- For the most part, twists in Big Brother are a one and done kind of thing. But, Pandora's Box was an exception as it was a staple from Big Brother 11 through Big Brother 14. Sometimes it was just a funny segment on the show, but other times it was absolutely game altering, so today we will be going through the entire history of Pandora's Box and seeing just how controversial it really was.

I initially liked Pandora's box as it played into Exect the Unexpected in an interesting way and allowed the players some degree of agency, but as it continued to never be rejected or became pretty obvious to me that it was just a farce and it was just a way for production to do something wild and have the players take the blame for it happening instead of them
It's tech in their contract to accept any twist so I've heard that's a reason it hasnt been rejected
I’d like to see Pandora’s Box return with just the silly gifts and punishments. If there’s no game altering twists, they can make it mandatory for the HoH to open it & that would guarantee 1 day of good feeds per week
Especially since we don't get any food or luxury comps anymore, at least not regularly.. the fun, thousand for a Jesse pop up types would be great to see come back.
They could make it more like Lane’s PB where you have this choice of how much you are willing to risk to gain. It’s a fun gamble instead of just someone’s game getting tanked for no reason. That or legitimately allow the tempted houseguest to refuse the offer.
The rule seems to be: if pandoras box offers money, NEVER open it. Only when money is on the line are bad punishments unleashed. Otherwise it's just a fun twist
The money tree for Lane on BB12 had harmless punishments.
For Porsche’s Pandora’s box, I believe the producer completely rigged it. Look at the veto competition, it was pretty much the same competition that Rachel won in week 1. That week was rigged, #shellywasrobbed
And if PB was planned they would have announced it on the episode.

Pretty sure production allowed Rachel to write out that pretzal message cause they wanted to save Brittany that week. Remember that production had already stepped in and said Brendan couldn't nominate Brittany cause uhh rules? I guess the message thing was supposed to push Brenden even further for Matt instead of Brittany. Wouldn't be surprised if production subtly encouraged her to leave out that message either.
Either way it would’ve incentived Matt to play the diamond veto
i believe nobody was allowed to not open the box.
If they bring Pandora's Box back they should use BB24 Michael's idea of if you open it you get immunity for the week after your HoH but in return your HoH reign ends after your initial nominees are made and the Diamond Power of Veto is in play that week.
And of course, this should only be used under the assumption that players actually get to choose whether to open it and are not forced to do so.
So basically it’s like someone losing bob but getting immunity the next week
here is another piece of evidence that, in my opinion, confirms Porshe's Pandora's box was unplanned: Julie usually told us during the live show that Pandora's Box would come the following week. This time she did not announce it. It was the first Pandora's Box of the season but they didn't announce it during the live show like they did most twists. That is why I believe it was unplanned and production only decided to do it after Porshe won HOH.

I always loved Pandora's box as a kid watching BB but I don't remember any of them except S14's, so thank you for doing this little recap video! It's fun to see the changes to each one and how drastic to just fun they can be. I'd be in favor of it returning, but definitely only if it was harmless things like Lane's Box.
The Golden Ball was meant to save Dan, but of course it benefited Ian. Mind you, Dan still was saved that week but we got the legendary funeral which of course is the correct timeline. I wonder what happens in the timeline where Dan wins the golden ball-Ian theoretically can now win the Veto (and honestly Ian is smart enough to pull out the questions and would absolutely take the punishments if it meant keeping him in the house). The question is-Dan obviously saves himself, does Frank then immediately nominate a new replacement or does he have to wait until the POV winner decides whether or not to use it? Because wow that could change the game if the former (Frank would still put up Britney so Ian then takes her off next, then who goes up? Shane or Chef Joe?). Now THAT’s a What If.
It would be nice if there was even just one rejection of Pandora’s box because the way it is now it all feels forced by production
I'm currently watching back each season, and just got to Porsche's Pandora's Box, which I've been anticipating.
Watching it live, I was like, there's no way anyone could be that stupid. But after hearing about production's manipulation of certain things, this was clear. This was the first time I realized bullshit was afoot.
I would have outright refused, no matter what it took. What are they gonna do, kick me off the show? I would have dragged their asses through the mud.
Honestly the box wasnt the problem, the veto pissed me off
I loved this twist minus the game altering powers. I hope they bring it back for the fun of the twist. I would also love to see Mr pectacular return to the house and yes, I realize I'm in a camp by myself on that one. He's funny, arrogant, and very entertaining.

