Imagine the invisible goths. The previous generations. Notice at concerts and festivals... no one is 50plus. Where do you think we went. I hear myself in you. Just remember... you morphed to goth. I promise it changes.
I don't dress the style anymore, I just dress casual lol. So it's always fun when someone asks what kind of music I like, and I'm just like *rubs hands together* "Never thought you'd ask" :p
Mia Niday I went to see Peter Murphy several years ago, and it was oddly refreshing to see so many "older" people dressed completely "normal"! Even amongst all the blue jeans & t-shirts, and minimal makeup, one could still tell who the Elder Goths were... I'm nearly 45, and a mom, living in a very warm climate, so comfort & function are always the highest priority, but for some reason, people can always tell I'm Goth...
Same here. You will never see me in vinyl or spikes anymore, I still work lots of black clothing, heavier eye makeup, etc in. But when someone asks me about music... they've just opened pandora's box lol.
Now that I'm in my Vintage years😏... yes this question comes up.. every now and then.. my friends will laugh and wait... I considered my early Years as a Death Rocker.. goth boys had make up and skirts etc.. and we had to fight people.. jocks, Gangster, and Punk kids.. it's just How it was.. you had to earn your Look I guess.. I come that spirit.. peace. My two pennies on the floor..
Yes, just like the original band members who we recognize as the founders of Goth rock, we dress as we feel not as a 'look'. Most days, I am in black jeans and a tshirt. Too old to put much work into it anymore!
Well, I would argue that there's a very real culture around the music as well .But I agree that the music is the one thing that brings it all together. It's the most improtant cornerstone.
Next to It's Black Friday, you really are one of the very best ambassadors for the Goth scene. I really love how all your videos are so positive and your always showing the fun side of the Gothic subculture. You sir! , are a star! 🌟👍😎
She’s actually really terrible. She says you dint need to listen to goth music to be goth and only does hauls and makeup videos and she used to not disclose that her hauls were sponsored. She makes it seem like it’s a fashion thing and you need to buy expensive brands it be goth
We need a Goth United Nations, to bring together all the goths of the world. You brought up some good points..about the pale look and makeup, I'm launching a specific line of products (foundations and powders) next year to help goths with more melanin achieve our desired look...you know, dead. Since our skin naturally radiates liveliness and health...sadly XD
Goth society! Hell yes! I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants to expand. Given, I'm more of a crazy jingoist that wants to conquer the world through force, but hey - there's more than one way to shroud the planet in darkness!
As an eternal goth (goth since 1985, when I was the tender age of 15) I wholeheartedly agree with advice for our important, and beloved newcomers or baby bats. My favorite place to score unusual fashion and jewelry is at local yard sales and especially estate sales! Great video and you look fabulous! Hugs,
Number 7 is so important! I have an analogy I like to use: Imagine there being a goth character in a work of fiction. If this goth character consisted to 100% of just stereotypes, it would be seen as a really poorly and lazily written one-dimensional character. It's MUCH more interesting if they break a few stereotypes and have some non-goth interests! Maybe this goth character is scared of going to graveyards at night, plays basketball every Thursday, studies to become a veterinarian, and loves all Adam Sandler movies! This doesn't negate their "gothiness" and they can still religiously listen to all the classical post punk/goth rock bands, carry around an Edgar Allan Poe book wherever they go, own half a dozen pairs of winklepickers, have multiple piercings and teased black hair, be able to give you a chronological list of every Dracula movie adaptation ever made, and have every room in their house filled with year-round Halloween decor.
I kind of despise it when kids TV shows and cartoons often times stereotype Goths. I know it's supposed to be for fun, but real Goths are far from that.
Beautifully done, I especially love how you addressed the ambassadorship of the people. We need to love and respect people who are new to keep the culture alive. You always do such a great job.
As an Decrepit Elder I would definitely recommend to young people go to thrift stores, DIY, learn to sew (doesn’t have to be great). Don’t worry that you can’t afford to buy from Killstar or Punk Rave etc. If you really want to buy something special I would save for great shoes, a jacket or jewelry. I’m in my 50’s and still have a few jackets/jewelry I bought when I was a teen.
