Your reaction to Mitch Grassi is called a "Mitch-slap" by fans. :) Happens to us all! "Penta" is five, and the pentatonic scale is 5 notes (out of the usual 8). So the name refers to both the 5 of them and to music, especially pop music, where decorative runs often use the pentatonic scale. (The "x" was used just to make it cool, according to them). Other than Mitch, the group members are Scott Hoying (the tall baritone who was singing Italian), Matt Sallee, the bass, Kevin Olusola (doing the sound effects), their beatboxer, also plays cello and has a lovely voice himself, and Kirstie Maldonado, mezzo-soprano. They all have ridiculous vocal ranges, but Mitch is usually the one new listeners pick out first, and this song really features him beautifully. Subscribing in the hope you'll react to more Pentatonix (they cover everything from electronic music to classic rock to more modern pop - and yes, some of their songs have a bit of rap too! Not to mention their originals), So you should be able to find more that you like. I do wish you and your family all the best, and especially hope for the best results possible from your father's chemo.
Don't forget that Kevin is actually capable of playing 5 instruments fluently (and yes real ones, not from his beatboxing haha) I thought he played the piano in another video they did or that might have been him playing during a practice because Ben couldn't make it, which actually Kevin does that often when Ben is working on other things.
@@moragcarnie843 no it isn't. it's necessary information for new potential Pentaholics. everything prior to 2017 has a different bass singer. if she reacts to their older stuff and sees a different guy, now she knows why.
I am so sorry to hear about your dad. I do appreciate you coming out of your comfort zone and reacting to Pentatonix. I enjoyed your reaction. I do hope you continue down this rabbit hole. You might also like Hallelujah, 90’s Dance Medley, and Bohemian Rhapsody by Pentatonix. Greetings from Tennessee 🤗🇺🇸
I’ve watched this video many times but tonight for some reason listening to this I got chills after chills after chills. Loved your reaction as a Pentatonix newbie and courageously switching reaction genres. 💕🙏❄️
Aww so sorry to hear about your dad, it's very hard, my dad passed in April 2021, but sending prayers & positive thoughts your way...for a full recovery & yes Mitch is an angel voice, just listening to them makes you feel better!
Great reaction. Pentatonix (PTX) revolutionized a Capella. The have the voices and skills to cover any genre. And their arranging is legendary. They take big songs and make them BIGGER. Can not wait for you to see just how diverse their catalog of songs are. Thanks for your reaction.
Oh honey, as someone who's lost way too many to the insidiousness that is cancer, my heart breaks for you! I think the hardest part is the constant back & forth of preparing for the worst & then getting hope that you're loved one is going to make it! I lost my fiance to renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer) Sept of '20, just weeks after the Drs said his kidneys were cancer free. Please take care of yourself as best as you can during this awful time but also try to recognize the beautiful moments you can take with your Dad to just enjoy time with each other in total honesty. No matter which way it goes, you'll treasure those memories! Remember to celebrate his life, not his illness or his death. Brightest Blessings sweet girl!
There are actually Pentatonix songs where they rap. "Problem" "Sing" "Can't Hold Us" "Starships" and "Butter × Dynamite," and some bits in other songs. You can hear Mitch and Scott (guy one and guy two - who was singing in Italian) rap in a cover of "Feeling Myself" on their "Superfruit" Channel. They are all very versatile. Just so you are aware, Pentatonix has been putting out material for a decade and Mitch and Kirstie in particular change up their looks a lot, so it might be confusing, but they have only had one personnel change. In 2016 their bass singer Avi left on good terms and was replaced by Matt. So pretty much if you're wondering, "Is that Mitch?" or "Is that Kirstie?" the answer is always yes, lol. I hope you'll explore the catalog!
This is one of their simpler arrangements. Hallelujah is their big hit that most start with. Daft Punk Melody and Bohemian Rhapsody are two of the most critically acclaimed songs. I hope you cover more of their material, as they are the biggest acapella group on RUclips.
@@Korbin_Arts I was gonna say that as well. I'm not a musician but this arangement blows my mind every single time. Sure, Daft Punk has a lot going on and there are a lot of changes because it's multiple songs - and that makes it for sure really hard. But The Prayer has so many intricacies that it makes my jaw drop every time.
And Daft Punk Medley won them their first Grammy. Their second Grammy came for an a capella group doing a song with no lyrics, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies. Their third Grammy was for Jolene featuring Dolly Parton. I am still of the opinion that Bohemian Rhapsody should have gotten one as well, not to mention Imagine and Sound of Silence. Probably a few others as well deserved some acclaim from Grammy, at least nomination.
