The button on the underside, you pressed to get more wire out, can also be 'struck' on a harder surface whilst actually strimming, so you don't have to stop the machine and do it. Great video as usual, Mr Fowler!
Thanks for that comment, I didn't know you could do that with the spool on the strimmer. Knowing my luck, it will just fly off 🤬 !!!
@FixitwithFowler I have a smaller model to the one you have, but it has the same spooler feed mechanism. Don't smack it too hard or it might break lol
@GiggleBytes2011 I will give it a try next time I use it 👍
Nice straight-forward review with some good tips.
I have the Makita drill with two batteries so saw this as a reasonable option.
That's exactly what I have done. It makes sense, especially if you already have batteries and a charger!
Good advice steve it looks a nice strimmer xx
Yeah it's really goog!
A good honest review, that's what we like :)
Thanks for your comment 👍
Thanks fella
No problem, I hope you found it useful 😀
Remember to put your safety glasses on before your ear defenders 😂. Good review of the strimmer 🤜
Yeah I realised after 🤣🤣🤣
just got one spot on
I was really impressed with mine, thanks for your comment 👍
Dunno if this makes me a muppet but I look forward to your new videos!
Lol, that's good to hear! I have struggled in the last few weeks due to ill health, but I'm better now, so I've got some good videos coming out in the coming weeks related to garden projects!
Well you've broken my Mrs, already did the trimming and lawn edging yesterday morning after a mow. Looks a good bit of kit. I've got very similar with stihl. Can't find what I'd done with the shoulder strap though. Perhaps it's on one of her bags haha.
Lol, there must be some bag 🤣. It's a really good strimmer and reasonably priced. Thanks for your comment 👍
@@FixitwithFowler you know what they are like with bags and the kitchen sink.
I always like putting my stuff in the wifes bag, saves me carrying it!
Hi i am going to buy a makita but i don't know which one ,181 or a 190 any ideals
What type of tool is it?
@@FixitwithFowler hi its q 18 volt handheld garden small trimmer. I have since found out that dur 193 is the replacement for the old model dur 181
Oh right, well I'm really impressed with mine, which is the dur193. Let me know how you get on with it if you buy one!
Looked a little under powered.
It may look it, but i have been using it regularly since my review, and I can honestly say it isn't. However, if I was comparing the power of those to a mains powered strimmer, then it isn't as powerful, but then again, it won't be.
Ear defenders for an electric strimmer 😂 really 🙄
Well, I had comments on my last video about ppe, and according to the instructions, they are recommended. So, to please the audience, I complied with the instructions (for the video) at least!
Every time I stop my Makita 18V LXT string trimmer, the head spins off. I cannot figure out how to tighten it enough for it to stay on every time I stop my string trimmer. The 3yr warranty just ran out. Any ideas on how I can fix it?
Oh no, that's not something I've come across. Have you tried contacting makita direct, they are normally really good
like a bellend i bought the black and decker one purely bcoz i had a spare battery from the drill i bought from lidl back in 2021. which also had a charger. remember when they had the drill, battery and charger for 45 quid? well ide bought that. so 3 years later ide started a gaedening business. (bought loads of makita tools labouring and ended up with 10 batteries.
so when ide bought the shit black and decker strimmer, i wasnt aware that makita made gardening kit.
the reason why i think the black n decker strimmer at 90 quid is shit is bcoz the battery takes 4 hours to charge fully. and what do you get out of that 4 hours? 20 minutes ON ECO MODE!! not a good deal that is it? however, 20 mins charging the makita battery on a makita charger gives u 20-40 mins usage. seem like a no brainer.
so im selling the black and decker drill, 2 batteries and charger, and also a corded black n decker strimmer and just bought the makita 18v strimmer.
my gardening jobs are increasing. gaining more n more customers every week. so.....i now have the makita 18v for small lawn jobs and went out n bought the makita petrol strimmer for large lawn jobs (where there are no windows close by LOL.
last year i bought the makita 36v mower too. thats a decent bit of kit for small to medium lawns but i worked it out..... going through 2 batteries each time, then whipping them onto the double charger, and using another 2 fully charged batteries.... over the months ile be draining their capacity very quick...and at 60-70 quid each.......i decided to buy a petrol mower. finally got my tools tweaked down to efficiency.
Oh and i bought the makita telescopic hedge trimmer too. hardly use it but its decent tool!!
hope my massive story helped someone make sense of gardening jobs hahaha
Hi, thanks for your comment and I hope my Makita strimmer and Makita hedge trimmer review have helped with your decision to get Makita kit. I'm really impressed with mine but went for a petrol lawnmower as our lawns are quite big.