Shazzy E Me too and even a pair of black parachute pants I can miraculously still squeeze into. Lol. Leather skirts still fit but the pants didn't. EBay is a possibility. Keep going back when it comes to auctions, never know what you can find. Still have my flapper type dress from the 80s. Black with lace and fringes I can probably goth up with platforms and accessories. Too clumsy with heels let alone stilettos for other occasions. Just located an old short lace dress I had. Perfect. Time to just pull everything out and organize. Can never find what I'm looking for. Lots of clothes in good shape. Lots come back in style like it matters to me. I like it, I wear it. I weed out stuff but end up with a got to have. Then you get clothes as a gift, please don't, often not my style but wear them enough to be nice and can donate later.
J Moore I die thinking thinking of the stuff I got rid of or gave away esp shoes, custom jackets (either made by me or for me...as starving art students we had to be creative hustling money on the side). One of my dearest friends still has boots we bought in London in very early 80’s...I could kick myself!!!!
Shazzy E absolutely!, a fellow original 80s Goth here! Yes, combining thrifting with diy is a much better way to develop a truly individual wardrobe and it’s absolutely okay to add some colour.
Spiral Python I think with Instagram and social media kids in the subculture want to look perfect so it becomes a uniform (admittedly, back in our day there was a bit of it too). As for color absolutely! Wear what makes you happy. I lived in kilts/plaid skirts back in the day (I was and still am a little more “punk” but that’s what it was back then until the 80’s).
For POC, I suggest watching Gothic SoulFlower's videos. I recommend her to everyone, really. She knows how to rock a dark complexion with awesome colors. She's so great.
The first tip is the one that striked me the most. I tend to worry a lot for little things. "I suck I make up, how am I supposed to look how I like?", "I don't like Post-Punk, people won't take me seriously", "I can't find goth clothes in Argentina, people won't believe that I'm Goth". So I really need to chill. Great video, Simon. I loved it
You seem like such a lovely person!! I think a lot of people feel intimidated about gothic culture because people can perceive it as ultra exclusive because they see the clothing and think “oh wow they’re so cool. They’ll never accept me”. I don’t know if I identify as goth, but I LOVE finding beauty in the dark and mysterious and I’m so glad there’s an entire community that appreciates that!! I’m super excited to learn more-thank you!!!
I don't care how old the video is, I'll comment. I started my Goth, in the middle of my first year of college. And felt for the first time in life like I'm myself. I had friends that didn't care, cause they knew how nice I am. And even now, I surprise people who meet me, that I'm so smiling, and happy, for such a dark look. I started slowly, of course. No regrets about what I did. It helped me a lot with my anxiety. I just love it
Simon I think you did a really good job introducing newcomers to the culture. You are well spoken and positive. Thanks so much for posting this video. 💀👍
Oh God your blouse is so simply fabulous 😭💕† This video is going to help so many young goths who are worrying about being new to the Goth subculture, and seeing a person like you empower people like that is making my heart weep. Because it definetly helped me. I'm still worrying about my looks, tho we all know looking like the Batcave being crawled fresh out of the grave takes years and years. So, thank you for being a great human being and taking the time to film this.
Just have fun with it. I started punk goth in the 80s but now the lone wolf at the edge of the boonies. No goth clubs or events out here. Still enjoy going out punk, goth and steampunk. I like it and too old to care what others think. I even stand out at the gym with all the various black leggings, some with cats and shirts with black cats. A bit of a theme when going more casual. Get both funny looks but compliments too in outfits. Got old albums and cassettes of the music from the early days. Kids think I'm weird with my music. I like anything if it sounds good. Music collection is massive. I rediscover stuff and it's like Christmas. But kids, just have fun and ignore the bullies and peer pressure. Live, dress, think for yourself. School will end for you one day.
J Moore After years of not having one, I just picked up a cassette player a couple of weeks ago. I have literally hundreds of cassettes I haven't been able to listen to, and have been rediscovering some old favorites. My 12-year-old daughter was quite curious when I pulled out my bin of cassettes, and had absolutely no idea what they were...