Thank you for this reaction and going outside your box. They are Pen-ta-ton-ix (5 of them). Mitch (countertenor guy) is my favorite as well. If you react to more Pentatonix (PTX) songs, their fans called Pentaholics will flock to your channel. So sorry to hear about your dad. I will be praying for him 🙏.
Members in this video: Mitch Grassi (counter tenor) Scott Hoying (baritone) Kirstin Maldonado (mezzo soprano) Matt Sallee (bass) Kevin Olusola (beatboxer, tenor and occasionally plays cello) Avi Kaplan was their original bass. He left the band in 2017 to begin a solo career.
Avi left because he has a wife and 2 small children and PTX tours A LOT overseas and he was being away from his family too much, he after helping Scott and Ben find his replacement then joined Home Free because they only tour the US and there again Scott and Ben helped Avi get in with Home Free.
@@dougk5187 Avi is not in Home Free! He guested on one video. 🙄 Right now he's touring in part of Europe for 3 weeks then back to tour in America. His 1st solo album comes out in May. Not sure where you're getting your info, but.... 😒
@@shilohauraable Sorry I live 7 minutes from the PTX studio and that is what everyone here is saying, I never watch Home Free so I don't know that part, just thought people around here who see's Ben all the time would have had better info, guess I won't trust anyone ever again.
@@kingdomloco That is info I heard from the coffee house Ben of PTX is saying, notice how I have never listened to Home Free, just thought the people who sell coffee to PTX staff would have better info huh, guess I will no longer trust the word from anyone. Oh and yes I live minutes down the road from the PTX studio.
It’s great you came out of your comfort zone..they have so many different songs. This one and Amazing Grace gave me goosebumps. So sorry to hear about your dad I understand I lost mine to cancer last year and my brother unexpectedly the month before. I find great comfort in their songs. I will pray for your dad. They do have rap songs, Christmas songs and original songs. They are amazingly talented!
I am so sorry to hear about your father. I lost my father to stage 4 colon cancer, I understand the pain, I hope he makes it out on the other side. I have never seen your channel before but pentatonix always leads me to such awesome channels. Hope there are more reactions to them in the future, thank u for your energy and ur vibe
The group name is pronounced penta-ton-ix (a pentatonic scale is 5 notes). Mitch is the first soloist and a tenor. Scott is the baritone and joins Mitch for the duet. Kirstin is the mezzo soprano of the group. Matt is the newest member and the bass (he replaced the original bass Avi in 2017). Kevin is a tenor, the beatboxer and cellist. The song is in Italian as well as English.
I'm glad you enjoyed PTX We pentaholic's ( fans) will gladly follow you down the rabbit hole. You have a wide range of songs, from covers to originals. Looking forward to next reaction. On a personal note, I'm sorry to hear about your father. I will be praying for him and your entire family for healing and peace.
Glad you enjoyed them! Multiple people have already said names and stuff but I will say that if you continue reacting to them, there is only one member switch and it is from Avi (not pictured in this video) to Matt (the bass in this video), Mitch and Kirstie often change their looks a lot so people sometimes don't think that it's them but I promise they are always there! Highly recommend Hallelujah, Bohemian Rhapsody, Come Along, and Can You Feel The Love Tonight, or really anything by them :)
Thank you for reacting to Pen-ta-tonix! I love the group, and if you give them a listen, you will also. Mitch is the tenor, Scott (who sang in Italian) is a baritone with an amazing range. Kirstin sings alto, Matt is the bass, and Kevin is a beatboxer with amazing skills who also sings. You will garner an amazing following to reactions to PTX! Prayers for your father. ❤
Love Pentatonix. Other than this one my favorites are Hallelujah, Amazing Grace, and Mary Did You Know. All of their songs are good tho. And i subscribed hoping to see more Pentatonix reactions. Thank you!
I truly hope you keep reacting to Pentatonix. I subscribed in hopes that you till. They have fun songs, beautiful songs, sassy songs, shocking songs, emotional songs etc… and they’re an a cappella band, no instruments (other than a few special occasions and then they’ll show the instrument). Mitch Grassi is the one you referred to as your favorite, he is mine as well. I tried not to have a favorite and I love them all, but I am definitely partial to Mitch!
