Great Band.I was in the Marine Corps. And we have major respect for the Aussies. They are some of the best warriors in the world.Thank you for your heroic service....
Thanks mate, did training with you Jarheads, and fought with you wankers in Iraq :-)
Ken Brown onya mate, I'm an Aussie but in the marines DEP, shipping out August 14th to Paris island :))
David Israel Great!.Best wishes to you thank you for your service....
Trevor Weston Thans Trevor.Thank you for your service !!
G'day Ken. Likewise mate.
Barnsey, as a yank and as a Vietnam Nam veteran , this song has brought me peace . Thanks . The Aussies, Kiwis, ANZACS, weren't the only ones lied to .
Comrades in the truth about Vietnam
With you Larry Turner.
We are all lied to. Now we just lie to each other and claim it to be the truth. Now we think the truth is just elusive. We create terms like your truth or my truth. Well there is truth and it can be found.
As an Aussie to a Yank. I trust you are still ok these days. Great Anti Vietnam War Song, I am sure you agree.
@@357HFC ... Well it just offered a human story of a digger struggling post war.
playing this song is the easiest way to find aussies in an international pub/bar or am i ever gonna see your face again by the angels
+Alan Hughes Or Land Down Under (aka the "Vegemite sandwich" song) :)
I live in California now.... if I was at a pub and this came on... God help you all! LOL I'd be singing along, every word at the top of my lungs! LOL
+Alan Hughes small world and im an Aussie lolllllll
+Alan Hughes I'll never forget the first time I realised I was surrounded by people who'd never heard of Khe San. They knew "Beds are Burning" by Midnight Oil, so I couldn't understand it at all. I was doing karaoke on an island near Stockholm with a bunch of Germans, Norwegians and Swedes. They didn't have the music of course, so I just screamed the lyrics. They never asked me to sing again ;)
YES
I'm a 41 year old American now and 3 years after discovering Chisel and Jimmy I'm still ashamed of our record executives and Dj's for not letting us in on this incredible music back when it was new. I'm spreading the word one friend at a time, but we were robbed back in the day.
Chisel themselves didn't quite crack the "American" (US) market , Once they broke up & Barnesy went out on his own , he made a few inroads , including the song titled Movie Working Class Man
Mpercy1964 They reformed recently & have been rocking houses down ever since
I saw the 13th and last concert they ever did as a "Real" band in Sydney 12/12/83 ...Cold Chisel "Last Stand"
I have NEVER seen a better live band and that includes "The Stones" ...or anyone else you would choose to put up against them.
The late 70's & 80's were the halcyon days of Australian rock
Look up Dragon from NZ too mate. Similar story in the US market although in fairness to all, Dragon (like most kiwi bands of their era) were well fucked up on smack at the time!
Warwick I saw Dragon Live on 5 occasions as well as seeing Split Enz ...INXS....and Midnight Oil all before they became big.
Mark Hunter was an excellent front man.
I was actually very disappointed with INXS saw them at Selina's in The Coogee Bay Hotel and didn't think they were that good to be honest...maybe just a bad gig
Also one of the great things that the Student Union at Uni Of NSW organised, was a free 1 hour gig for good bands on the library lawn on Wednesday Lunchtimes
LOL saw the Cockroaches there once
Some members of which became "The Wiggles"
Love how every Aussie know this song by heart, it's an Aussie anthem that's legendary
Thane I hope along with the gusto I hope it also brings consciousness of the sacrifices that so many made for us
Buthead
Boring. Went to Oz in 92, 97, 00 and 06 and they still bloody play it in every bar. Time to move on I think...
Everyone knows it but not many actually know all the words I’d say 90% of most people don’t sing the first line correctly
@@jameseden2286 yet here you are carnt be that boring then
I'm a 38 year old American who discovered Chisel and Jimmy through an Aussie friend just this year. I'm ashamed of our record executives and Dj's for not letting us in on this incredible music back when it first hit. Thank God for the internet. My morning commute's never been so good
Keep listening to all the old and new songs this guy has grunge gravel soul blues rock punk metal heavy metal country all built into his 1 voice..... im a 39 year old kiwi from nz who new about him since i was 6 whos just got back into him 10 years ago been to 11 live concerts what a singer !!!!!!!!!!!!!
HERE HERE. ( They STOOPID in America not too recognise such GREAT TALENT ).
ASSHOLES MUST HAVE BEEN INTIMIDATED. GOOD. WE KEPT OUR BARNSEY AND CHISEL. 👍❤
@@runnyhunny786 too right
@@jasongrowden5000 💯. WE L❤VE OUR HOMEGROWN CHISEL HERE. 👍
I hope you are still commuting or at least still listening to this great... GREAT music👍
"Khe San" great song written by Don Walker and guaranteed to get a whole pub singing along, played it in bands and as a DJ, a classic Aussie rock song, but cleverly poignant, articulate & direct. The Viet vets were not treated with the respect due, by many and had trouble adjusting. My uncle came back a different man, he would ask me to play Khe San or "I was only 19" and he would enjoy it but soon he would go into a quiet, pensive mood almost a depressive state. I soon learnt not to play these to him. Admiration & respect to our Vets, most were called up by their birthdate - conscription.
Sorry about your uncle. Sad to say many men came back broken. Please thank him for his service ..
Respect
+johnnywebb I new a guy who used to fly planes out at Pittsworth..he flew choppers in Nam...quite guy....he was ordered to open fire on a village...you know men women and children.....it haunted him for the rest of his life....
+johnnywebb my twin uncles went to Viet. only 1 came back he was destroyed.... he couldn't speak, he wouldn't move, my dad played this song to him, he never recovered....
johnnywebb Charlie Daniels Band Still in Saigon struck a nerve with my stepfather who was a US Navy assault boat coxswain in Vietnam. His father was a dive bomber pilot flying off aircraft carriers in the Pacific in WW2 .
Imagine being in the crowd. Just imagine the atmosphere with everyone singing along to the song that is practically the definition of Australia.
Not this concert but same tour I was there in Brisbane. Ringside 2003. This was from the Sydney show of the same tour. I was 15 and my Dad took me, first ever concert. He didn't let me leave the stands though! I was keen to get down to the floor. It was fantastic.
Best Aussie song written, EVER.
As a Scotsmen Aussie to Another ... Respect. We all dug our own graves in Fortitude and Integrity...!!!
Celtic Raven meet a bankie I'm stuck in a shitehole called Whyalla SA
Love how every Aussie know this song by heart, it's an Aussie anthem that's legendary
from the aussie heart BEST SONG EVER!!!!