I bought an all in one stereo that records anything to flash drives so you can put on computers, phones, etc. Not buying mp3s if I have it. Well, not 8 tracks or reel to reel which was just dying out when I was born. Lol. Can record off the radio like when I did as a kid. But hard to catch anything from the beginning or get rid of jabber that way. Lots of albums and 45s between my husband RIP and me though. It sounds better using other speakers than built in ones.
I only wear makeup on special occasions or when I want to play, I don’t do it every day. And I don’t always wear black... but I love goth music (recently been introduced in the past few years) and I’ve always had macabre inclinations :)
I have really started to explore goth style clothing lately. I especially love baby doll goth looks. The fashion is really unique and I like showing my self expression through clothing. I have interests that are very far from that of the goth subculture and it’s comforting that you mentioned that it’s ok to also have those interests. Thank you for being so welcoming and kind. I really appreciate it.
That would be fun, but I don't think it'll happen anytime soon I'm afraid. There's no way I could shop myself to do a proper haul and I'm not really interested in trying to collaborate with brands to do it either.
Noticed that about goth guy looks. I knew a guy that grew his nails, used house paint and put in earrings on his fingernails. Unique. The almost universal Mohawk at that time.
Very pleased with your suggestions and you made me feel inclusive. I shall say you very likely encouraged many viewers to seek what is compatible to be delighted to be part of the Goth subculture. An Ambassador to the Goth subculture means, to be very pleased to represent the Goth subculture and be prepareed to delve into it deeper.
Thank you for this. Ive always loved the style and dark feel of goth and I’ve been working my way in as of this year lol. Im glad I watched this and glad your genuine. Thank you for Helping this Baby Bat grow!
It's call Industrial Goth! A subset of goth culture. I've been an industrial goth since high school in the 80's. I tuned in to see what the "kids" nowadays consider to be goth. You had me at your opening monologue... ANYBODY in the goth, punk, post punk scene will accept you if you're not perfect. They'd probably be happy to give you advice or help you if you asked!! And anyone outside looking in that gives you any shit it is a display of how unhappy they are themselves. Not your fault if someone is a douchebag! I really appreciate you putting that out there. I only wish I had realized that more when I was a kid. Just be YOURSELF. You will never go wrong. ♥️👍😊
Again & as I've said before, you're a genuinely nice + friendly guy indeed! I really like your approach, the way you project yourself & see the Gothic subculture! As an elder Goth, I see you as a brother who understands the in & outs of our subculture through & through! Since the pandemic started, I haven't been to any concerts, my lasts were wonderful (VNV Nation, Birmingham UK) , Sisters of Mercy ( London UK) & The Cult ( Birmingham UK) , all in 2019! Age didn't stop me from attending, the awful pandemic has!! Only regret I have is not having had the chance to participate in many festivals as you have! Only been to Whitby 3 times, Infest once and Donnigton once too, plus a couple of all day Gotham events in London, but never abroad!! Have you ever been to our famous & very old all nighter nightclub Slimelight..? I bet you have! Much love, health & peace, bro! 👍🧡
Gothic Subculture -> Creative Individuality (the quickest two word terminology)....though details are recommended & always welcomed! Creative (Kre'adiv) adjective relating to or involving the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work (change unleashes people's creative energy). Individuality (in • did • vid • u • al • i • ty) noun 1) total character peculiar to and distinguishing an individual from others. 2) archaic: the quality or state of being indivisible. 3) separate or distinct existence 4) individual person *a little goth humor* Get a goth & get happy! Go goth & never go back! Goths make better lovers & I have proof! Got a goth ? (if not, you need one) "Hear about the new Tim Burton movie?" "Yea! It's called, 'The 12 Days of Halloween'." T-shirt that reads: Goth & Loving It! Goth really isn't a disease, but we can make into one if you want. *hope those little tidbits of humor make you smile & giggle a little*
Omg Simon Thank you so much for making this video. It's amazing to see you, Adora, Angela, Avelina, Victoria, and Freyja and anyone else I may have not listed show people we are not just about black magic or spells (nothing wrong with that) or worshipping satan but that we are kind and are friendly it may take some time for that to show but it's there. I 100% agree we are the face of the subculture so how we treat others, how we act shows people how we are and how the subculture really is. Like around my area I look like a vampire alot and I get looks for it but I'm always kind and generous with people, I tell people thank you or you're welcome or have a nice day with a smile, they look back at me like omg what? Which I find very funny. But anyway again thank you so much for this lovely video🖤 sending love.
