22:35 The reason it wasn’t done this way is because Mae and Osha are the main protagonists, not the Jedi. This is why the antagonist switches from being Mae to the Jedi throughout the episode. (And yes the Jedi are supposed to be the antagonists) The concept of this show was to tell a story more from the perspective of a dark sider which is why we’re seeing the Jedi in a more villainous light. This murder mystery isn’t about who is killing the Jedi, it’s about who killed Mae and Osha’s people (most likely the Jedi and not Mae). I think this was foreshadowed by Sol when he mentioned that Yord should not let his fear cloud his judgement, it sounded like he spoke from experience. I think it’s most likely that Indara, Torbin, and Kelnaaca decided to burn down the coven that Mae and Osha came from out of fear of their power, similar to how Palpatine feared Mother Talzin and destroyed the Nightsisters. I’m assuming Sol went along with this and covered it up.
The implication is that those 4 Jedi _did_ something, which is why Mae is so hellbent on killing them. What exactly that was, and why they feel guilty about it, is something we'll learn as the story progresses, methinks 🙂
15:55 I think you answered your question with the clip of the Barash Vow. He did drink the poison himself. Maybe that was the path he was waiting for. No one knew Mei was alive, and for him to see her driven by revenge may have made him think that his death would end her vengeance on the Jedi and disavow from becoming a Sith.
New subscriber here. I am glad you are giving it a chance. I wish all reviewers would go into new series with no opinions....all the noise surrounding it doesn't matter, just the show, if that makes sense. Thank you. I'm excited to see what else you have on your channel!
Thank you for the sub and for your comment! I completely see where you’re coming from, I always like to give a show a chance because you never know when it might exceed your expectations. Even though it may not be my absolute favourite so far, I definitely think it has a lot of potential and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes :)
Another great reaction and review vid ATF! I like the show and the mystery is what happened the night of the fire and were the Jedi in the wrong. I also like Sol and Osha. As the show goes on and we learn more, I think we will get to know the other characters as well. Anyways, be well and see ya in the next vid. 🙂
You might be overthinking and connecting this show to the story we all know as Star Wars. Try putting the prequels, trilogy and everything in between out of your mind.
Yeah others mentioned he took some sort of vow as penance for doing something REALLY bad. So that is why he was floating & didn't speak. Also remember this is the High Republic era before all the isolation stuff so they were much more interactive in the galaxy. This is 100 years before the Phantom Menace so things changed quite a bit between now & then in the timeline.
I think they don't want a backstory here as figuring out who is who is what is their motivations, whether they are light, dark are grey and what actually happened on Brandock are part of the mystery. I think that you, we all need to leave a little of the tone archetypes from the trilogy/prequel Skywalker saga in the background. The master is probably the big bad here and Mae, is the mislead / deceived conflicted character who people are trying to save after she has already cross into a dark path.
You have really good points though I would recommend watching some Star Wars Explained just to get a general idea of the High Republic. As they are different from the prequel Jedi. In the sense that they are more one with the people. There a Jedi outpost on the different planets.
I think Manny Jacinto (who is engaged to the actress who plays Skye’s sister in Agents of SHIELD) is the masked Sith master at the end of the first episode.
Hey, Jazmin! The show continues to be a mixed bag. I liked that they elected not to belabor the tired framing plot by having Yord observe Osha's actions surreptitiously in the Temple due to his suspiciousness of her. His precaution was uncharacteristically astute and useful. I continue to like the relationship of Sol and Osha. Lee Jung-jae continues to be a highlight as is Dafne Keen. Manny Jacinto's apothecary was the best part of the episode and I strongly suspect there's more to him than it seems; he may in fact be the Master! I enjoyed the police procedural elements of the story in this episode. The fight between Mae and Sol was pretty good. The Barash Vow meditation is from current comics which was nice to incorporate. Charlie Barnett was given the honor of THE line -- "I've got a bad feeling about this." -- despite not knowing his Anakins from his Lukes! Joonas Suotamo, who played Chewbacca in "Solo" and the Sequel Trilogy, shows up here as Kelnacca. Dean-Charles Chapman, who played Tommen Baratheon in "Game of Thrones", played Master Torbin. What was ridiculous was the lack of security at the Temple including a lack of awareness of evil intent and the subsequent nonchalance of the Jedi in charge. It made no sense not to warn Kelnacca much less take him out of danger but to convene a meeting instead! Vernestra is an idiot! It was very bizarre to see a Jedi commit suicide since any guilt would have been mitigated by their lack of attachment to corporeal concerns. Either what happened on Brendok was truly atrocious or he overreacted in a very un-Jedi-like way. Hopefully, this show builds on its strengths but the next episode is reported to be the one that destroys the franchise forever so we just have to wait and see what Headland has in store. Lol
Have a good time streaming beautiful S01 via D+ when wind-down with it at evenings as episodes drop weekly 🤗 Last night i restreamed S01E01 via D+ & second late today. Done with "65 Led Telly to wind-down 🙂 [Good Soundtrack, Beautiful Aesthetics, Nice Wardrobe. Like Yord & Sol Character. Waiting more of Jecki, Zyggerian Jedi & others] 😋
Jasmin, Headland and KK are rewriting SW in their ideology. Is suicide against the Jedi code? I'm glad you at least questioned it. In Disney/KK SW "The Force is Female." The fighting in this series is Matrix oriented not typical of SW fighting because Headland believes this since she doesn't know the force or Jedi as George defined it. Disney started introducing pronouns in SW, Tales of the Empire in episode 5 after the 4th sister slashed the male Jedi Barris said we can save they/them. Re-watch the scene for yourself, do not take my word for it.

Hahaha! Yeah, I've been cracking myself up with "have trust in Mae" and "have trust in me"
I'm in Kentucky, and one of my best friends had a deep accent.

I had the same questions about Mae reaching for lightsabers. Could've had Indara's saber.

"You could try repolarizing the power couplings" aka "Have you tried turning it off and on again?"
Who else is ready for Tacolyte Tuesdays
He had a force field around him

We can see them transitioning with the brown cloaks showing their fall from the height of power.
@@Iwillone Yeah they called them the field robes vs the Temple robes. So when on missions they would change. All prim and proper in the temples.
One more from Star Wars Explained, they do good overviews and timelines

Yeah, I think there's much more to him. He's hinky.
