The parking garage attendants were actually really good with him and tried to be helpful, its refreshing to hear people trying to help rather than shooing someone off who “looks homeless or needs help”
Just a question - did they call the police?
@@paulascharff3534 That might fit into the category of "shooing off". Calling the cops instead of trying to lend a helping hand.
I think they were very helpful n may have considered calling the police as well.

Been waiting for one of the true crime youtubers to cover this case!! So sad 😔
There's a phenomenon called "terminal burrowing" that is sometimes experienced by people in the final stages of hypothermia. It's an involuntary compulsion to stuff yourself into a tight space. If he had been having a manic episode that caused him to experience paranoia and run around outside for hours in the middle of winter, it is very possible that he became hypothermic and crawled into the dumpster because of the burrowing compulsion. Such a tragic story.
Very tragic, but what you say sounds logical. I'm from the upper east coast and that time of year is freezing cold. In his state of mind, he could have simply been trying to get warm. Very sad for him and his family. I hope they get answers one day.
Early this seems the most likely scenario.
Oooo
That is sooo sad to think about.
I had no idea that was a thing! It makes me think of that little girl who ran away from a care facility
As someone who is also Bipolar 1 I fully believe the dumpster theory. Manic episodes can be scary and that theory could have definitely happened during an episode
Sending love and good vibes to both of you. I grew up with an amazing Bipolar mother. I hope you both have strong support systems.
The most tragic part of this story, for me personally, is how such an accomplished, intelligent man was paradoxically destroyed by his own mind. Sad.
He wasn't destroyed by his own mind. According to the autopsy, he was literally beaten to death and the medical examiner said it was a clear murder.
Yes, indeed.
It reminds me a lot of the way Elisa Lam's last moments were captured on security cameras. Erratic, irrational, clearly confused and thinking that people are chasing after them or want to harm them, seeking shelter in places where you're not supposed to be. They both were struggling with BP. Lam's case was deemed a psychotic break - I suspect the same thing happened to Jack. When someone is in a manic episode or in a depressive episode of their bipolar disorder, they can fall into a psychosis. I wish we, as a society, were more aware of the signs of a psychosis and could look out for those experiencing it who are completely disoriented and defenceless in these moments. Someone should have gotten in touch with his family. A person experiencing a psychotic episode is truly asking for help, but they don't know how to because of their delusion. It's incredibly heartbreaking.
That theory doesn't make sense with the autopsy and how the body was found. He was literally beaten to death and the medical examiner said it was a clear murder.
I thought the same thing - it reminded me of Elisa Lam! Unfortunately, his bipolar finally got him, I say.
That poor attendant seemed so emotional I hope she doesn’t feel guilt or sadness poor baby.

While I do recognize this kind of manic behavior, myself having a now adult daughter with Bipolar I, I guess my question would be - were all of his injuries sustained postmortem or antimortem? They have to have that information from the autopsy right? 🤔
due to the cause of death being blunt force trauma i assume the injuries they’re referring to are antimortem but it would be interesting to know if there are any postmortem injuries
This case has always perplexed me and sadly I don’t think anyone will ever have concrete answers. RIP Jack.
I agree. I hadn’t heard of it until his story was told on Unsolved Mysteries, but I’ve been perplexed and researching since then. I feel that we won’t have any concrete answers either, although I wish we would.

This poor man definitely had Alzheimer's. The first indicator to us my aunt had it was her losing her car and not remembering how she got home. All the random locations he went to were probably earlier memories. The brain is a strange thing. I also think this may not have been an intentional murder. In that state he could have picked a street fight (due to his paranoia) and gotten beaten up and hes older so his body couldnt handle it.
I disagree. My grandma has Alzheimer's and it's been a slow decline over at least a decade now and is now at the point where she's mentally in a different decade, but we could tell what was going on even early in her decline. I think his family would have recognized that something was going on long before he started acting the way he did that night if Alzheimer's was the culprit.
Also, I forget where I park constantly and get turned around really easily. Some people just don't have good spatial memory/awareness 🤷♀️
@@k3upikachu it doesn't present the same in everyone from what I've understood! I'm glad your grandma's has been a slow decline, I'm sending good vibes!
Also, you're right I've lost my phone and it's in was my pocket.. so that's fair 🤣 the situation just reminded me of my Aunts bc that was the day she went from "normal" to calling my mom my grandmas name 😭 we really saw no warning signs.
If I may ask also, does it run in your family? My aunts mother also suffered from alzheimers, and it came on at the same age.
I agree with you. I’ve just been through very similar with my Grandmother (started with the car) and progressed so incredibly quickly (a few weeks).it’s the first thing I thought watching this.

Assuming his statement is correct, I wonder why someone would steal Jack's briefcase and not rob him of his cash and watch 🤔 What was in that briefcase? Did it have anything to do with his death? Is this why he seemed to be hiding out? So many questions!
The victim should've been more careful.
Was his briefcase ever recovered?
Rich people typically don’t need more cash, but there clearly was something more valuable than cash inside that briefcase.
Well, i would asume it's easier to steal someones briefcase, while robbing someone often goes hand in hand with some sort of confrontation, which might be more risky. But considering the state he was in, i don't think he would have been really perceived as a threat by a robber.
The wife may have had something to do with it, it did seem that way.