I am a American Soldier in Iraq and was just introduced to this song.... Awesome!!
That’s crazy I found this comment. I’m in Iraq right now. This song is definitely my deployment theme.
I went to a karaoke night in a country town a few days ago. I remembered this song and got a few mates to join me. The whole place joined me.
I’ve so much respect for these magnificent Aussie legends. Thoughts are with Jimmy during his current medical obstacle.
See this is the type of music we don't have anymore....it captures the peoples heart ...bring back good Aussie rock bands to the pubs!
What a masterful performance by the whole band. World class.
Велика песен за всички от 70 години. Велики времена.
Any ANZAC shows at my joint in Phong Nha gets a few free brews and some grub...RESPECT from one brother to another. Paradise Pizza and More - Phong Nha, Vietnam.
Love it!!! Love being an Aussie - naturalised last year after 40yrs in Aust. Love this country.
This song makes me so proud to be an Aussie. When ever i'm away from home on business for extended times, i really miss home every time i hear this song.
I saw Jimmy in Jindy last week, and he was absolutely awesome... His voice is more 50ish than 30ish, but hey, that's what happens to us all....What a legend. He was supported by two fantastic gigs too. Ashton Tremain started and is the next Aussie big thing. Sunroom followed, and if anyone wants to see serious Aussie music, go see these guys... Jimmy rocks.
Singlet guy was loving it
SO SO GOOD!
WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO GROW UP IN AUSTRALIA WITH THIS MUSIC!!!
AWSOME
It's actually against the law to not play this on Australia Day.
yep...there are actually police patrolling to ensure this is played at every bbq.
At least it SHOULD BE!
This and I Was Only 19!
n0v0parr0t sooooo right. I was over at my mates place. We actually begged him soooooooooooooooooo much... just to play this song
Love the chick with the champers.
Best Aussie song written, EVER.
Saw Barnsey today in Perth, legend.
Best Aussie song written, EVER.
bellissimaaaa
from the aussie heart BEST SONG EVER!!!!
Back in the days when no one gave a shit about sticking mobile phones up in your face and just enjoyed the concert
Those days are long gone unfortunately.
+svbassist ,,,,thank goodness
My uncle sailed out of Sydney harbor in 1968 to Vietnam flew back in 69 and although I never got to know him this song makes me remember him ... Thanks barnesy
Oh hell yeah, what a song to wake up to.....Jimmy....Id give anything to see you live again....fantastic song....deep and meaningful....
My Dad loved this song, played it at his funeral ... great song!!
Jim is like wine. His voice is the older the better
Greetings from Poland Mr. Barnes
I'm 19 and I love these guys. My favourite band of all time:) and favourite song. I'm seeing them on the thirteenth of this month:)
Jimmy might have been born in Scotland, but he's an Aussie legend. Nothing can ever take that away from him.
Love how every Aussie know this song by heart, it's an Aussie anthem that's legendary
only the BEST song that Cold Chisel ever made
holy shit i went to school with steve's son. we used to jam together ..this is unbelievable.
his son's a great musician, his spirit and talent lives on.. RIP mate.
I am part of today's generation and I would chose this over today's "radio" music a thousand times over.
only the BEST song that Cold Chisel ever made
One of the best. There were many! :)
It may be in the top 5 english speaking songs of all time. It ranks up there with "like a rolling stone" for honesty.
Love how every Aussie know this song by heart, it's an Aussie anthem that's legendary
Best Aussie song written, EVER.
im 15, i have been brought up with chisel since i was born. i absolutly love the music and im goin to their concert in adelaide in a few months, so excited
If there was ever a song that established a songwriter as among the best, it's Khe Sanh. Don Walker is a magician when it comes to songwriting.
Love the harmonica ❤
❤Happy Birthday Jimmy Barnes, best vocalist of AUSTRALIA..With BON SCOTT (Both from SCOTLAND!!)
I met him when i was working in a thai resturant in byron bay. I was a waiter there, my girlfriend (who worked there as well and was thai) talked to him heaps. Offered her a job in a thai resturant he owns in Adelaide which is my home time...we actually hooked up with him the next day.
This song is my most favourite song. It makes me cry, it makes me happy, it makes me sing, it makes me dance!!
Brilliant!! Everytime this song is played the Aussies spirits lift & it brings a mateship that hits home.
BTW the guy dancing @ 2:16 is class. Great wife beater singlet... :P
jimmy is one of a kind.. and his our's how lucky that voice is a one of a kind!
i met jimmy in person and omg it was dream come true he is a true aussie and a true hero of mine loved jimmy since i was like not even walkin
the orient hotel, sydney oct '99 , first time I heard this song.. always brings a smile to my face, reminds me of the best year of life .. I'll be back there some day..
Brilliant song...never get tired of hearing it.
thats what i love about GREAT classics like this, look in the crowd, look at the age range of people there that are just loving this song, it doesnt matter how old you are, if your aussie, then you LOVE this song
I worked dj in a Aussie bar in ios greece 1992 used to love this song still love it great time was had by all
dont care what any 1 says, i saw him in concert in sydney n he was n still is the best person i have ever seen in concert. Go Jimmy....
1st heard this in the Orient Pub in the rocks in December 1999, brings back great memories, amazing lyrics & song
Nothing better than this . So many memories Thank you
What I really like about this clip is the audience. Many would have seen Chisel many times. Some were not born till well after '73 and some after Chisel split.
Must admit, Ringside is probably the best show I have been to, intimate enough, yet still rocked.
my dad and i love this song it rans through the family and it will never gets old nothings beats this song nothing
I think this song doea great respect to Vietnam vets from America, Oz and all those who died and fought in a hell hole know to all as Nam. Well at least my father loves this song and he usually hates songs about the war. Cheers thanx for posting this
seriously... i just turned 18 and i would rather listen to this music then anything that has come out in my lifetime... dont let it die!
Great song because it tells the true story of young men returning home dysfunctional from the effects of war. They don't make songs like this anymore.
My favourite performance of this song ❤ 👍 😄
mate when u play music, it is for life.
If this was our national anthem we would have people in parliament not politicians - what a top idea.
Awesome song - always luved it...
Best Aussie song written, EVER.
every aussie know's this song
Saw Barnsey today in Perth, legend.
Best Aussie song written, EVER.