Welcome to the world of Pentatonix, or PTX for short. Get ready for a quick boost to your channel from their rabid fans who call ourselves “Pentaholics”. Here is my quick intro to the group for new fans. PTX is a five member “a Capella” (without instruments) vocal band formed in 2011 for the NBC television reality competition show “The Sing Off”. The original members are “the trio”, who went to high school together in Arlington, Texas made up of: SCOTT HOYING, (male, 6’3”, usually blond) who sings baritone, but has a wide vocal range and covers the bass line of songs when the normal bass is singing a lead. MITCH GRASSI, (male, 5’10”, normally black hair but has changed body mass, wardrobe and hair style so much in videos he’s often mistaken for different people) who has an amazingly high range (contra tenor) that some mistake for a second female voice. KIRSTIN MALDONADO, (female, 5’4”, natural hair color is black but changed it often in videos) who sings mezzo soprano and, for a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”. Added to “the trio” for the show were: AVI KAPLAN, (Male, 5’11”, long dark hair, beard, usually wears a knit hat of some kind) is a classically trained “basso profundo”. He provides the vocal bass line as well as added vocal percussion but often uses his upper registry to sing vocal leads in a number of arrangements. Avi is the ONLY member of the band that has changed. He left on good terms in 2017 for reasons related to conflicting demands of the band’s touring schedule and his personal/family commitments. He assisted the group in finding his replacement Matt Sallee. KEVIN OLUSOLA (male, 6’1”, black, changing hair style) known as “KO” was asked to join PTX to provide vocal percussion after Scott watched a RUclips video of him “cello boxing” (beatboxing while playing his cello). KO is the classic over achiever of the group. He plays Cello, Piano, and Saxophone all at concert levels. He graduated pre-med from Yale, speaks Spanish and spent over a year in China where he became fluent in Chinese. He sings Tenor but vocals were not his strong suite when he started so he worked with other band members and a vocal coach until while on tour he would perform the featured vocals in "if I ever fall in love", (originally performed by guest artist Jason Derulo for the album and video). He also writes and produces music both individually and for the group. So, KO is more than “just the beatboxer”. The most recent member and the only change in the group’s membership is: MATT SALLEE, (male, 5’9” black with usually close-cut black hair) who replaced Avi Kaplan in 2017 to provide vocals, vocal bass and percussion. Matt can be heard using his exceptional upper vocal range to provide a rich tenor/baritone lead often ending with a slide down to a deep bass punch. Things you need to know because if you get these wrong Pentaholics will come after you with pitch forks and torches! 1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. 2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen. 3- Until recently, they never released something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage. SOME of their recent songs have over dubbing - but not when live. 4 - The "Evolution of....." videos/sound are recorded in one take. They normally record it 4 times through and pick the best!
Pentatonix's nickname is PTX....so it's OK if you call them by that name. So sorry to hear about your dad. It sounds very hard. Glad you liked Mitch's high voice. He's a counter tenor and his usual range is higher than a tenor. I hope you react to more Pentatonix (PTX). Check out their channel. They have over 200 videos there. They do covers and originals and have been around for 11 years. Thank you!
Sorry for what you and your family are going through. There are a lot of people here who can at least provide a sympathetic ear. Pentatonix have been singing together for eleven years and have a 200 plus song catalog. The members are: Scott - Baritone Mitch - Countertenor Kirstin - Mezzo-soprano Matt - Bass (since 2017) Kevin - Beatboxer/Cellist/Tenor Avi was the original bass from 2011 through 2017 and now has a solo career. This is the only member change since 2011. Prior to Pentatonix, Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin sang together in high school as The Trio. The Prayer is From their latest Christmas album, Evergreen. Recommend another song from that album, I Just Called To Say I Love You.
sorry to hear your dad is not well. i'm sending good vibes to you and hope he's well soon. pentatonix raps [can't hold us is a good example] and really they do all genres of music. did you notice they used no musical instruments? that was only vocals.
Welcome to the world of Pentatonix. Trust me they are good medicine. They will make you cry, laugh and always smile. We who love them Welcome you. 250 songs. Not a bad one in the bunch .
Great Mitch slap reaction. The guy with the high voice is Mitch Grassi. He is an amazing vocalist. And is actually a very good rapper! Check out ‘Feeling Myself’ by Superfruit (that’s the side-project for Mitch and the tall blonde guy, Scott, who sang in Italian). Pentatonix is named for the pentatonic scale of 5 notes per octave.
First guy is Mitch a rare counter tenor, then Scott a baritone with an Amazing range, then Kirsty the only woman is a mezzo soprano also an Amazing range, beat boxer is Kevin Great Tenor, he also plays the cello and can beat box as he plays the cello, Matt joined in 2017 after the original bass left. Matt is Amazing as well. Yes he sang in Italian. This was on their Christmas Album.