This was a great video! I am goth at heart… the music I like (and make 🖤), the books I read. I have some goth friends. I’ve been thinking about committing to the aesthetic but it really makes me nervous. Thinking about a hybrid style goth/casual. I’ve always been more a surfer boy haha. This video was really helpful at putting me at ease
I came into this ready to criticize. I can't. Your look is on point (you look really great). More importantly you are one of the few to point out the basics of music of the subculture & just be correct & know what you are talking about. It's a refreshing change from most youtube folk. I can't disagree or criticize. Besides which you seem lovely. Anyway, well done for understanding & expressing the scene correctly. Much appreciated & much applause! X
My how-to on any subculture/genre... be true to yourself, respectful of others and enjoy the ride. If you find yourself pigeonholed into a corner, remember it was creativity that brought you there in the first place. In that case, being open-minded and honest with yourself helps.
My favorite singing voice will always be David Gahan..Depeche Mode was the first concert I ever went to, unforgettable. I still love the Cure and Siouxie.. they are such nostalgic bands to me now. New Order, classic 80's stuff is what I grew up on. I also like a lot of 90's music, pop, blues, anything I can sing to! ...and thrift stores {though that is not music}.
This video is great! I really liked the 'ambassador' part as well- it's very important to realize that we all represent the subculture and to be your best self!
You are the best person ever, I swear! I am so glad there are still people like you teaching us, and showing us the way. Not shutting us out because we don't know much! Thank you for being so knowledgeable and helpful and also open! As a person of color, this video really meant a lot to me, and has taught me lots! Thank you sir!
For people of color, the simple eyeliner and even using brighter colors on the eyes is very amazing such as metallics, neons, pearlescents, and brighter & bolder primary colors are great!
Don’t want to sound like a fan girl, but he’s really handsome. And amazing tips. I really appreciate how you keep saying “not to worry about it” and “take your time” which is what a lot of baby bats need to do.
You’re so sweet and thoughtful. I felt included. I am a dark skinned goth and when you said you can wear your clothes and still look great you don’t have to rock the pale skin. I was like aw subscribed! Lol
This is all exactly right! The main thing I always tell anyone that asks me is definitely don't worry what others think - just do want you like and feel good in/with. :) I don't dress up or do my hair every day anymore and I don't have piercings like I used to either - but I still consider it my subculture. Looks aren't everything which I think overwhelms newcomers a lot haha. Also that blouse you're wearing is lovely ♥ The ambassador part is great, I loved that. It's also really awesome to see the differences for me between here (Canada) and over there in Europe. Similarities and differences.
#Calcandy . I have been to Goth subculture since late 1980s in Toronto. I got use people prejudice me dressing Victorian Goth, I didn't let bug me at all, I had people take pictures of me without my permission because I look different then. I didn't what these people said to me, they did to me Halloween is over, I said to then thank you Halloween is everyday for me. When Toronto Goth scene started is late 1980s, music I heard at our nightclubs was Goth Rock Post - Punk, Death Rock, Dark Wave, that's beginning our Toronto Goth scene, late 1990s we start to hear Industrial, EMB, still Post - Punk, Goth Rock, Dark wave, Cold Wave, Ethereal Wave. We did had 12 places we did shop, they all close down accept two, they are still around, we did had 9 nightclubs our night, all of then close down, one of only do concerts, it's on Queen, St, West our Goth subculture Community. Goth subculture never die. It was amaze time, we do still have Goth nights still, we have Gothic Market, we did had Goth Festival back day, it wasn't very big of #WaveGotikTreffen , but I like to go there someday, I film there. I had been in London, UK, I saw Gothic shops there I did went inside to checkout. I always support new Goth bands. Thank you for sharing this with me. I buy one piece or I wait for sales, I do talk this a lot on my videos on my RUclips Channel. I welcome new people out subculture, I want they feel comfortable our subculture.
