Hey guys- we got this one done sooner than anticipated. We didn't want to compromise on quality so it's been grueling to get through our full testing routine as quickly as we did, and a few small things fell through the cracks: -For safety, the live fire indoor testing was performed with the adjustable valve tuned to a very low 50-100fps (0.02-0.09J) and firing into a soft backstop to minimize risk of ricochet. Normally we wear (and always recommend) eyepro for any live fire testing. -While only one gun is examined in detail in the video, we’ve gotten our hands on 3 VFC AKs so far and checked each one for QC issues. The second had a single canted front trunnion rivet, and the third required gas block realignment, but that’s it. -At various points we describe the gun as having about 10K rounds through it, but at one point we instead specify 9K. Filming was ongoing as the script was being finalized, and that line slipped through the cracks, so we apologize for the inconsistency. The gun was at just over 10K rounds at time of filming. -Contrary to the voiceover, the trigger guard rivets are actually fake. There are small screws on the inside of the receiver, hidden under the valve knocker assembly, that secure them. They’re visible as 03-25 on the parts diagram. -In the video we suggested a thin grease for lubricating the magazine valve stem rear o-ring. A grade 0 grease would be ideal, or mixing Super Lube 21030 and 51004 in equal proportions will work. If thin grease is unavailable, oil will suffice, but we are not yet sure if it may need reapplication eventually or if it will wear in and function indefinitely. -The selector is capable of skipping past the stop plate (past the semi-auto position) if pushed downwards sharply. So far this has not caused any problems in the field, but we’ll keep you posted if that changes. Filing the ‘nub’ on the selector lever so that it sits a little closer to the receiver would solve this. -Also, if the selector comes loose, there is a single screw on the inside of the receiver that secures it, which can be tightened. This hasn’t been an issue for us so far, but we’ve seen at least one report online. -If the shooting test at the 100ft target seems less impressive than the voiceover implies, it’s because our videographer has not yet realized he can record shooting tests /before/ completely rebuilding the gun and spoiling the zero, so a bit of Kentucky windage was in play. The one-shot kills in the intro ought to give a better sense of stock capabilities and justify our praise. Thanks all for your support, and we’ll update this comment with any new developments.
Not sure if you knew about Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black and Presto Mag (Steel) which darken bare metal to black. I use it on all my airsoft and real steel for perfect touch-ups. It sucks that its impossible to remove the sling looped handguard retainer and I cannot use my SLR handguard that is not sling loop cut, but the Strike Industries Trax fit well.
Ok I'm at the point where I will not buy an airsoft gun unless you guys do a review on it. Every single minute of this video has genuinely useful info. Absolutely love how you guys actually have the data to explain parts compatibility. This is almost certainly going to be my next purchase
I've been waiting for this review. Super interested in VFC's take on the AK. Also - is the GoPro hat mount you're using the Brain Exploder one? Looks like Shapeways went out of business so I don't know how to get one now haha.
Unfortunately not; it's a homebrewed amalgamation of a GoPro Hero 7 housing (flipped upside down) and hat mount off Thingiverse, with some spacers added to get the right angle. Brainexploder had similar solutions for more modern GoPros but with Shapeways kaput that's dead in the water.
it was truly worth it ditching the m16a2 purchase to get this instead. the mag disassembly and lubrication section is gonna be replayed a lot for sure.
That's pretty mad as I did the same thing. I was online, about to buy an M16 then I saw that the AK and mags were in stock. I've never emptied my wallet quicker. Now is UK customs would stop dicking about and clear it then I'll be happy.
@@WIldXIII seems like a lot of UK and EU buyers have had their orders toyed with by the couriers. me living in SEA need an importer and we don't have actual tracking of their bulk orders and we're just waiting on them to message us haha, maybe end of October.

If you really want to know if something is Stainless steel or aluminium, drag the edge of a small file over a hidden/ non contacting part; if it bites it's most likely aluminium, if it doesn't it's stainless steel. This is just a casual hardness test, you can buy a set of special hardness testing files/tools that are rated to Rockwell steel grades to find the hardness rating to a degree of 5 Rockwell increments. Just a thought on cleaning any grit out of the trigger box without taking it apart, why not use carb or brake cleaner with it's straw to spray in there then relubricate with oil as you suggested? I'm certified Harley Davidson mechanic and that just makes sense to me.
I'm confused as to why Tokyo Marui didn't make a GBBR AK-74m. The main reason I didn't buy the AKM and instead got the M4 was simply because of the faux wood furniture, I know you can get real wood kits but would have been nice to see an AK with authentic polymer externals!
It's extra strange considering the Saiga is an AK-100 series and shares a lot of receiver and furniture components (dust cover, stock, pistol grip) with the 74M. But who knows what TM might have in the works for the next year or two.
@@NeoMartelstock it lifts .28, and you only need a Xrange 55° bucking to push that to .36 . It outperforms any ghk I had, both in gas efficiency, cold weather resistance, overall reliability and shooting performance. And that's not only my gun.