Great reaction and the goosebumps are real with this song. Mitch, the first guy, has an AMAZING voice and they are all incredible vocalists. They do a great cover on "Can't Hold Us" that shows off some of their rapping ability. OMG I am from the US and I used to watch Eastenders all the time because it came on right after "Are You Being Served" here on my local channel, more that 25 years ago. I see that it is still going strong! You are right on point about the similar sounds in their theme song.
Welcome to the wonderful world of pentatonix. thank you for ur reaction to pentatonix. Pnetatonix is "the" acapella group. They've been together just over 10 yrs and have a huge song list which includes covers and originals. Tthe original 5 members were kirsten (female singer), mitch (counter-tenor), scott (barritone), kevin (beatboxer), and avi (base). In 2017 avin left the group for personal reasons and in good terms...so they added matt(base). They won the 2011 sing off competiton and their careers took off from there. They've won 3 grammys for their performances of "Daft punk", Dance of the sugar plum fairies, and jolene with dolly parton. There are way too many songs to list but here is some of them I think you'll like.....mad world, attention, royals, bohemian rhapsody (QUITE SIMPLY THE FINEST COVER OF THAT CLASSIC ROCK SONG), wizard of ahhhs (a montage of 17 pop songs arranged to tell the classic story of the wizard of oz), hallelujah, sounds of silence, little drummer boy, 90's dance medley, god rest ye merry gentlemen, mary did you know, amazing grace, midnite in tokyo, butter and dynamite, you're a mean one mr grinch, god only knows, can you feel the love tonite, shallow, havana and so many more. Some originals include sing, love again, run to you, happy now, love me when i dont, coffee in bed, be my eyes, a little space, never gonna cry again, the lucky ones. During the height of the pandemic pentatonix recorded an entire album which was recorded seperately in their own homes thru zoom then mixed...songs include home, blinding lights, dreams, when the partys over, break my heart. PLEASE DO MORE PENTATONIX REACTIONS as pentatonix fans called pentaholics always love to see new people react and enjoy their songs.
LeahReuben... Sorry to hear about your Father. My 92 year old Dad passed away peacefully on February 5. My sister made a 26 minute video montage of meaningful photos in his life, with different songs playing in the background. I requested that she use "The Prayer" by Pentatonix as one of the songs, which she did. The video played at his memorial and it was stunning! Good Luck to your Dad!
Latin has two terms for some numbers. Quint is the prefix for 5 and Penta is as well. Pentatonix is all acapella. No instruments except in rare occasions and, in those cases, the instruments are very obvious. They are amazing singers and are the first/only acapella group to ever win a Grammy award; and they have won 3 of them. Their portfolio is rather diverse - this operatic piece was a more unusual divergence for them - and they do not have anything that is mediocre. Everything they do is astounding. Hope to see you do more of them. And I hope your father’s health improves and the cancer goes into remission.
Mitch slapped. That is what it is called when people are overwhelmed by his awesomeness. Penta means five as well as quint as in quintuplets. More Pentatonix please. I recommend their version of Can't Hold Us.
The guy that started us off is Mitch Grassi, he's a Countertenor which has a 6 Octave Vocal Range, if you don't know what a Countertenor is, it is a rare male vocal type, there are 2 types of Countertenors, Natural and Trained, Natural Countertenors and just Countertenors while Trained Countertenors are usually baritones and tenors. The 2nd guy that sang, the blonde guy is Scott Hoying, he's a baritone with a wide range, he usually takes over the bass when the bass has his solo. The Woman with the Blonde Hair and the only woman in the group is Kirstin "Kirstie" Maldonado, she's a Mezzo Soprano, Mezzo Sopranos have wide vocal ranges, of course Kirstin's voice is just amazing. The Bass of the group is Matt Sallee, Matt is the guy on the far right when they all lined up, Matt actually came in when the previous bass Avi Kaplan left in 2017, he was recommended by Avi and has been apart of the group ever since, while Matt is a bass, he can come across as a tenor when singing his solo parts, I wouldn't be surprised if he's actually a tenor that can sing bass. The 5th member of the group is Kevin Olusola, Kevin is the beat boxer of the group, that in itself alone is a great feat, Kevin can also play the cello and he has a sweet tenor voice, based on what I've seen he is easily the most versatile member of the group.
