well. After your bio-digester is active it should be able to digest just about anything organic.
This is fine. But just for the record, manure can be used to brew alcohol with brewer’s yeast. Sugar, corn, potatoes, flour, or any fruit crop can also be used. To separate the alcohol from the water, you can use a old fashioned Still, as long as you don’t illegally drink the alcohol. There are two other distillation techniques. The Brewer’s Yeast won’t complain. But your wife might have something to say, when you heat-up the Still.
Make a bigger one out of a pool with a floating resovoir in it. As it fills with gas the resovoir rises out of the water. Feed with a slurry of manure sawdust and biodegradable waste. You can store the gas in a propane tank with a compressor and dryer to clean it up.
It run about 2 hours slowly depleting for a 2 weeks on that storage. You need to drain few litres and add more bio waste material. But if you have a storage tank you can fill it up with safety valve if you have the same size tank you can maximize the capacity by just storing the gas you can get upto 10 hours on that same stove. But safety is very important use relief valves etc.
Cant you compress these kind's of gasses with a compressor and a gastank or High pressure Gas tank? It would make collecting and storing easier and more in capacity.
As a viewer, I'll give your question a shot. This system operates off of the methane gas that is being produced from the fermentation of the manure. Finally a very clear explanation about how to produce such a methane producing barrel. Thank you!
Thanks for the tips l have no knowledge of these things so I wouldn't be making one anytime soon lol
Considering that valve will have a bunch of shit behind it, (pun intended), no air will get in.
It should be a no brainer but it isn’t for most people.
Thank you! I will implement those ideas.
Wouldn't the pressure relief valve on the top prevent the build up of too much pressure inside the tank?
In India and Sri-Lanka people do the same way. But with vegetable wastage and cow manure. Wonderful idea. ❤
