World-First ‘Back to the Future’ Research Set To Boost Pandemic Protection

We’re proud to shine a spotlight on a project, supported by Wesley Research Institute, that aims to revolutionise our approach to protecting children and young adults in future health crises. Professor John Fraser, Associate Professor Kirsty Short, and other team members will analyse historical Spanish Flu lung tissue, seeking to uncover how diseases have impacted younger populations in past health crises. With the aid of cutting-edge technology at the Queensland Spatial Biology Centre (QSBC), housed within our Institute, the team is eager to conduct spatial phenotyping on an unprecedented scale.​
By 2025, this initiative promises to deliver actionable insights that will be instrumental in shaping health policies and improving pandemic preparedness for children and young adults.​