Can you make a video on how natalie lost her season? because it always baffled me considering most of her alliance was in the jury and her pointless lying like about her age etc played a apart of it.
I never understood that TBH. They were upset that she lied about her age.......like why does that bother them so much 😂😂😂 I actually thought she would've won over Jordan, but literally everything she did after they found iut her age, made them hate her even more.
@Asacbe I think people take the "Blood on your hands" thing to personally. If I was in BB and someone in the house is taking shot after shot and succeeding, I would most likely vote for them. They did the work and got people out, the object of the game is to be the last one standing not to make friends and peace with the house and players. A better social game, yes I can see that. It's the lying and blood on your hands thing that I can never get pass. If someone wants to take you out because you are a good player or just happened to noninate you and you got the short end of the stick then that's personal and not even part of tje game. It's one of the many reasons Idk if I can go on BB and not lose my mind over players like that. I can't do the back and forth about morals on Big Brother. It ruins the cutthroat game alot of fans LOVE

@Asacbe Jordan still is benefited from production loving Jeff enough to rig the game, chima quitting and a jury voting for the person they liked over the person that played the best game. Taylor is a flawed winner but didn’t need production influence to win.
@Asacbe kind of. It’s was more Paloma screwed over by a twist to cause Taylor to be targeted. She wouldn’t have gone home because she would have beat Brittany or paloma in the obstacle course.

Pandora's box can be good when it doesn't impact the game, but when it does impact the game, it's awful.
For a twist that lasted only four seasons it certainly made an impact! Different numbers, but it’s similar to exile island in survivor as far as memorability of a twist that came during a second era of the show. Also Jessie was one of my faves, so it was always a delight getting to see him back in the house every summer (for five summers in a row omg)!
I actually would’ve LOVED to have been locked in the Pandora’s box room with that muscle guy 😛😛😛😛

Production probably added the veto to help save one of Dan and Ian. Ian, Dan, and Frank were production's three big breadwinners that season.
I always hated Pandora’s Box, it just helped production favorites (i.e. Rachel, Jordan, Ian, & Matt).

It didnt really help Brittany tho as she got a punishment and had to endure Jesse's workout tips and the house got rewarded. Sentiment still stands though lol. It helped Ian, Matt and Rachel severely.

There's a video topic idea I have actually had in my backpocket for a while now, at least since blockstar Taylor won BB. I don't know if anyone would want to tackle this video topic, though. Do you think you would ever consider making a video talking about all the BB players that either were never nominated throughout the game (or came close to never being nominated in the game) but LOST the final 2 jury vote - or would have lost the final 2 jury vote if they made it.
A few examples of BB players that would fit this description would be:
Danielle - BB3
Paul - BB19
Holly (almost) - BB21
Enzo - BB22
and maybe even... uggghh... Todrick BBC3......
And if you are looking at BBCAN, you also have:
Jillian (sorta) - BBCAN1
Anthony - BBCAN7
and (almost) Haleena - BBCAN10
I don't know. I just think it's curious how a lot of these players can go through many weeks in the game without being nominated, but still not be able to get any respect from the jury.

I think if I were playing I wouldn't be able to resist the temptation to open Pandora's box. maybe it'll screw me out of half a million dollars but I just can't resist the temptation to see what happens. Unless we've suddenly turned into Squid Game or the Hunger Games, nobody is going to die or anything. the worst case scenario is my game is ruined.

I think Pandora's Box was a good idea. Only if the curse and blessing didn't fully impact the game. Like a Claw machine for the entire house to have Diamond Power of Veto....that's a good idea cause everyone who doesn't have it is at risk except who wins it. Or have a season where Pandoras Box comes back, but for the ENTIRE house, whoever opens it unleashes a new challenge. Whoever wins becomes co HOH but with only one nominee each. The POV can't switch that HOHs nominee unless they win POV. Just something that can amp up the game
It's been a decade now, so almost certinally they are not bringing it back. But like the damn pressure cooker, everyone will keep being "certain" it will come back.

Um... If the others had partnered up with Rachel and Jordan, instead of letting those two partner with each other, they STILL could have easily gotten one of them out. They had the numbers for the votes. I blame that on the inferiority of their strategizing than production.
I'm pretty sure the partnering had to be mutually agreed upon, the others couldn't just force Rachel or Jordan to partner with them
