Doom Retro Battles involves several Doom and Doom 2 battles, a fight club or battle simulator of sorts, between various units and unit compositions, each with different variations such as weapons, numbers, difficulty levels like Ultra-Violence and Nightmare, etc.

When I saw "60 vs 300" i just lol'ed. GG has had a lot of fun making these.

Not gonna lie, I expected a much more devastating defeat for the revenants. Nice to see them hand it to turbo pinkies on at least one occasion.

That last battle (100 revs vs 1000 pinkies, nightmare): Islands of revenants amongst a sea of pinkie demons! 👌👌
I cant believe they came out of top of that so well.
Turbo pinkies probably would have won first Nightmare round if they didn't split up near the end. The horde must move as one! The damage output of the Revenant is no joke though. They completely dominated UV. I was _really_ impressed by the 60 v 300 round when they only lost 2.

So what I'm thinking is happening here is that when there's a lot of revenants, the pinkies can't reach the target they want and so run around doing nothing much of the time. A revenant will fire, hit a pinkie, aggro it, that pinkie will aggro it back, and they will fight but because it's 1v1 the revenant wins. As the number of revenants goes down, however, the pinkies are more likely to reach their target and the revenants start to get overpowered.
On nightmare, pinkies reach their targets and kill them much more quickly, and when revenants aggro a pinkie they take much more damage.
Also, if a revenant dies, it's very bad for them as all the pinkies that were targeting that particular revenant will switch to a nearby target, and they start ganging up. That cascades quickly.
That -seems- to be what's happening.
Yeah the AI had a big limitation here.
Why hordes of Nightmare Pinkies aren't to be taken lightly.
EDIT: LOL at the additional Pinkies coming down from the lowering barrier at 100 vs 1000.

Its quite funny to see how is it that in the last battles, there are so many pinkies to the point where those that aren't in the frontlines stay just wainting their turn.

The behavior of monsters on ultra violence is very different from nightmare. It is noticeable how on ultra violence any kind of monsters are trying to move into a close encounter. On nightmare, the monsters try to attack from a distance, not get close.

It's funny how frail a pinkie is when it looks so muscular and heavy of frame.
Pinkies are no joke, they just are power crept by Revenants which like most Doom 2 enemies, is a little bit overtuned compared to Doom 1 enemies

I'd be interested to see some kind of mathematical modeling of these fights to predict outcomes. Or, after each fight, show a calculation that makes the next fight more fair. So for example if 80% of one side survives, then it was an imbalanced fight. Is there some way to use that 80% value as input into a model that predicts what a more even fight would be?

Why the hell does the back line of Pinky's at the start turn round run to the back wall then come back? They waste so much time doing that😅
I really appreciate these videos, but I just don't understand the testing. Why not do a simple 1v1 on both difficulties and try to work out how many it takes to beat a monster(1v2 / 3 etc.) Then go into the larger battles?
