Glad you like it man. Take your time and listen to the songs and let them fill you up. When you get the chance and are introduced to them more, go for the big boys. Poet and the Pendulum live at Wembley ( with lyrics ) and "Greatest Show on Earth". You will love them both.
If you are wanting to compare, I would do Ghost Love Score or Ever Dream from the End of an Era show. Tarja is a wonderful singer, but definitely has her niche and you'll see it pretty much immediately. Where we can place Floor into almost any Nightwish song from any point in their life as a band, it is fairly impossible to do so for previous singers.

This is my favorite song! One song you may want to do to hear Tarja and then Floor would be Everdream. Tarja does Ghost Love Score at the End of an Era show as well as Everdream.
If you would like to hear just Marco sing you should do High Hopes a Pink Floyd song that Nightwish did a cover of. This song is amazing!
It is at the End of an Era show also. A couple of songs he has done that are Nightwish songs are Master Passion Greed, which there is only the studio version because they never did it live. And The Islander live at Tampere. I hope this helps! :-)

Good song to hear the difference between all 3 singers is Ever Dream. Pretty sure there’s live recordings of all 3 out there and they all highlight what each singer is capable of.
Phantom of the opera with Tarja is probably the best to check her voice quality (and also Marko who makes a duet with her).

:smiles: Tarr Ya is a rough guide to how to pronounce the original singer of the bands name. She was more high register operatic in her tone - quite beautiful to hear (and very easy on the eye too :O) but she didn't have the range or the raw awesomeness that Floor has. Anette was a more 'trad' rock singer and, again, very good ... buuut she didn't have the range or the raw awesomeness that Floor has :D. The stock phrase is that most singers sing what they can ... Floor sings what she wants :).
Tarja’s name is pronounced Tar-e-ah. Love her voice too. Most will recommend the Phantom of the Opera, but one of my favorites from the Tarja era is Deep Silent Complete live. Tarja has a whole different aura than Floor and commands the stage in her own special way.

You're very perceptive, there are moments in this song at least, when the heaviness of the instruments are opposed to the softness of Floor's vocal approach, giving us the feeling of surreal/nonreal. Containing the constant add of energy, like a barrage containing the water flow of a river. And I like it. Suppose I'm some kind of monster myself too..

Ghost Love Score is a constant in their setlists ever since and will enroll the differences between NW's three front ladies. If so start with Anette, Tarja next and finally Floor for some kind of progression 😋
P.S. just add the year, e.g. "Ghost Love Score 2009" or else for Anette's version...2005 had been Tarja's "End of an Era" recordings

Listen to Slaying the dreamer from End of an era concert, its with Tarja and i would consider that time period peak of Nightwish.

The high notes you hear are a choral backtrack. NW uses a full orchestra and choir when recording but for practical purposes uses a backtrack of that for live performances. 😁
People forget that was Floors first concert, she joined the band couple of days before. UNBELIVABLE.

She joined mid tour when the previous singer was fired. There's a documentary about it called "Please learn the set-list in 48 hours".
Truth is, the previous singer, Annette, needed to take time off to haver her baby. So they asked Floor to fill in for the rest of the tour. Things took a different turn when Annette got sick shortly before a concert ("Denver Debacle") and had to be rushed to a hospital. The band didn't want to send the fans home, so they performed a short set without Annette but with help from the singers of the opening act. Annette was not pleased about this and it resulted in the breakup. So they called Floor to join one or two months earlier than planned.
This show is from the end of that tour, and definitely not their first show together. Annette left in October 2012, this show is from July or August 2013.

You should do a double feature with the song 'Amaranth' by Nightwish. First the music video with Annette, then Live at Wacken 2013 with Floor. It's so awesome to experience that song in those two ways.

Great reaction! Tarja's Nemo, Dark Chest of Wonders, Everdream, Sleeping Sun, Planet Hell... Hey all of the End of an Era DVD. She is phenomenal, but different of Floor, she us more theatrical and operatic. Floor is an stage monster. There are no comparision, they are two sublime performer, although in different ways.

Best song to hear the difference between Tarja and Floor is Sleeping Sun. Tarja (ruclips.net/video/E_RRMRXJWxI/видео.html) and Floor (ruclips.net/video/pVPTUEW1PEM/видео.html). They are both fantastic and while the nonsense of who is better has died down, Tarja was the signature sound for Nightwish from 1996 to 2005. Floor bring more range and power to the band now so they have more opportunities to explore different sounds from Ballads, Folk Metal, Metal and even some Pop!!

