Thank you for making this video!!! This is exactly what mine is doing. I tested the relay and it was stuck closed as you stated. New part is on it's way!
My AC unit did the same thing. I thought it was the overload circuit. It is the relay on the board. Now I have to find a relay switch. Thanks for the information. Good Video.
I’d recommend a whole new board since there are other components on it that can also go bad. No point in skimping just to have to do the job again later.
@@RamblinMichigander I am good with electronics. Should be a simple replacement. I will test the board for other problems. I have already ordered the relay to replace it. Thanks for the help.
@@TravisLang667 I think mine is the fan relay as well. Changed cap twice, have power on, no blower. Where did you source your relay? Looks like desolder 4 joints and 2 wires to connect.
Great troubleshooting, I've been a hvac service, install journeymen mechanic for over 45 yrs.Yes,im 71 years old.I just bought a Winnebago 30 ft 2004 .Never thought i would have to trouble shoot my own rv a/c system because im retired and had enough of this crap. But i wanted to congratulate you on your troubleshooting skills .
Great video man. Here it is the 5th of August 2023 and your video is still the first one that covers this repair to fix my ac unit with the same symptoms as yours. I sorta figured that was the problem with mine but wasnt wanting to pay $224.00 for a new control board. But anyway thanks for the video because its going to help out alot of people. My unit was humming or buzzing like yours was and only way to cut the ac off was at the breaker box. The thermostat wouldn't cut it off. Thanks again.
I have analog system, can usually hear relay click when therm activates ac. Today, it didn’t. Thanks for showing which relay it is and when I arc’d it, AC started. Amazon replacement board on its way😅. The 3107541-009 was the key.
You're awesome bro! Mine is doing the same tonight! Thanks to you I can fix it myself!! Thanks for you instruction!!! Travel safe brotha!!! I'm not sure how much money you've saved me but you're appreciated for certain......
I'm pretty sure this is my issue as well.. Ive got a hum when I cut it off at the wall and have to turn it off at the breaker to get it to turn off. I also hear clicking not all the time but when I do its a lot of clicking. Ive been having to turn it on and off to keep it from freezing up and freezing us out.. we're full-time and the summer was too brutal to try and go without while trying to figure out what was wrong.. Its been a pain searching online( as you know), nothing has matched our issue and a huge checklist of what it could be. I had pretty much decided that if I had to replace everything in that list, I might as well buy a new unit. However, we will be in our house sometime next summer, and I don't want to replace it if I don't have to. I figured I would search the internet one more time.. and voila there you were. You did a great job explaining everything and I feel confident that this is it.. Thanks so much for posting this video..!!
I have the same problem with my a/c unit in my motorhome. I couldnt find a video either till i stumbled on yours, thank the maker you made this video, i was able to follow and confirm my a/c problem. thanks, a GREAT help to me.
Great Video, Had a new board installed a week ago. AC worked flawless all day long on the first outing. Turned the AC temp up as it was turning into a meat locker. AC turned back on and the trouble began. I have a basement AC with two compressors. Compressor one would buzz and two would turn on. Found your video after talking to Winnebago about the issue. They said it was a stuck relay switch. Your video confirmed the issue. Now the big question. The board has to have a warranty on it. Labor to install the new board is the question. Thanks for the video.
HELP, HELP, I did replace the control panel and only worked for a few hours then it star to do the same, I going to order a new one " hopefully I get a defective device.
@@shineproproducts Ha! That’s quite a coincidence! Remember, your AC unit may be different such as where the board is located, how difficult it is to replace, etc. But the basics should be similar. Good luck to you!
Mine does the same thing, but for a temporary fix, you can grab a little wrench and tap the relay a couple of times, then try it, it works for my AC everytime.
Just a little diagram 101- the K-4 relay is the compressor relay and the "NO" stands for "Normally Open". The lower right grouping is the 6 pin connector from the control box to the compressor/fan on top. Blue is compressor, black is high fan, red is low fan, with is neutral for compressor/fan, green-yellow is ground. And i'd bet you do have a furnace.
Hello from Beville, TX to Midland-Odessa, TX. I guess you work in the Oil Field. Had similar issue with a 1 year old Colman Airxcel Mach 15/10, but my fan kept running continuously. Went up on the roof opened the AC housing, pulled the control box out and measured all 5 Lippert OneControl wires going to the control box. Non had 12VDC, but the fan kept blowing until I popped the 120VAC breaker. So I guess the fan Relais is stuck too. Just finished ordering a new control box, hope that solves the issue.
Hey. Many thanks for this video. Last trip, we pulled in, plugged in and the Compressor would not fire. Turned the system on and off about 10 times and then it turned over and stayed cool for the whole trip. By the sounds of this video, the relay switch is sticking and likely unstuck itself. Sounds like I should order a board just to have on hand in the event the sticky switch fails completely.
Yes, that’s definitely a possibility. The other thing that causes the compressor to not turn on is the capacitor failing. But I believe the capacitors pretty much either work or fail completely so it’s prob not your issue.
@@RamblinMichiganderif the fan is turning on but compressor not igniting to blow cool air would that likely be relay or capacitor? Other videos have mentioned overload protector
Hi, I remember an old video of an investment property you bought. I really enjoyed the restoration type videos on that property. Can you please provide an update on that property? Thanks.
I've had the same issue, and just recently figured it out mine is 30 years old and doesn't have a control board, only separate relays but still the compressor relay stuck on and did the same thing as yours.
My ac is only 3 years old and did the same thing , 300+ dollars for a replacement circuit board . Im gonna get a new relay put on the old circuit board and keep it as a spare
How much did just the board cost? I have a similar problem but ours fails to shut off intermittently and causes the fan to come back on. Then at other times it works without any problems.
I wonder how much that board was. The relay is probably in the $10 region and should be a common type available in AutoZone. And yes, anyone with a little bit of soldering skill could swap it in 10min. Good skill to have.
With overnight shipping it was about $110. Yes, I could’ve saved money by having a new relay put on, but I just didn’t have the time. I needed it fixed to be ready for my trip. Plus there are other things on that 20 year old board that could’ve gone bad later. Better to just replace the whole thing.
My propane fridge, small dometic, goes thro a tank of propane in 24 hours. Cools just fine. Gets very hot on counter and outside trailer. Electric works fine. What is it?
I have this same air conditioner in my 2000 Hitchhiker II fifth wheel. Mine will do the same thing as yours but if I shut off the breaker and back on again the compressor is off. It may act up again on the next cycle or be fine for several days. Lately it's been getting worse. The fact that my relay does shut off with power loss makes me wonder if it could be a thermostat problem. Does that seem possible to you?
I’m not an expert but no, that doesn’t sound like thermostat. That sounds like a relay that is sticking but not constantly like mine was. But things like that always get worse. I suggest replacing it asap. If the compressor runs for very long without the rest of the AC unit operating, it could cause damage to the compressor or, I hear, even start a fire. Not worth taking that risk for avoid paying for a $100-ish part.
Gordon since your bolts were loose shouldn't you be checking/replacing the rubber gasket also? I'd be concerned about future water leaks. Great video by the way! Wish I had electrical understanding like you. Looking forward to your upcoming videos. Cheers! ~M