@@fsheld5058 I don’t think we should be so quick to place blame on the victim, we don’t know what happened! If it was the case he was likely in a manic episode where it’s difficult to think rationally
These cases are so sad and frustrating! Praying his family and friends get answers. Can’t imagine going through this. It’s so bizarre I’m not sure what I think happened. I think it could have been a manic episode which resulted in an accident. Otherwise, I lean towards murder for hire.
0
O
I was hoping you would cover this case. I actually rewatched this episode of Unsolved Mysteries last night, since this case has been on my mind. My sister was also diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and has displayed similar odd or unexplainable behavior when suffering from a manic episode. I believe he suffered from an unfortunate accident as a result of his mental state. It can be hard to understand the struggles of family members with mental health issues. I hope his family can find peace.
Maybe it was a combination of both. Maybe he was being followed and stalked and he knew it and got super paranoid. Between that and the fight with his wife could have triggered a manic episode and the heart attack and the people or person took advantage in that moment and killed him before throwing him in the dumpster.
That's what I think to be honest. I'm Bipolar and if someone was following and stalking me, it would definitely triggered an episode for me.. Even just simple stress situations set me off, I can't imagine what would happen if someone was following me trying to hurt me.
Kinda sad it's the last episode of the year! But can't wait for all the upcoming episodes next year 💙👽

@@fsheld5058 no victim is ever to blame
@@mickey41991 right! I’m so confused why so many people are commenting this?
@@kaitlynmaria751 because they have nothing better to do then blame the victim
It’s also suspected that Elisa Lam‘s bipolar disorder led to her willingly getting into the water tank on top of the Cecil Hotel and accidentally drowning there. I think we only have to look at her case to realize mental health crises can lead people to some strange and sometimes fatal places. I think it’s definitely possible that Jack put himself in that dumpster and either died of a heart attack there or died from trauma during transport to the landfill. Extremely sad case. I hope the family can find closure.
I think it’s pretty clear why he went to a lawyer’s office, especially since a lot of people assume he was responsible for smoke bombing the neighbor’s home. He just committed a crime, and had just enough logic to realize he should probably get a lawyer, which led him there.
I’m glad you mentioned the dumpster theory. It’s the first thing that came to my mind and I truly believe it happens waaaay more than people would ever imagine.
I really don’t think anyone killed Jack. I believe this was an unfortunate accident. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Ye dont agree with the title of this

I find it so odd that this prestigious man was asking strangers for rides. He knew he had money. However refused a taxi or hotel ? Why? Who was he hiding from?. Why did the parking garage not call the cops for him. ? You have a man walking around, with his shoe. Said he was robbed , clearly not homeless. He could have got medical help. Why did he refuse help ? So sad and confusing. I hope they find answers.

Really weird story...but as an RN, I'm leaning towards the manic episode circumstance. Very sad and unfortunate outcome and my thoughts and prayers to the family.
I love y'all's voices honestly!
Did Jack have dementia
the confusion and constant confusion with directions leads me to think potentially alzheimer’s which triggered a manic episode because he was panicking … him and his family are in my thoughts 🤍
I was thinking exactly that too. Idk if he had Alzheimer’s though? If he didn’t I’m at a loss.
I agree!! All the traits of Alzheimer’s
But how did he die!!!! I know he had a heart attack but the circumstances were weird. I don’t think it was murder imo but anything’s possible
My grandma has bipolar 1 and because of her age, people have often mistaken her being in a manic episode for alzheimer's. She definiely does not have alzheimer's, and I think it's probably the same in Jack's case. Manic episodes can cause an extreme amount of confusion and distress, especially if you're having delusions and/or hallucinations. It was probably made a lot worse by him not having his wife and family around during an episode to keep him in touch with reality. Either way it's so sad and tragic :(
Both, I believe, took place. I believe he was murdered and was suffering from a mental breakdown at the time. It may seem simple to rule out someone who has mental health difficulties, especially serious ones that induce breakdowns, but I feel it makes the person an easier target for cover-up. A criminal may realize that targeting someone suffering from manic episodes will make it easier to hurt them because they are unable to think straight.

A well deserved “break!” See you next year! Don’t work too hard :-) ✨✨
I think he had a manic episode or a mental break which caused him to panic and to hide or find shelter in the dumpster which was the cause of his death, had a heart attack, or possibly had hypothermia.
I believe if he did throw the smoke bombs and leave his phone, this caused a manic episode. He left after Christmas to get away from the crime to figure out how to explain why his phone was there. He then tells everyone that his things were stolen so he can say the robber left the phone there. As his episode got worse so did his paranoia. Didn't want emergency help and tried to get a lawyer when he wasn't even in trouble at that time. Sad story.

I know this comment really has no substance, or importance to the video, but I can’t be the only one who was taken aback by how handsome he was in the earlier photos.
My first thought was that he was probably cold and tired and climbed into the dumpster, had a heart attack and received the injuries by being dumped into the truck and compacted. Such a tragic story.

Serious question: Why not even a community post update?
He reported his phone and briefcase stolen to Mitre before he left his house. He had lost the phone himself (left it at the house he smoke bombed), it seems logical that he had also done something with the briefcase himself before he even left his house.
I think he was having a manic episode which got worse and worse because he wasn't taking his meds. I think his death was a tragic accident. His widow probably has guilt over the argument and is looking for another reason to explain what happened.

I made a similar comment on a video on Kendal Rae's channel. The Tracy Thurman story would be interesting to hear you cover. There's a reenactment movie about her life -- I think it was in the 1990's, with Nancy McKeon (I misspelled her name in my other comment, I apologize). I hope you will consider looking into it. It's not a mystery or an unsolved case. It's just a crazy story.
He knew something he shouldn’t have known. People in high places took care of the situation, as they do.
Also, maybe he knew he was in danger. Hence leaving his wife early, not attending the wedding etc
"The weeks are long and the years are short"
Anything is a possibility, we truly do not know what happened. I really do believe in the manic episode theory though, especially with all the triggers he experienced prior to his death. I just think it’s very hard for his family to believe and accept the fact that Jack died due to his mental health. It’s a lot easier to believe that someone hurt him than it is to believe that his mind was the reason for his own demise.
Dr. Todd Grande does a very good case analysis on Jack Wheeler.