Molto bene
i'm only 19 and if i had to choose one song to play for the rest of my life, this would be it. people seem to underestimate todays youth, we don't all love justin bieber and one direction haha.

Selbst wir in Europa, haben diesen Song gehört! Zu seiner Zeit! Damals, alles alles noch so frisch war! Das war 1978/1979! Er ist so was von gut ...
"Well the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone ..."
I lost a special part of my beloved brother in Vietnam he wasnt a conscript but regular Army although in the army for only 5 months before he was in Vietnam!!!

This is a TRUE classic, but hearing it live it sounds even SOOO much better,

The great Seve Prestwich banging away. Never ever loses rhythm. One of the great rock drummers, so underrated

Great Song by Cold Chisel
i think this is the best song and im only 14 and i think its sad that its being fazed out because its 'old'. all this modern music goes out so fast but because this song is a classic it will never go out.
I'm only 14, I saw these guys in concert with my father. Goddamn, I wish i could see them again !
Respect young man 🤟
Should my dear Aussie friend Nadine be watching this video at some point; know I still care and miss you Xx
Well all love you Jimmy Barnes 👍😂💞
to me, songs like this will always be our national anthem
Saw Barnsey today in Perth, legend.
I left my heart to the sappers around Khe San. ...I get it now. Brothers in arms. Your love for your fellow man is a tribal thing. It is a gay thing in society. Women don't like being left out.
Truth.
One of the best tracks from the greatest rock band of all time.
I dono how any aussie couldnt love this bloody song... best ever!
i am so bloody keen to see them
A little tame by Chisel standards. Love the crowd, vary from 18 (guess) to 55 (me at the time) They all love it! Me, personally would love to have seen it in a pub, with Barnes trying to push The Band Harder and Faster. Love it, all the same. Ringside was first opportunity for me to see this Legendary Band.
evokes much more passion and patriotism than any national anthem could ever do.
I'd travel to Australia just to get hammered and belt out this song with a barfull of likewise drunk Aussies.