As far as comparing singers. There's none. Each has their own sound an style. Floor has the most versatile in sound an styles.

This is coming from a not so die hard Nightwish fan: I'd recommend listening to Nemo, Wish I had an Angel, End of All Hope, Over the Hills and Far Away, Ever Dream and Sleeping Sun. A few picks from Nightwish's more popular songs with Tarja. Go with the studio versions. Others are welcome to add songs to this list :)
If you are interested in other bands playing this kind of music you can also take a look at Epica lead by the beautiful redhead named Simone Simons. A great song to start with would be "Chasing the dragon" live at their "Retrospect" live dvd were they were supported by a full symphonic orchestra and choir. This song will give a nice impression of the range of the vocalist and the band itself. It starts as a kind ballad but will slowly build-up to a true symphonic metal song. I think it is a lot of fun to watch when you reactors do an occasional comparison of the different singers doing the same song. There's prob'ly quite a few of us who really enjoy that. I will echo Brock O'Meles comment from below that "Ever Dream" is an excellent choice for comparison. --->
Floor's version from this Wacken 2013 concert is prob'ly considered the gold standard for Ever Dream by most people, and, as always, Floor performs everything flawlessly!! --->
For first singer Tarja's original version of Ever Dream definitely use the one from the "End of an Era" concert in 2005 at the Hartwall Arena. Personally, I think Floor rules almost across the board with everything with only two or three exceptions. Ever Dream is one of them. I give Tarja the edge with this one just because I take Ever Dream to be a gentle and soft emotional song (just my personal interpretation) and Tarja delivers the final two closing choruses with great tenderness in her voice...a much more gentle delivery...that maintains the opening mood of the lyrics. In Floor's interpretation, she winds out the two closing choruses with her typical high energy, belting, Floorgasm lung power. That is an absolutely perfect ending for most Nightwish songs, but for me it disrupts the tender mood of the story and produces a different and discordant type of emotion that clashes with that tenderness. Just my humble opinion. --->
I think there is at least one version of Annette doing Ever Dream live, and unless I'm thinking of a different song by mistake, it was very difficult and almost painful to watch. It starts out OK and looks very promising, but as it gets toward the end it is clear she is really struggling to keep in tune. I don't want to sound like I'm discouraging you from watching it. You may have a different opinion from mine. I'm just saying that it might be unfair to Annette to have that be one's only impression of her. My recommendation is to supplement it later on with some of her most highly recommended studio album songs where she excels at her best. --->

I did some research for you if you really wanna make a deep dive to the Nightwish ocean. Just for the Hell of it you should compare Song of Myself to the album version. It was sung by Anette but I personally think it was one of her better performances. And the album version has the speech part based on Walt Whitman poems. It might not be for everybody but for me it makes the song complete.

If you want to compare Tarja and Floor you should compare the versisions of Ghost love score and Sleeping sun. Both are songs written for Tarja but the first is now a Floor song and the second one Tarja does better in my opinion.

One thing I always wish for all reaction videos is that you don't pause the video. Pausing is something I can tolerate (still upvoted), but I would like you to take it all in first in real time, then return to the details at the end. I think it would be more natural (almost like in a live concert) than pausing.

Sorry to be late, but I just had to watch all the new official releases from labels like Napalm Records, Nuclear Blast Records, Sumerian Records, Metal Blade Records, Frontiers Music, Century Media Records etc.. Since everything relevant has most likely already been said by others, I'll just thank you & wish you an enjoyable journey deeper into the wonderful music of Nightwish.

I do not agree with suggestions to compare singers by listening to Ever dream. Tarja originally sang Ghost love score, but Floor made it her own, it just suits her better, but Ever dream is Tarja's song, as well as Phantom of the opera and Walking in the air. Yeah, I here ya about Hip Hop. I can't listen to that stuff much either. I turn on Hip Hop Nation on XM radio and after about 30 seconds I've had enough. The bass drops are cool for a little bit, but other than that the lyrics are usually disgusting "nigga this...nigga that" and I just turn it off. Metal on the other hand has always been much more of musician leaning style of music. Metal is nothing more than Classical Music (instrumentals) blended with Blues (lyrics and mood) using modern musical instruments (guitars, keyboards, and drums instead of violins, cellos, and brass instruments) and technology (electronic tuning and processing, etc)
