My husband and his brothers finally took that fishing trip to Canada that their dad had always dreamed of doing with his boys. My FIL passed the following summer. They are so thankful for those memories.

Heidi, my 19 year old son had a major car accident last Sunday and I’ve been in ICU. We have a LONG journey of healing ahead as he has traumatic brain injury. I just wanted to tell you, one of the first things I thought of was you, smiling and saying God is good, ALL the time ❤ I’m sorry for your loss. Even through your loss, you’ve been a help to me.

I just lost my daddy 4-29. He was 92 and up till 3 weeks before his death he could drive every day to eat lunch and ride around on his golf cart. He spent one week in hospital and one week at home and passed away after ALL of us went to sleep. I think he knew I couldn't handle watching him take his last breath. He's watched a lot of people suffer and pass in his life time and always said he didn't want to be a burden and have to be in a facility and he got his wish. I miss him so much. I stayed with him for the last 10 years and now here in the house is difficult.

That's fantastic that Patrick & his Dad took that trip when they did. Rufus was my kind of man to choose visiting Crazy Horse rather than "the crooks" at Mt Rushmore. Seems like "Papa Dick" went around the country gathering love from everyone and ended up at your place with the most precious family members and Took all the love with him to heaven. Did Jesus go to heaven after He died? NO. He laid in the grave days until His Father raised Him. This is a representation that when Jesus comes the 2nd time, this is WHY He will come to take the righteous He will wake up & raise them from their death sleep to take them home. Lazarus is an example that he slept in the grave, Moses is another example also, he was raised from the dead & taken to heaven.

Having lost my husband 2 years ago suddenly I have gone through a lot and one thing that sticks out to me was that through one of my prayer/crying times I was given the statement that "everyone has their time, no matter where or when but I will bring you through" so it was a blessing for sure that he was with family and enjoyed his time with Patrick and Patrick will remember that trip forever now with a smile on his face. His dad was not alone! God is good...all the time! I am praying for peace and comfort 🙏🏻 Blessings--Tammy
I think we go into survival-mode after extreme los (divorce included) for the first two years and then it hits us in the third year after. 🙏🏻🤗
I too lost my husband of 36 years,he's been gone 11 years. It was hard,but God helps those that have lost a loved one. I never remarried,but that's ok. Sorry Heidi and Patrick for your loss. But the memories live on in our hearts and minds. God bless both of you!

Losing a parent is so hard, but knowing that you gave him the chance to visit the people & places he wanted to see, and that he was surrounded by those he loved...it brings you comfort now, and ten years from now it will still bring you comfort. I can’t think of a better way to go than to be surrounded by people who love you. God is amazing how He worked out this trip, one I’m sure Patrick will always be grateful for. What a beautiful story. I'm experiencing the unexpected loss of my mother only to be followed by the COMPLETE unexpected loss of my brother just a few months later. Many know there's nothing like the loss of a parent, but the early loss of a sibling brings a completely different feeling, someone who was part of your complete history with your parents. What a lovely tribute to your father-in-law! Thank you for sharing! We had my father-in-law live with us for about 2 1/2 years prior to his passing at age 94. We literally kidnapped him from the hospital after he'd had a series of mini-strokes that made it impossible for him to live on his own any longer. He'd been alone for 15 years after mom passed, and lived about 5 hours away from us. We'd been trying to get him to come live with us for years, but he didn't want to be a burden and refused. After being with us for several weeks he decided he loved living with us and we were so blessed to be able to spend that time with him. We learned quite a bit of new information about him and the family that we'd never heard before. Dad was always the quiet one, and we'd hear things from mom when she was still alive, so for him to open up and talk so much was quite a pleasant surprise. Some of his stories were like on auto-rewind, but we listened every time anyway because he enjoyed telling them so much! We treasure those years so much. On another note, did I spy a Ford Fairlane in that photo? I'm thinking circa 1967. We just sold ours last summer. My hubby is a Ford Falcon man (that's what he had when I met him, a 1967 Ford Falcon, and she still hides in the shop on our property back in Canada). God bless you and your family!!

Speaking as an elderly person, what a blessing that he was able to make that trip and to be with all of you in the final days. There is nothing like being with family.

I, too, am using this time to relish all the good times and find the joy of his life in this world from all the wonderful people he helped create to expand our family and carry his legacy forward.