Very good advice as usual, Simon! In the beggining (and sometimes even now), I had a bit of anxiety about not knowing enough about goth music. But thing is, there's so much music that can be considered goth, that no one will ever know ever single thing, and that's ok. Going bit by bit is always better in my opinion, but the most important will always be "be yourself, no matter what they say", as that song goes!
Seven tips for getting into goth? Oh I got one: listen to the music, listen to the music, listen to the music, listen to the music, listen to the music, listen to the music, listen to the music.
Exquisite points. Thank you. I'm usually very cynical and brooding but, I like to have fun. Thank you for inspiring me with great advice. Very inspiring and true facts. By the way I've been in the scene over 20 years. I played in Astrovamps and Willow Wisp. Currently in Black Heroin Gallery.
Been Gothic since 1979. No one really "gets into goth", it's born in you, you are the product through despair and a thronging melancholic rebellion against a society that makes no sense. Here's my personal top 5. #1 society has created a chronic melancholic world veiw in you from within the post punk era since the punk era failed. #2 rebel by dying all your clothes black. #3 it's how you display your disdain for the current societal trends. #4 select the type of music, literature and video that reflect your mood and nature. #5 be the goth, live the goth. Don't hold on to any of the trending labels and stereo types that the so-called gatekeeping clowns try to pigeon hole you into. They're the posers. It's about a mindset and an attitude toward a gloomy society full of pretense. The rest will come naturally. Worked for me for the last 43 years . Nice video 🤙🦇🇬🇧
My older sister is apart of the goth subculture and she really has suggested you and other RUclipsrs to get info about this because I'm slowly getting into this
Great video. Best guide for beginners on youtube. You should have way more subscribers and likes. Your channel is bullshit free and always creating new content. No unboxings or boring rants. Thank you!
Thank you for this nice video! I’m trying to find out more about my goth side at the moment and you calmed me down a little concerning the “not goth enough” part :) btw, I love your lipstick!
I went to a ministry and skinny puppy concert... wearing all white and neon lipstick. I was full blown goth. I had to go shopping for anything white. I was the only one. I glowed under the blacklight. It was the first time in years i stood out. I was original on the crazy scene. Originality can only be claimed if you are first. I was the white goth In 1994. I never fit in. It was too predictable.
You are a very pleasant person, and I really enjoyed the video! I like the view that you don’t have to be perfect and to not put yourself in a box, thank you for a wonderful video! Much needed.
Oh, I'm into the goth (sub)culture 15+ years, and 30+ old.... Trough the years I would say today: 1. Don't worry (like you), and 2. I know that I know nothing, and I don' t care about.... is toooo big and changes a bit with every new day and every new goth.- I think a new goth will find his/her/... way into and through the (sub)culture in her/his/.... own way, ore it insn't the right culture. For you good an bad people, music, clothes, times and places, you have in every way of culture. Find friends... ore just nice people, and have a good time in goth (sub)culture, maybe till your own time ends. Oh, last Tip: Go outside media and injoy the real goth (sub)culture is allways better than sitting alone at home.
Gets hard as you get older if you're not near a big city anymore though. No clubs but a tribute band place and goth will fit in a bit with some bands where people get in the spirit and dress the part like the heavy metal ones. But I still have fun with it. I love being out closer to nature and a slower pace and neighbors actually talk to and help each other. I'm sure they think I dress odd til they get to know me. Bikers seem to know where the good food is and reasonable priced out here. Bikes! Let's try this place out. Bikers plenty, goth, haven't seen any but just moved out here. More of a country vibe around here.