Did you realize this was a Capella? Mitch is the first singer, then Scott. The woman is Kirsten. The bass is Matt and the beatboxer/singer is Kevin. I suggest you try Hallelujah, Imagine and Mad World next. Then there are hundreds of songs to react to. Mitch can sing pretty low too. Scott has a huge range, very low to very high. Kirsten's voice is pure magic. Matt generally hits super low bass notes but his voice is pure soulfulness. Kevin the beatboxer is probably the most talented; he plays cello, saxophone, and signs beautifully. He also speaks fluent Chinese. There is so much for you to learn if you follow them, and I hope you do. P.S. Penta is 5 (five).
Prayers for your dad. Been there done that. Both parents, both recovered. Hope is there! I’d like to recommend their cover of Can You Feel the Love Tonight. It will help you as well. I meditate with it every day, along with their Amazing Grace.
Hi Leah, first Dimash and now Pentatonix, wonderful, I should have known sing you love Dimash’s voice that you would love Mitch’s voice as well, he has that affect on everyone I believe. So I am sure that people have told you Mitch, the guy with the mustache, Scott, the blonde, Kirstie the girl, Kevin is the best boxer, and Matt. A Cappella group from the US, and yes they can rap too, quite diverse, like in all genres. Please keep us updated about your dad, praying for all of your family ❤️🙏
My dad just passed a couple months ago... similar situation. It’s hard but you’ll get through it if you keep your head up. He wanted me to sing amazing grace at his funeral and since i knew i would i would be hysterical and unable to articulate anything, we compromised and played pentatonix’s version of “amazing grace/my chains are gone” and it was amazing. It will be a very long time before I can listen to that song without becoming hysterical. Praying for you and your dad.
If you haven't tried their version of Hallelujah, you should. That one best shows off the uniqueness of each singer's voice, yet blends so beautifully. It also features the group's original bass, Avi Kaplan. Loved your reaction, by the way
Thank you for your reaction. I am glad you stepped out of your rap genre comfort zone to listen to Pentatonix and I hope that you do more Pentatonix for us. And thank you also for sharing a bit of your father's story with us, and I hope the results show improvement.
You need to react to their Daft Punk Medley. Also have a look at Hallelujah and Amazing Grace by them Also. If you haven't realised the are an A Cappella group so produce the instrumental sounds with their voices.
First and foremost, I am so sorry to hear about your dad's struggles. Maybe there is a higher power that lead you to listen to this as your first Pentatonix song. This is the best a capella group in the world. I'm subscribing because I love watching people discover them for the first time. (especially the "Mitch-slap" at the beginning lol) All 5 of them are amazingly talented. You are in for an amazing treat! Take care dear. ♡
I don't know if you are aware of this already, but Pentatonix is an acapella group where they use their voices only to create their music. No instruments at all just their voices creates all the sounds you hear. The second singer was in fact singing in Italian. The song "The Prayer" is originally sung by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. The high pitch voice gentleman is Mitch Grassi and he's a tenor, the gentleman that sang second in Italian is Scott Hoying and he is the Baritone, but can sometimes be the bass of the group. The female of the group is Kirstin Maldonado and she is a Soprano,. That leaves Kevin Olusola and Matt Salle the 2 black gentlemen. Kevin, if you look closely when the camera is on him he is the beatboxer and he is the one that makes all the drum beats along with other sounds just by his voice and Matt is the actual bass of the group. If you need or want to know more about them just google them they won't be hard to find. So, you said you are the R&B/Rap type of person. Well. there is another acapella group out there called Home Free. Yes, they are a country acapella group, but they can do so much more than country. For example...they did a cover of Boyz II Men's 'End of the Road" and they killed it. Would love to see you do a reaction to it. It will blow your mind. Thanks for your reaction to Pentatonix. I hope you will continue to explore this group more and do more reactions. I know you will love them and also Home Free. Take care hun and I wish your father well. 🙏❤️
When you are praying for your father (in your private place) play this song, clearly listen to the words, and you'll hear God say all will be better. God bless you. 💝
Welcome to the Pentatonix rabbit hole. As a Pentavirgin, you have been appropriately Mitch Slapped. Each of them is incredibly talented in their own right, but together is where the true magic happens. Though extremely talented, They pass the lead around like an Olympic baton without competing against each other for the spotlight… They are happy to share. You should definitely watch their cover/upgrade of Hallelujah, their Daft Punk Medley, Mary Did You Know and Bohemian Rhapsody to get appropriately inducted into the Pentaholic Family. Mitch Degrassi is the counter tenor’s name btw. The others are Scott - the tall blonde guy (also incredible range and talent), Kirsten (or Kirsty - pronounced like thirsty), Kevin Olusola (or KO) is the beat box maestro/cello player extraordinaire/incredible tenor (who happens to hold a BA from Yale University), and Matt (the “new” bass since 2017). If you watch other videos previous to 2017 you will see Avi Kaplan singing bass. There is so much for you to explore!! Please do, I promise it will be an amazing distraction from your RL happenings. In fact, if your father likes Bohemian Rhapsody, you should give their version a go with him watching as well. Brian May actually reposted their cover and simply said “Enjoy”. The Pentatonix rabbit hole is deep. And Pentaholics are numerous and rabid. Come join us.
