Good info thanks. I think I have the same unit on my lance truck camper. It runs great even after 20 years. Only upgrade Im doing now is the analog tstat to digital. I bought the kit which has a control box but mine is like yours and mounted on top next to the capacitors. So Im attempting to change it out with the help of youtube.

Let us know how you make out with that thermostat. Mine is flaky too, I’d like to upgrade it as well

My wife was cleaning inside of travel trailer and plugged it into a long extention cord, after 15 minutes with ac on it tripped the power strip. After that the ac will not get cold, I replaced with oem the dual capacitor and start cap both dometic parts. Plugged direct to 20 Amp breaker it now still trips breaker within a minute. Only 1 part I did not replace is the pctr relay. I ordered one, waiting to arrive. I don't have seperate thermostat, is on the cover on ceiling. Coils are clean, I even cleaned just to be sure. Any idea, if it is garbage will not get another penguin 2, was only used a few weeks since rv was new and rv is a 2014.

If is bad ac, I will rig up a mini split, would be quieter and prob better overall. Been using a roll around ac temporarily.

Was it behaving properly before you used the long extension? What gauge was that extension cord?

@@rotwiler7674 mini splits are great. People that have installed them seem to love them

@@KenLecomtees was working fine, I used it 3 summers(8 days each summer in 110-120 degree weather), only thing was it would freeze up when 110 out, last 2 summers used a roll around ac, the penguin 2 is 13500 and barely kept rv a tolerable temp when that hot(inside rv was around 80 when 120 outside). Kind of gave up on it, might try a fresh jet one dometic has or another brand that I can use the overhead control box(is not ducted) rv is a v cross vibe small trailer 7x20. Fan comes on, I hear the compressor come on and pops breaker, is 2013 model, but barely used, I used it 3 summers in normal weather under 90 outside, then 3 summers when 120 in desert, then stopped, total use time was about 1000 hours.

@@KenLecomteid consider mini split, I just put 2 12k in my house, love them, but my rv is tiny with one huge slide and can't figure out where the inside box would fit in the rv, no wall space. My rv is simular to a R pod with twice the size slide out.

Is this ac still working? Trying to fix my older penguin unit, compressor not coming on

Mine is working fine and it’s much quieter than newer units

Do you know what would cause one not to run when in auto mode? Runs fine when you put the fan on full time, but will not come on when in auto. The fan will not even come on.

I can’t be sure but I would suspect the thermostat might be at fault