I love your idea of making videos. You know how to tell the world about goth culture. You are a role model. You are an inspiration. And the way you're doing this I've never seen before. But I really love it. 🖤🦇
Coalcandy. Hm... how can I explain. First you are a very positive kind of person. And you explain subculture that everyone can unterstand this different world we know as normal. I think no one ever was talking about it like you. (And Sorry. My english is not the best XD)
I'm a Goth and a metalhead. I've been listening to Goth Rock and Metal for 14 years. Deathrock, Coldwave, etherealwave, Darkwave etc... I love Black Metal, Death Metal etc to.. My favorite goth bands are: She Past Away Bauhaus Switchblade Symphony O.Children Shadow Age Christian Death etc... I'm a Goth and metalhead of color, but never had a problem with that because I'm attractive I guess even though I don't care looks to much. I wear a mix of Goth and metalhead. Goths don't just have to listen to goth rock, newwave they can listen to metal, classical music etc.. we are not obligated to one genre or style of music. That goes for other metalheads to. I enjoyed the video 🤘🏾
One thing to bring up is don't, at least nowadays, purchase a full outfit from the American chain store Hot Topic. It used to have it's Goth heyday, but it shifted to pop culture in recent time. It does have some bits and pieces of Gothic, but they've kind of missed the mark. The term that revolves around that is Goth in a Box.
thank you Simon for this video...you have explained everything so well.I am an old bt and have tried to explain this very thing to my baby bat niece I shall refer her to you station. I hope to join you Pateron station soon.
I live in a city/neighborhood where I literally haven't seen even one person who is from a subculture except, of course, metalheads, so as you can imagine I haven't had any references, thrift stores are rare and only found in the city center. And thanks to all that and much more, I hesitate to really get into the subculture but it makes me very excited, can someone give me guys for that? PS: I'm sorry if there are spelling, grammar, or typographical mistakes or you just get lost somewhere but I'm using a translator; I'm from Latam
Thanks to you i am not stressed anymore because i felt like i want to be part of thay life style i would be afraid to be judged by people who actually have experience becoming a goth and i am really interested in that even if my mom doesn't want me too 😭im a whole 18

Hello there mate I'm interesting of your videos mate. Is a Goth a Nazi or maybe not?
Totally LOVED this!!!! Keep making more, thank you!!! 😍

You mean people at concerts and festivals nowadays are never 50 plus? Well, I would say that I've met plenty of 50 plus people at such events.

Yes it is. Love the music AND love the darkness.
Next to It's Black Friday, you really are one of the very best ambassadors for the Goth scene. I really love how all your videos are so positive and your always showing the fun side of the Gothic subculture. You sir! , are a star! 🌟👍😎
Such a nice comment :)))
Kenny Logan what about Adora Batbrat.
Love all of the Goth RUclipsrs. Need this in our lives. \m/
She’s actually really terrible. She says you dint need to listen to goth music to be goth and only does hauls and makeup videos and she used to not disclose that her hauls were sponsored.

PREACH! :)
Happy you liked it! And yes, everyone's important for sure :)
For people of color, I would recommend a darker foundation, turn yourself into darkness 😊
a hellenic pagan yes
Fenty Beauty is one of my favorites because it’s catered to all skin tones.
Omg thank you! Blessed be brother or sister
I’m already in the darkness
So goth I was born black ✊🏾
Thank you for being so welcoming and nurturing to baby bats! I agree that it's all about having fun
When I was a baby bat someone was very nice to me. Trying to pay it forward :)
Watching this reminds me back when I was 15 watching youtube videos after I discovered that goth was a thing that described me
As an Decrepit Elder I would definitely recommend to young people go to thrift stores, DIY, learn to sew (doesn’t have to be great).
Don't buy from kill star quality is awful
For POC, I suggest watching Gothic SoulFlower's videos. I recommend her to everyone, really. She knows how to rock a dark complexion with awesome colors. She's so great.
Phoenix Willowbloom Im not a poc but I love her!
As a person of color, tysm for this!
Definitely agree as a POC...
@@solluxcaptor7908 A Homestuck AND a Goth?!? Guess I'm not the only one lmao.
I loved it
Chilling is the key in my book. It's supposed to be fun, not a burden.
Most of us are very welcoming :)
Thanks! I haven't worn it in a while :)
How about Neko Nation in Sydney?
I only wear makeup on special occasions or when I want to play, I don’t do it every day. And I don’t always wear black... but I love goth music (recently been introduced in the past few years) and I’ve always had macabre inclinations :)
Not to mention I also love to wear Lolita and hippie fashion mixed with goth :)
Wow, your space is so minimalistic
I love how he talks like a vampire
I'm a new babybat and seeing this five years after you made it, but thank you for your advice! Super helpful. Love your look!
