Your videos are solid gold. You condense multiple draw a box videos into a single shorter, more concise, and clearer video. I love it! Your style would translate to teaching kids, I believe, since they have shorter attention spans and don't want to sift through draw a box videos to get past his opinions and onto the lesson. Please consider making a simple curriculum with exercises! I would pay for it for my kids (advanced 9 and 7 year olds).
Thanks so much, I really appreciate that! I would like to eventually put together some proper curriculum/courses, not sure when I'll get to that but it'll come. Someone else has mentioned teaching kids as well, so I might have to give that more thought and try my hand at that! Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this video! I've always heard line weight explained in bits and pieces, but never have I heard such an exhaustive and clear explanation like yours. And thank you for the demo on your own drawing at the end also, this made it so much clearer. Much love for this channel!
i just discovered the channel and dude you are actually such a good teacher, it's just refreshing to have someone get to the point of a video without ten minutes of crap. that's worth a sub
This an awesome channel with so much info. This video and your video on how to draw anything have helped me progress more in the past few weeks than all of my previous studies combined!! Thank you so much and please don’t stop these invaluable tutorial videos!
This is literally the best video I’ve watched covering linework - thank youuu!!! I’ve always struggled to understand some of the principles in this subject, but you explained it really really well! I can’t wait to work on my next piece with these things in mind :D
When you talk about having confidence with line, do you already have in mind what your are about to draw? How does this apply when you are exploring an idea? Sometimes I do now what I want to draw but others is just a sketch. I am also wondering if these tips are easy to do on paper than on a screen, maybe you have a recommendation for a good screen protector that has a paper feel. Thank you.
Great questions! I normally have some general sense of what I'm sketching, but as a very general statement, I'd say yes, you can be a lot looser with initial sketches, it'll give it more energy and stuff; but it sort of depends what you're going for, if part of that process is laying in some perspective lines, those should have some degree of accuracy to them so your perspective's not all wonky. But yeah exploring ideas, stay loose. You can do loose sketches on paper too with graphite, light markers, or just have a light touch with a ballpoint or something. For the actual exercises, yes it's way easier to do on paper, and I think it'll build up your muscle control easier, before moving onto digital. You can start off digital, but yes, the resistance paper provides helps give you control. My tablet just has a rough screen; I have a protector thing for an iPad, it's by Tech Armor, it's the only one I've ever tried, but seems good enough to me (I don't think I'm too picky though), it's got a decent "tooth" to it.
Hi! I'm very happy to find your channel. I also learned this kind of exercise from Peter Han too. May I ask some weird questions about this exercise? I did it daily but still doesn't know how the others dealt with it. When doing S curve 8x time in long or medium length, my accuracy fell sharply because my hand is blocking the view (I'm using pen display). Did it happen to you too?
This totally happened to me! I ended up rotating the paper a lot, basically 90 degrees, and drawing upward. A little more awkward but it was easier than I thought, and I could see the line better
