Yes. Id simply reused whatever existing sprites there were for the SS from Wolfenstein for the Doom 2 secret levels, hence the lack of attacking sprites besides from the front.
I always thought the SS soldiers were saying, "I'm leaving!!" when they died. I now know what they're really saying, but 10 year old me always heard "I'm leaving!!" and it never left me. 😂
Love this channel since I found it. Every think about doing teams? Bosses vs regular enemies, demons vs former humans, SMM and Arachnatrons vs something else, pinkies vs everybody? Could be really fun
They're not actually attacking the spectator, they just don't have sprites for attacking in other directions, so it looks like they are attacking the spectator.
^ Infighting wasn't a thing in wolfenstien 3D so there was no reason for enemies to have a firing sprite facing the other directions. They were quickly recycled and left mostly unchanged (they have a slower fire rate than they did in W3D) when they were brought over into D2.
If you give the SS enough numbers, they will just kill themselves. Cacos don't damage other cacos, but thats not the same with the SS their aim is also not the best. It happens several times in this video too, when a caco charged into the middle, the SS at the edge were just teamkilling each other.
Is there any way you would be able to branch out into DOOM64 demons? I'm simply curious if it is possible to do that. I know Nintendo 64 games are a pain to emulate.
@@hiimuziwannaplay2497 I'm not sure actually. Another RUclipsr, Decino has done a comparison on the DOOM 64 demons vs DOOM(2). He is a really cool creator to watch too.
Because Doom never made a sprite for these guys shooting from any other angle. The only existing sprites are "shooting towards the player", so no matter where they'll shoot, the game will animate the only shooting sprite it has - facing forward.
So ... Regardless of the position of the current target, SS just have one sprite for attacking which is facing you?.

Yeah, Wolfenstein didnt have infighting, so there was no reason to have attacking animations from behind.
There’s a sprite fix mod (the same one Decino uses) that grants the SS the other firing frames.
Didn't need anything else back then.
@@SvendleBerries Or co-op.
I could listen to tht MIEN LIEBEN clip all day!
I think it's "Mein Leben" which means "My life". No native speaker say or said that while dying. 😅
"Mein Gott, ich will nicht sterben!"
"Shoe Shuffle!"
"I'm leavin'!"
:)
@@coolnut99 It may be "Schutz-Staffel", better known by its abbreviation "SS".
@@ddeml I know. I thought they were yelling "SHOE SHUFFLE!" when I first played Wolfenstein as a kid.

You should have used that wad fix with complete rotational sprites for the SS.
huh. i never realized that the WSS doesn't have rotations for the firing animation
That’s because in Wolfenstein 3D infighting was not a thing. Also there’s a sprite fix mod that adds the other firing frames.
Why are half of the SS soldiers attacking the spectator? Kind of an unfair advantage to have the Cacos attack them from behind lol

Give the SS enough numbers, Caco's 50% pain chance was biting it in the ass here.
It's not just the pain chance. Cacos have also 500ms of pain time, the reason why Chaingun and Plasma are very effective against them.

Basic warfare of course, but back then computers couldn't do better. A modern source port would, though.
It would be great if you added a table of overall matchup details at the end.
Nightmare difficulty is aptly named here; an SS victory would indeed be a nightmare. Cacos are good boys ♡
Maybe a stupid question but what sourceport allows to spectate? With which command? Or you use a wad? Thanks
Multiplayer ports like Skulltag, but this one looks like he's doing invisible HUD + Fly

i play now in D64 on switch and infighting is weird there, cacodemon can't fight with barons lol
@@hiimuziwannaplay2497 If I recall right individual enemies are flagged to never infight, the mapmakers overused it in D64.

TIL the SS Nazi only has the forward-facing attack sprite
Cyber demon vs pain elemental plis:)
The SS would win every time if they'd just stop wandering into each other's line of fire.
Welcome to id's default monster AI.
Again, why are doing that shooting at us animation if their enemy is already there in the arena? Cant even tell who's who they're shooting at😓

There are no (official) SS sprites attacking besides these facing the camera.