Thank you for this video. You’re very welcoming.
Hey! Could you do a clothing haul for men's goth fashion. I love the style of your shirt. There's not many hauls or inspiration for guys on RUclips.
I appreciate that this isn’t those kinds of videos that tell you exactly what to wear or what to listen to. Thanks Coal
Thank you for this. Ive always loved the style and dark feel of goth and I’ve been working my way in as of this year lol. Im glad I watched this and glad your genuine. Thank you for Helping this Baby Bat grow!
I've always been fascinated by the Goth Subculture and it's black dark aesthetic. Now I know how to become one, you are very kind thank you.
Your style suits you so well! The vampire vibes are awesome! ♡

*a little goth humor*
Get a goth & get happy!
Go goth & never go back!
Goths make better lovers & I have proof!
Got a goth ? (if not, you need one)
"Hear about the new Tim Burton movie?" "Yea! It's called, 'The 12 Days of Halloween'."
T-shirt that reads: Goth & Loving It!
Goth really isn't a disease, but we can make into one if you want.
*hope those little tidbits of humor make you smile & giggle a little*
Yayyy - spread the goth infection!
Coalcandy :🕸️🕷️☠️💀👻 Spooky Good, Scary Better!
Oh really? Thanks!
I know this is an old video but i loved it . Im new to goth and have no idea what im doing but this video helped
Beautiful video to guide someone coming into the Gothic Kingdom
Your very welcome everyone needs that helping hand 😉
My how-to on any subculture/genre... be true to yourself, respectful of others and enjoy the ride. If you find yourself pigeonholed into a corner, remember it was creativity that brought you there in the first place. In that case, being open-minded and honest with yourself helps.
This is so kind, and genuine. Well done! {In the 80's, Industrial and New Wave was some of my very favorite music!}
Cool! What's your favourites now?
My favorite singing voice will always be David Gahan..Depeche Mode was the first concert I ever went to, unforgettable. I still love the Cure and Siouxie.. they are such nostalgic bands to me now. New Order, classic 80's stuff is what I grew up on. I also like a lot of 90's music, pop, blues, anything I can sing to! ...and thrift stores {though that is not music}.
and ANNIE LENNOX
This video is great! I really liked the 'ambassador' part as well- it's very important to realize that we all represent the subculture and to be your best self!
You are the best person ever, I swear! I am so glad there are still people like you teaching us, and showing us the way. Not shutting us out because we don't know much! Thank you for being so knowledgeable and helpful and also open! As a person of color, this video really meant a lot to me, and has taught me lots! Thank you sir!
From Portland you got it right from my view over here in Oregon, adore you.
I do find it amusing and humbling that we are an international subculture.
Love your videos Simon xx thank you for promoting the sub culture in such a positive welcoming way xx
Your voice sounds like Dracula and that’s so cool 🔥🔥🔥
Haha, really???
You’re so sweet and thoughtful. I felt included. I am a dark skinned goth and when you said you can wear your clothes and still look great you don’t have to rock the pale skin. I was like aw subscribed! Lol
Yay - I'm super happy you feel that way :)
Wow, this is probably the best video about getting into goth I've seen on youtube and I've seen many. Good job!
Really? Thanks!
Thank you for this baby bat guide.
Great video thanks for all the tips and inspiration 👍😀
This is all exactly right! The main thing I always tell anyone that asks me is definitely don't worry what others think - just do want you like and feel good in/with. :) I don't dress up or do my hair every day anymore and I don't have piercings like I used to either - but I still consider it my subculture. Looks aren't everything which I think overwhelms newcomers a lot haha. Also that blouse you're wearing is lovely ♥ The ambassador part is great, I loved that. It's also really awesome to see the differences for me between here (Canada) and over there in Europe. Similarities and differences.
I really loved this video!, I reckon it's all the encouraging I needed!!
Thank you!!!
I’m new just starting out as a goth awesome video
Very good advice as usual, Simon! In the beggining (and sometimes even now), I had a bit of anxiety about not knowing enough about goth music. But thing is, there's so much music that can be considered goth, that no one will ever know ever single thing, and that's ok.
