  • Why would God choose a murderer, who had disappointed nearly everyone around him, to lead His people out of Egypt? In this sermon from Pastor Tyson Coughlin, we begin the I AM series, tackling why it's not about who WE are, but who GOD IS.
Although Moses was an unlikely leader, and guilty of murder, God was able to use him for miraculous purposes. Even Moses himself doubted his ability. Nevertheless, God showed who He is through Moses weaknesses.

Powerful words indeed.Moses is my favorite servant of the Lord but until today i do not understand why didn't God allowed him to enter the promised land instead He chose Joshua to lead the people in the promised land.

Moses wasn't a murderer. He was rescuing one of his fellow Israelites. When a cop kills a robber trying to kill an innocent person, that cop is a hero, not a murderer. In the same way, Moses was a hero by saving the Israelite. Also, he might not have intended to kill the Egyptian. He might have meant to just knock him out, but hit him a little bit too hard.

I did not listen to this, I was interested in reading the comments and found your comment. Agreed!! Moses was NOT a murderer, I have a strong aversion to Moses being called a murderer. 1. Moses looked around to see if anyone was going to help or leave the poor man to suffer and die. It was obvious to Moses he needed to come to his brother's rescue. Moses knew only too well what this poor man's fate would be, for the oppressed Israelite in Egypt. 2. Moses burying the Egyptian in the sand. 3. the rejection and accusations of Moses fellow Hebrews, 'who made thee a ruler and a judge over us'. This was all the foreshadowing of things to come. 1. Moses would be their deliverer appointed by God. 2. when God directed Israel to cross over, thru the Red Sea, the Egyptians met their own fate. God killed them, he buried them in the sand at the bottom of the sea. 3. Moses, appointed by God to be their ruler and Judge, was met with rebellion, murmuring, accusation and strife by the Israelites at every turn just like he did with the 2 Hebrews. In Num 14 they threatened to stone Moses till God showed up, God defends a murderer? Why did the Lord not bring the incident up at Mount Sinai, the burning bush? Instead He said, 'Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground'. The Lord doesn't let anything slide, He didn't let David's adultery slide. Stephen preaches about this act of Moses in Acts 7, in v24 Stephen backs Moses and said Moses 'avenged him that was oppressed'. Stephen also said it came into Moses heart to visit his brethren. Well I wonder who put it into Moses heart to go there that day? Holy God, that's who and He is a Holy Judge......Stephen was the one to receive the stoning, for preaching the truth. Thank you for your comment 🙂

Perhaps it was not so much a case of God choosing Moses but more a case of Moses choosing God.

HE keeps delivering Us but we keep disobeying HIM. From Pharoah to America. He puts us in the hands of the enemy. In the txt this is how we ended up in the enemies hands.

Something to consider. The Israelites wanted to go back to slavery when God freed them and led Moses to led them, He gave them food and water everyday and guided them and they still made false idols to worship and still wanted to go back to Egypt, and that was with a leader who directly spoke to God. What if There was no one else as obedient as Moses among them that could lead them to freedom thru God. What if God choose someone else and they gave up and lead them back to slavery in Egypt. What if that’s why God waited 400 years to free the slaves.

Moses repented to God of the murder. His repentance was acceptable to God in order for God to use Moses in great service. Just like Saul who later repented and became Paul and was used in great service for God.

As we know from the scriptures, repentance of sin is necessary and is thoroughly advocated in the old and New Testament. For Moses to be a man of God he too had to repent of sin.