You're mixing up your languages :) Penta is latin for five. cinq, cinco, cinque all mean five - but in french, spanish, italian (btw Scott is singing Italian in his solo). also, not sure if you realised but this is an acapella group - so no instruments just vocals and beatboxing. They do all styles of music, so you can find rap in their extensive back catalogue (10+ years of content) as well. I recommend their cover of Can't Hold Us.
Wishing the very best for your father and your family! "The Prayer" was made famous by a duet between pop singer Celine Dion and operatic tenor Andrea Bocelli about 1999. Their version has a full orchestra playing with them. Unlike the original, there are no backing instruments in this recording. Everything you hear is produced by these five amazing vocalists. Mitch Grassi (guy #1) is a true counter-tenor, the highest vocal range for a male singer. He basically sings in the same range that most female sopranos sing, although he has a much lower extension when he wants to use it. Your reaction to hearing him is often called "Mitch-face" by Pentaholics (the Pentatonix fan base). It happens to everyone the first time they hear him hit his upper register, and yours was actually much less extreme than many I've seen! In the original version of the song, Andrea Bocelli sang in his native Italian, which is why Scott Hoying (guy #2) started off singing in Italian. Pentatonix has a library of over 200 songs, so there is plenty more to listen to and watch if you continue reacting to them.
FYI...Pentatonix is an acapella group that has around twenty million subscribers, and some of their videos have over six hundred million views. If you dive into reacting to their videos, you will soon have many many more subscribers yourself. I've watched it happen to many reactors that dive into their videos.
I'm from Boston mass and Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) has become my favorite actor..I luv that show!! My last name is Emery which is English..Have a good day lad
I’m so sorry to hear about your dad. Sending you and your family love and prayers from the Pacific Northwest USA. Although Pentatonix (PTX) is usually a capella, they occasionally use instruments, but if you don’t see instruments in the video, it’s a capella. For the best listening experience, I strongly recommend headphones or ear buds. I’m subscribing in hopes you’ll react to a lot more Pentatonix.
Please react to David Phelps singing: O Holy Night I Have Nothing ( Whitney Houston’s song) No More Night You will want to hear every David Phelps song you can find! Guaranteed!!!!!!
The meaning of the name Pentatonix is described by Scott.(the tall blond) "What does the word Pentatonix mean? Pentatonix, as suggested by Scott Hoying, is named after the pentatonic scale, a musical scale or mode with five notes per octave, representing the five members of the group. They replaced the last letter with an "x" to make it more appealing." It's actually a musical thing with the spelling pentatonic. The do SO MANY styles and even write their own music too, not just covers. Scott and Mitch (the amazing tenor) have a group called Superfruit too. Every one of them have done their own stuff too. They are all immensely talented! I am sorry about your father. I am sending healing vibes.
Absolutely LOVED you reaction! And...1st reaction..being Mitch slapped...lol. all have 4 -6 octave ranges they are just insanely talented. Prayers to you and you Father...sent. Definitely Italian and great pick up on that. Mitch Grassi is a counter tenor, the highest voice males can have. Try something completely different, an older original of theirs "Love Again" or try "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" (yes that one). They are simply extroidinary.
I am so truly sorry to hear about your dad. I will keep him in my prayers. I know how hard it is for a family to go through that and with you being so young just makes it that much worse. They are really a incredible group. They do a lot of covers but they also have originals that are dynamite, I hope you check them out I think you would enjoy them.
Welcome to the PENTATONIX rabbit hole! Up next: AMAZING GRACE HALALUIJH SOUNDS OF SILENCE MAD WORLD IMAGINE LOVE AGAIN GOLD SING RUN TO YOU DAFT PUNK MEDLEY DANCE OF THE SUGAR PLUM FAIRY JOLENE HAVANA RADIOACTIVE CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT THREE SHIPS RUN TO YOU CAN'T STOP US NOW for starters, and all of the Christmas music that you can ever imagine! Loved your reaction! Pentagon is 5 points. The name for their group came from the pentatonic scale is a musical scale with five notes per octave which correlates with this A cappella and 5 member group. They are amazing! You should check out their cover of Hallelujah next ♥️

And until 2017 the Bass singer was Avi Kaplan. Matt replaced him.