Going bit by bit is always better in my opinion, but the most important will always be "be yourself, no matter what they say", as that song goes!
I love your outlook and advice.
Seven tips for getting into goth? Oh I got one: listen to the music, listen to the music, listen to the music, listen to the music, listen to the music, listen to the music, listen to the music.
such a complete and underrated video...
I just wanna say I love your voice, and you should have a podcast or something! Where are you from if you don't mind me asking?
I'm from Stockolm, Sweden :)
Not a question but totally killing it
Exquisite points. Thank you. I'm usually very cynical and brooding but, I like to have fun. Thank you for inspiring me with great advice. Very inspiring and true facts. By the way I've been in the scene over 20 years. I played in Astrovamps and Willow Wisp. Currently in Black Heroin Gallery.
I wish I would have seen videos like this when I got into the subculture at 13 :) Very well done and I love how supportive and open minded you are 🖤
Thanks1 I hope it can be of help for some youngsters out there!
Simon, you're awesome. This video was perfect!
Very well said I agree, I too am goth have been since I was a teenager in highschool back in the 80's and I am now 50, thank you for doing this video
Wow! Cool to get approval of this video from someone who's been around for so long!
My older sister is apart of the goth subculture and she really has suggested you and other RUclipsrs to get info about this because I'm slowly getting into this
Hi there! Welcome!
Why can't your sister teach you?
You look so smartly dressed today Coalcandy!
Great video. Best guide for beginners on youtube. You should have way more subscribers and likes. Your channel is bullshit free and always creating new content. No unboxings or boring rants. Thank you!
Thanks! You can always help the channel grow by liking and sharing the content. And commenting, like you already did :)
I was the white goth
In 1994. I never fit in. It was too predictable.
Great video. Very well done. I appreciate the mention of people of color in goth culture
Exellent Guide to Goth Sub Culture!
You are a very pleasant person, and I really enjoyed the video! I like the view that you don’t have to be perfect and to not put yourself in a box, thank you for a wonderful video! Much needed.
Thanks so mucg for the lovely inspiring video!
Enjoy your video. You are very open minded. Love your style
Can't wait to show this to my nephew!! Great video simon =)
Thanks for requesting the video!
Beautiful video.good work simon😊👍
Great video, mesured and wise!
Great advice, going to share this with people wanting to get more into goth!
Thxxx!
Love your style🖤 Dark and romantic vamp
I think t the exact some way! Internet is nice, but its not the important part of the subculture.
Very cool👍👍👍thanks Simon😎👍
Wow i liked this!!! If i ever get married i'm gonna have a halloween themed wedding. Just throwing it out there.
I love your idea of making videos. You know how to tell the world about goth culture. You are a role model. You are an inspiration. And the way you're doing this I've never seen before. But I really love it. 🖤🦇
Thanks! Is there anything in particular that you like?
Coalcandy. Hm... how can I explain. First you are a very positive kind of person. And you explain subculture that everyone can unterstand this different world we know as normal. I think no one ever was talking about it like you.
(And Sorry. My english is not the best XD)
Thanks for that video! I have not been in subculture that long and I think your tips will help me to find my way around a little bit more :)
Yay! THis warms my heart to hear!
lol funny that people are still styled like when were were small and growing up around the emerging cultures
I'm a Goth and a metalhead. I've been listening to Goth Rock and Metal for 14 years.
Deathrock, Coldwave, etherealwave, Darkwave etc... I love Black Metal, Death Metal etc to..
My favorite goth bands are:
She Past Away
Bauhaus
Switchblade Symphony
O.Children
Shadow Age
Christian Death etc...
I'm happy you like is and hope that your niece will too!
Welcome to the Candy Army over at Patreon too :)
I love your shirt!
your voice is so vampirey i love it
This was amazing thank you !
I wish my husband dressed like you, I love your style
What a beautiful video love it so much thank you for being who you are .you made my day.
Thanks to you i am not stressed anymore because i felt like i want to be part of thay life style i would be afraid to be judged by people who actually have experience becoming a goth and i am really interested in that even if my mom doesn't want me too 😭im a whole 18
