You don't break a mule, the mule becomes accustomed to you, but they don't get broken like horses. You gentle a mule with kindness and it's different. A hint from my Gram who is Native, if you isolate the mule so it wants to reach out to you more, it will be easier. Horses respect authority, mules respect kindness, totally different.
We need to see you, too. There's another channel called Steady Horse, I think. I am from Australia, where on our huge outback cattle stations, Indigenous horsemen are treasured for their fearless, intelligent, intuitive work with horses and cattle. Btw, that is one fine mule you have there.
Shirtless black dude breaking a racing mule is the most American thing I’ve seen this Summer. Love the Superman blinkers and saddle pad! We were at Mt Vernon, in Virginia, last year, they had a bunch donkeys and mules there, they told us Geo. Washington was the first to import donkeys to the USA and breed mules, as a much needed, strong, reliable, docile farm animal. Buster is adorable, I am so impressed with your training style!
I have a mule and he’s so smart and incredible. Once you form a real bond with them they’ll do anything for you. They learn things so fast, they’re not stubborn they’re damn smart and look out for themselves.
I'm a white boy from Kentucky and I had a old black man teach me how to break and train horses he started me on teaser pony's and as I got older he moved me up to yearling race horses that was a life time ago but iv never forgot one thing he thought me his name was mister Barns.
I got to plow a small garden with a mule when I was younger.when I got finished my dad asked me what I thought.I told him thank the Lord for ford tractor
Love it brother. Patience and love. Once the mule accepts you, you're golden but if the trust is not there, you're not getting anywhere near him/her. 👍🏽🤠
Mules are smarter than most people I know. That’s why they are stubborn, and you have to show them why they need to trust you. Once you can do that, you’ve got a friend for life. ❤️
Papaw always said, he'd take two mules over 10 horses. He was plowing one day when his jenny flopped her butt down and would not get back up. So he got a burlap sack, put it on her head, and she jumped up. He kept that sack in her harness. She never quit before it was time anymore. Sure footed for sure...
very cool to see a black cowboy for a change....this is what the up coming youth of today need....not all of the getto crazy shit !! what we all need is a good example : MRS. CANDICE OWENS...2024 and folks like this gent. cowboyatheart82 !!
A mule is hard to break, I miss breaking horses. I thought about bull riding, but once I broke my first horse, I said no this is it for me. I like your breaking saddle, it’s really sharp looking.
I do admire mules. I rode a good deal as a girl in Colorado, and the stable owner always rode mules. They are incomparable on mountain trails, and such interesting personalities.
I have ridden mammoth donkeys, mules, horses. They are very different. I prefer mules now and that’s what I ride. I get far better results by being a kind attentive person who pays attention to her health and comfort. I’m slow and steady and not loud. That doesn’t mean I let her run all over me but when I want something or don’t want something behaviorally I never use force but just slow and steady paying attention to little signals that communicate with her, like body language. I try to be as consistent as possible so she knows what to expect. When I first got the mule I now have (about 10 years ago) she was well trained but nervous, jumpy, scared of hands, spray bottles, tools, even rocks or down logs when we rode in the mountains. She has none of those problems now. Not one of those issues did I address by breaking or forcing but by patience, repetition, consistency. I don’t even have to worry about her getting loose on the trail anymore because if she does I just walk away and she follows and then comes to me. She and I are friends now and even when something unexpected happens like a wolf encounter we had a few years ago, she gets a little nervous etc., but stays the course and I am able to handle her safely because she trusts me. I’m 73 years old and have no desire to try to hang on or control a large animal that is fighting to get free. Sorry to sound preachy but earning a mules trust is a lot safer than trying to force them to do anything. One last bit, mules are very smart and do not forget. Some will wait years to get you in a position where they can pay you back and they are very inventive. Good luck.
This guy is worth following. I like his style. Yes i believe in training & not breaking. I also believe in ask, tell, demand too. Start soft & end with soft goes a long way. Ain't no telling what happens in between though hahaha
If you skip a day or two, and they revert back, they never understood you in the first place. They just complied as though they were a hostage. Please do not take this as an offense. But something for you to think about. On the positive side, the mule was better off when you were in his left eye. For him to be better off where he sees you the most is a good thing. I have seen plenty horses and mules that were better off when you entered their right eye. That just tells you the people that were in their life were doing more damagethan if they had done nothing at all keep it up but recognize there is much better to be had
What last comment said is true they respect & respond to kindness ,if youre mean to it ,it will remember and wait to get the chance to repay your kindness or your disrespect,in kind ..we use to raise and train trail horses and mules ,trust me kindness is the way to go.....BB
Mules are clairvoyant. Kit Carsen knew it, He had learned it from mountain men trappers. When his mule refused to take a certain path Kit did not push the issue but went another route ,the rest is history. In such fashion he avoided hostile Indians.
We had a neighbor to our ranch back when I was in high school who raised racing mules and he had a mammoth jack to breed his mares. I can't remember if my mare got in their pasture or he got in our pasture, but she had a mule that I named Packer. I broke him just like I would any colt. He was smart. He did great when I had him out in the pasture, but when we would get in the pen, that asshole would try to rub me off on the fence. We took him to the mountains in Alpine, TX and he would run circles around horses going up and down those mountains. Great video.
Mules respond good to changing their bits , keeps them guessing, I had a nice 4yr old mare mule that would not stand still always moving around , I put solid iron bit with a copper roller a heavy bit , she stood still on three like a 12yr old first ride out in the spring ??!