@@miri1234ish Seems unnecessary to mention that here.
@@moragcarnie843 no it isn't. it's necessary information for new potential Pentaholics. everything prior to 2017 has a different bass singer. if she reacts to their older stuff and sees a different guy, now she knows why.
@@ECM24 I disagree. And it's disrespectful to Matt to keep dragging the former bass's name into every video where he's no longer featured.
WELCOME! to the musical and magical genius of these 5 singers and performers. Enjoy to the PENTATONIX rabbit hole.
Aww so sorry to hear about your dad, it's very hard, my dad passed in April 2021, but sending prayers & positive thoughts your way...for a full recovery & yes Mitch is an angel voice, just listening to them makes you feel better!
I LOVE watching someone see Pentatonics and get Mitch-slapped for the 1st time!! SO FUN and you did not disappoint.
Prayers to your dad and family. 🙏💜
I hope you'll explore the catalog!
... and don't forget "Thrift Shop" among their rap repertoire!
@@bill.godwin-austen True. An early offering not to be forgotten. Yep!
Avi left in the end of 2017 btw !!
@@hugopinto6293 Yep! He finished the spring/summer tour with them, and Matt joined them for the 2017 Christmas tour.
Pentatonix is named after the Pentatonic (5 tone) scale, as a play on words for the 5 vocalists in the group.
Prayers go out to your dad!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
This is one of their simpler arrangements. Hallelujah is their big hit that most start with. Daft Punk Melody and Bohemian Rhapsody are two of the most critically acclaimed songs. I hope you cover more of their material, as they are the biggest acapella group on RUclips.
this is literally their most complex arrangement according to them. From a musical perspective this song is extremely complex
Daft punk Melody is actually daft punk medley.
Members in this video:
Mitch Grassi (counter tenor)
Scott Hoying (baritone)
Kirstin Maldonado (mezzo soprano)
Matt Sallee (bass)
Kevin Olusola (beatboxer, tenor and occasionally plays cello)
Avi Kaplan was their original bass.
Bruh what are you even talking about😭😭😂
@@shilohauraable Sorry I live 7 minutes from the PTX studio and that is what everyone here is saying, I never watch Home Free so I don't know that part, just thought people around here who see's Ben all the time would have had better info, guess I won't trust anyone ever again.
I'm glad you enjoyed PTX
We pentaholic's ( fans) will gladly follow you down the rabbit hole. You have a wide range of songs, from covers to originals. Looking forward to next reaction.
On a personal note, I'm sorry to hear about your father. I will be praying for him and your entire family for healing and peace.
Pent is five...... you're reaction was beautiful. Sending healing energy to you and your father.
Thanks for your reaction, all the best to your dad and family! 🙏
Prayers for your father. I’m so sorry.
I am so sorry to hear about your father
My prayers will be with you and your family.🙏🙏🙏
Glad you enjoyed them! Multiple people have already said names and stuff but I will say that if you continue reacting to them, there is only one member switch and it is from Avi (not pictured in this video) to Matt (the bass in this video), Mitch and Kirstie often change their looks a lot so people sometimes don't think that it's them but I promise they are always there! Highly recommend Hallelujah, Bohemian Rhapsody, Come Along, and Can You Feel The Love Tonight, or really anything by them :)
Prayers for your Dad !!
Bless you and your family. Great reaction. Thank you.
Theh greatest singers ever .their Amazing
Thank you for reacting to Pen-ta-tonix! I love the group, and if you give them a listen, you will also. Mitch is the tenor, Scott (who sang in Italian) is a baritone with an amazing range. Kirstin sings alto, Matt is the bass, and Kevin is a beatboxer with amazing skills who also sings. You will garner an amazing following to reactions to PTX! Prayers for your father. ❤
Kirstie is a mezzo soprano.... with great range
I love them so much. Please react to more,of their music. They sing every kind of music and they are magical
The original members are “the trio”, who went to high school together in Arlington, Texas made up of:
SCOTT HOYING, (male, 6’3”, usually blond) who sings baritone, but has a wide vocal range and covers the bass line of songs when the normal bass is singing a lead.
