You might be able to attach a type of bendable plastic flange there, around the bottom lip of the floating tank, but you won't lose that much even if you don't add a flange. The trick, I think, is to get two tanks that fit together as closely as possible, so that gap is small.

You are Hero's, making the world better in many ways.
Just a thing about the manure:
You would want to see what the animal eats for the bacteria culture.
If you have a lot of branches and grass, I would suggest having a second digester for your garden material. (the bacteria need to be able to specialize in this case)
Problem is that food is already processed a lot and will digest more easily.
Anything with a cell wall will have a problem digesting, but then you would use a mix of horse and cow manure.
Chickens are for example more predatory and eat seeds, which will have a different mix of bacteria. but also probably fix more nitrogen in their droppings.
The Basic material is easily fixed too:
You said not to add bones or hard stuff that does not digest.
To balance your acidity around a PH of 6, you could use egg shells, clam shells, bones and such.
They will slowly break down as the acidity lowers and push the PH back up as they add calcium ions into the mix.
Just be sure it's a small layer of material that stays on the bottom, you will want to ensure it does not overfill.
(might use the good old stick prodding method to check how much stuff is on the bottom)
    Design wise:
Simple and easy to build, am only concerned with a little gas leak from the sides of the digester, a skirt on the storage might solve this though...
(Just to ensure as little methane as possible escapes into the air, because it is another greenhouse gas)
I really hope this video reaches as many people as possible.

If the liquid level is relatively full, the fresh in feed material will stay at the top of the feed-in pipe. If adding material at 1 L/day then it may take several day's worth of fresh supply to push it down to the bottom of the tank.
That means today's feed could be a week old before it is in the tank.
All this while it will be off-gassing to the atmosphere. There needs to be some mechanism to push the feed material into the bottom of the tank directly after adding it.
    Any suggestions.
Perhaps capping the feed-in pipe after adding the feed-in material. So the pressure of any gas produced in the pipe will force the fresh feed further down the pipe?
Or even T'ing the gas outlet into the feed-in cap?
Maybe a plunger? I am open to suggestions.