My mom was a mule woman and she would agree
@@karenburkhart3717 thanks. I was worried that I over spoke on it. 😊
Interesting. Thanks for sharing.
@evelynbare1975 IMHO you underestimate horses.
wow...awesome education...thank you ...much respect for the NATIVE AMERICAN ...the rest of us owe them much...a lot !!
Black cowboy here in NYC… was just talking to my woman about how I need to see more black horseman on RUclips.. glad I came across your channel…
Indeed. The forgotten wranglers… The real originals.

This is hilarious.
@@whichkatami I heard that King George donated a mammoth jack to Washington.
the superman thing was cool
@@nitemirror1 yes. He was very imaginative. That’s why I love RUclips. You never know what you’re going to find. lol.
I’d say your work speaks for itself! My hats off to you, great job.

Calm demeanor from a trainer. Nice work!

Well done. Its clear you love your horses and mules! To make this happen with kindness and love, hats off to you sir! Well done!
That is one good looking mule. And I really like the way you are gentle while training him. Obviously you know what you are doing.
Love it brother. Patience and love. Once the mule accepts you, you're golden but if the trust is not there, you're not getting anywhere near him/her. 👍🏽🤠
My Grandfather used to break horses and mules in Mississippi and Louisiana. I love what your doing.
Mules are smarter than most people I know. That’s why they are stubborn, and you have to show them why they need to trust you. Once you can do that, you’ve got a friend for life. ❤️
At least you’re smarter than your average American/Harris supporter. Way smarter actually.
Damn. I must be one! 😂❤
I can tell you one hell of a cowboy!! Great job. Keep em coming
Very educational, very clear, no curse words, just a positive vibe
Keep doing what you are doing.....diggin your show!🎉
Well done. I was concerned at first you’d have to do more ground work but the mule was ready. He was just a little nervous. Beautiful long ears.

A mule is a lot safer than a horse to ride in my opinion. Grandad used to say a mule felt the ground with his foot before putting weight on it.
Like your style. Very effective horsemanship !
Nice job, your love for the animal is obvious.
Most folks don't know, black cowboys tamed the west. Good work on that mule.
They take a lot of and a lot of patience and then you have a friend for life
Love the analogy of like a mean woman, well said. Good job with the mule.
She may kill you first though. haha
Man she's beautiful ❤️
very good video. i hope to see more of Buster
Wow. With a racing saddle!! Most impressive!!
REALLY NICE VIDEO, THANK YOU 😊😊