Added to “the trio” for the show were:
AVI KAPLAN, (Male, 5’11”, long dark hair, beard, usually wears a knit hat of some kind) is a classically trained “basso profundo”.
The most recent member and the only change in the group’s membership is:
MATT SALLEE, (male, 5’9” black with usually close-cut black hair) who replaced Avi Kaplan in 2017 to provide vocals, vocal bass and percussion.
Excellent summary! The only correction I'd offer up is that Matt is definitely taller than 5'9"... I'm pretty sure he's over 6'.
The members are:
Scott - Baritone
Mitch - Countertenor
Kirstin - Mezzo-soprano
Matt - Bass (since 2017)
Kevin - Beatboxer/Cellist/Tenor
Avi was the original bass from 2011 through 2017 and now has a solo career. This is the only member change since 2011.
Prior to Pentatonix, Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin sang together in high school as The Trio.
The Prayer is From their latest Christmas album, Evergreen. Recommend another song from that album, I Just Called To Say I Love You.
Great reaction to an absolutely Gorgeous song My prayers for your father May God be by his side and your families through such a difficult time🙏🙏
I just subbed in hopes of more Pentatonix reactions! 💖
sorry to hear your dad is not well. i'm sending good vibes to you and hope he's well soon. pentatonix raps [can't hold us is a good example] and really they do all genres of music. did you notice they used no musical instruments? that was only vocals.
Hi, Leah. Great reaction to Pentatonix. Another great acapella group is Home Free. You are beautiful.
I saw them do this live in December…sooooooooooo good!!
Welcome to the world of Pentatonix. Trust me they are good medicine. They will make you cry, laugh and always smile. We who love them
Welcome you. 250 songs. Not a bad one in the bunch
.
I didn’t even realise Eastenders was a thing in the US?! 😂😂
The PTX rabbit hole is a joyful trip.
God bless your dad.
"Quint" is from Latin... I believe "Penta" derives from Greek.
@@bill.godwin-austen ahhh. You may be right. Good call.
Great reaction!
More, please!! =)
Praying to God for your dad, and you.✝️☮🙏🏾💙
Mitch slapped.
Girl luv that twang! You seriously need to check out all Pentatonix stuff from learning to love again to Gold and so on just mind boggling❤
Pentatonix is a play on the Pentatonic scale, 5 notes known in all cultures and there is 5 of them.
Ah thinking of you 💛💛

react to their 90s music mix too.. but so many songs to listen too.. have fun with it and enjoy it too
If you haven't tried their version of Hallelujah, you should.
Very sorry about your father. 😪 I send healing prayers for him and you all.
I am sorry to hear about your dad health. I am going through definitely. But music brings you back.
The Eastenders duff duff duff was done by Kevin, the beat boxer who does most of the percussion sounds! Best wishes to your dad!
You're mixing up your languages :)
Penta is latin for five. cinq, cinco, cinque all mean five - but in french, spanish, italian (btw Scott is singing Italian in his solo).
also, not sure if you realised but this is an acapella group - so no instruments just vocals and beatboxing.
They do all styles of music, so you can find rap in their extensive back catalogue (10+ years of content) as well. I recommend their cover of Can't Hold Us.
A pentatonic scale is a musical scale with five notes per octave,
Wishing the very best for your father and your family!
Welcome to the world of PTX.
I'm from Boston mass and Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) has become my favorite actor..I luv that show!! My last name is Emery which is English..Have a good day lad
May you find comfort and faith within your father's smile. Be well, Duke
You really need to do more pentatonix reaction. They are the best accapella group where any of the can sing lead.

Welcome to Pentatonix. 18 million subsribers strong. They have loads of videos. Please react to the 90's dance medely video. You'll have a blast.
The song was written for the animated movie, Quest For Camelot. Slightly different lyrics.
Praying for you dad
He passed away but thank you 🫶🏻
Absolutely LOVED you reaction!
Omg im in love with your eyes lea 😍
Aw 🥺
I am so truly sorry to hear about your dad. I will keep him in my prayers. I know how hard it is for a family to go through that and with you being so young just makes it that much worse. They are really a incredible group. They do a lot of covers but they also have originals that are dynamite, I hope you check them out I think you would enjoy them.

Loved your reaction! Pentagon is 5 points. The name for their group came from the pentatonic scale is a musical scale with five notes per octave which correlates with this A cappella and 5 member group. They are amazing! You should check out their cover of Hallelujah next ♥️

The one with the 'stache is Mitch Grassi. Like many before you, you've been "Mitch Slapped." :D