Gotta love the fact that we are so spoiled with new and awesome GBBR products in recent years that there are enough new releases for a super high quality RUclips channel to dedicate making content for almosy exclusively newly released GBBR models..! (Though VFC is to be thanked for most of this)

great video, thank you! have been waiting for it since the release of the product. I have noticed and think it would be worth bringing to your attention that some BB's richochet off the muzzle brake when you shoot full auto, I have noticed it several times in your performance section, one of these cases is roughly at 29:53, the BB is easily visible. I think it might be a double feed, but it doesn't seem to cause any issue other than loosing a BB (LOL) compared to issues in other systems (jam, possible hop-up damage, gas vent...). So this is more of a minor thing, as there is no significant impact on the reliability, but i am genuinly interested in figuring out how come it doesn't cause any malfunctions.
Good spot, we missed that- for the full auto shooting we dialed the power way down to minimize erosion of the backstop (and general risk from indoor shooting), so it's either a ricochet off the muzzle device as a consequence of extremely low power (50-100fps), or it's a ricochet off the target that just looks weird on video. Either way, we haven't had any such problems in live fire at typical power levels.
Nice gun, but why they made the mag shells out of metal? Same they did with the pmags on ar platform. Its the small detail's, that at least for me are important. I'll wait for the 2024 gen of ghk.

Dream gun from them is definitely the X-M8, so who knows!
We're taking a week-long group vacation next week, so the original plan was to do all the filming and editing afterwards... but we didn't want to leave you guys hanging, so a few grueling eight-hour marathon sessions got it done. We hope it was worth the pain!
man I WANT gbbr but the only field where I can play is outdoors with people using 1.7J full auto aeg/hpa's and it's around 15c for most of the year, and during the winter you get -15c with wind. And I'm a student.

Hi, About installing the nozzle return spring. I have a 417 of vfc with a similar design spring and plug, im using a long thread end for the plug. sticking the thread end through the bolt and the hole perfectly align it and remove the thread end.
Yeah seems like a no brainer once the 105 length comes out. I’ve put well over 1k in a ghk, and a big chunk of that has been correcting flaws. How is the trigger, tolerance on bolt/ receiver rails, and how solid is the dovetail?

It's just ordinary hobby modeling putty, Kneadatite brand. Any epoxy putty ought to work, just stick a blob on, apply a bit of oil so it doesn't stick to the receiver, press the handguard into place, remove and let cure.

Oh damn! VFC AK-74M review, i just got myself GHK AK-74MN like month ago because i don't know if my country sellers could even import this guns, so i have a question that would you do video compare same gun from different brand? (In this case VFC AK-74M to GHK AK-74M).
Not at the moment- they are fundamentally the same gun, real-steel design differences aside. We have gotten our hands on the M16A2 though and were surprised to find that the trigger actually does not have the awful changing pull weight of the real one, so really the choice of A1 vs A2 ought to come down to which one you like the look and ergonomics of more and whether you feel you need auto or can settle for burst. For our money, an A1 with A2 handguards is the best of both worlds.

in my experience real steel saiga AK triggers were also super featherweight light to pull as GHK ones.

Because metal is way better for gas efficiency than plastic. He explains it in his GBB myths video

About installing the nozzle return spring. I have a 417 of vfc with a similar design spring and plug, im using a long thread end for the plug. sticking the thread end through the bolt and the hole perfectly align it and remove the thread end.
Yeah seems like a no brainer once the 105 length comes out. I’ve put well over 1k in a ghk, and a big chunk of that has been correcting flaws. How is the trigger, tolerance on bolt/ receiver rails, and how solid is the dovetail?

What kind of putty did you use for the sport 4? Mine also moves up and down a lot
It's just ordinary hobby modeling putty, Kneadatite brand. Any epoxy putty ought to work, just stick a blob on, apply a bit of oil so it doesn't stick to the receiver, press the handguard into place, remove and let cure.

Oh damn! VFC AK-74M review, i just got myself GHK AK-74MN like month ago because i don't know if my country sellers could even import this guns, so i have a question that would you do video compare same gun from different brand? (In this case VFC AK-74M to GHK AK-74M).

@@opairsoft8100 i did seen video but that is new AKM v3, isn't it? So GHK AK-74M shouldn't have been update/change like new AKM yet.

Are yall planning to do a comparison video to the VFC M16A1 and the M16A2?
Not at the moment- they are fundamentally the same gun, real-steel design differences aside. We have gotten our hands on the M16A2 though and were surprised to find that the trigger actually does not have the awful changing pull weight of the real one, so really the choice of A1 vs A2 ought to come down to which one you like the look and ergonomics of more and whether you feel you need auto or can settle for burst. For our money, an A1 with A2 handguards is the best of both worlds.
