- Pre-existing relationships have been a thing inside the Big Brother house since basically the very beginning. It can be an interesting twist to throw this type of dynamic into the house, but is it good? Today, we'll be looking at the successes and failures of pre-existing relationships on Big Brother.

I still think they should do another X-factor twist season as long as everyone has an ex in the house. It would create drama and provide for some interesting alliances

@@drewbishop9090 I know. I was saying that BB6’s pre existing relationships twist was done well because everybody had a pre existing relationship. BB4 didn’t have that and 3 people didn’t have an exe with them. Sorry, I should’ve made myself clear.
Well i think it would be more interesting if everyone were to not have an ex like in bb4
Because if it were equal it would just be one side vs the other and it would kind of be boring
Because of the unevenness of bb4 it led to the best duo of jun and allison
I think the pre-existing relationships are definitely cooler when they're an actual twist. The twins, BB6, and some of the BB4 exes were cool to watch play out, tbh!
Also random note, Carol & Jessica having a pre-existing 'relationship' over lunch money never fails to crack me up💀
Their rivalry is one of the funniest. Like you have two very legitimate rivals with Donatos and Dustin+Joe, and then for the third you get a lunch money feud? Cracks me up
I wonder how it came in the casting process.
Like the way they find Nakomis and the Exes on BB4 was that they asked about it and the producers found it. And it also happened on BB8, so it funny to think that they asked Jessica that and she said "oh yeah only a woman that still owes me money" and the producers really found them lmao
I wonder if she had someone else as her rival but they dropped last minute so this was the best they could come up with.
Carol left so early yet they kept bringing that up in the house all the way to the end just because they thought it was so stupid.

A little bit more of a stretch, but I think it’s worth mentioning BB18 that Da’vonne’s vendetta against Tiffany’s sister basically led to Da’Vonne obsessively targeting Tiffany to the point of tanking her own game for it.
So it’s a pre-existing second-degree relationship that shaped part of the game.
It still blows my mind that they didn't notice the Christie and Tommy pre-existing relationship OR the Holly and Kat one, feels like an easy instagram search and such lol maybe that season would have gone better had they noticed that but idk if there's any saving for BB21
i think the season was good after the prejury cuz day 44 and jessicas hoh was the turning point that season
I think they did know though? At the very least Christie and Tommy. I remember during the premiere Julie saying something along the lines of "like summer camp, you may run into a familiar face" or something like that.

Let’s be honest here: they noticed. The casters seem to know everything about their houseguests. And if the fanbase easily notices them before the season starts, just imagine how much professionals know about their own cast. I mean they even knew their ex’s in season 4. There is a 0% shot they didn’t know Tommy and Christie has a relationship.
My biggest gripe with all these pre-existing relationships was that production could never keep it consistent. Having a preexisting relationship with someone adds such a HUGE extra layer to the game, but CBS' casting could NEVER keep it consistent with the exception of BB6. Trying to compare estranged family to lunch money was WILDLY uneven, and only giving 5 out of the 8 houseguests an ex back in season 4 felt SO unfair.
I'd really love to see another preexisting relationship twist in the future. Better than the random duo / battle of the block stuff.
Super late comment I know but that moment with Tommy talking to Christie in the shower was priceless! Made me laugh hardest out of everything I’ve seen of these videos. Good find.
HA HA HA HA OMG Why'd you have to do me like that?? You didn't even touch on Dustin getting evicted after nominating himself as a pawn. "A courtesy flush" as he said. I had totally forgotten they used Nate's interviews on the show as well. Oh man. Thank you and great videos as always.
If you had asked me today who I thought would comment on this video I certainly would not have expected it to be Joe Barber! I was mostly going over these relationships while they were both in the house together and the impact their dynamic had, but you’re right, totally could have at least touched upon that 😂 for what it’s worth I got such a kick going back and watching your hammock scene with Dustin while getting footage for this, truly made that week on the show super interesting (also “immaculately conceived gonorrhea” is an A+ line, I’m finished now)
@@Ethanimale Thank you so much!! The hammock scene is classic pettiness on my end, but still funny to watch it play out. Also, immaculately conceived gonorrhea definitely had America googling symptoms. Funny story, there were three edits of that opening episode according to production: one where they bleeped and blurred the word and my mouth, one where they said it only once, and then the edit that went to air where they just let it fly!! I am happy with the one they aired, because if they had bleeped it, it could have sounded much worse :)

BBOTT is clearly the black sheep of the franchise so I understand why you didn’t want to include it, but it’s impressive that siblings Morgan and Alex managed to hide their pre-existing relationship the whole time.
Even though Alex left relatively early, the bonds and friendships they both formed early on helped position Morgan pretty well for the latter half of the game.

The guinea pigs, while funny, still irks my soul. Also, I remember when it was (to my recollection) speculated that Kat and Holly “knew” each other, or ran the same circles, outside the house but never thought it was proven… well, until I saw your videos. I just thought they were part of the same scene, but didn’t actually know it. Then again, I never rewatched 19 after it aired, so my memory is really foggy but it. But I clearly remember that fight .
I obviously meant 21… it’s been a long day.

I don't think they ever considered the possibility someone would get it right.
It was a bit hypocritical that Christie was so critical of Holly possibly knowing Kat and blew up their alliance over it when her and Tommy knew each other. They could have just said it doesn’t matter.

Joe needs to come back so badly on the show 😂 he was so entertaining. Arguably one of the best DR confessional givers ever, even though we only had him for two weeks
Joe was also so open about the fact that he was stirring the pot. He didn't even try to hide it. While not a good gameplayer, he was very entertaining for the short time he was in the game.

How did i not realize so many of the earlier seasons had players with pre existing relationships 😱!? Production always loved secret duos since season 2 when Danielle and Jason made theirs. Maybe the show tried replicating that

Personally I really like all the personal relationships featured in seasons 8 and before, post that I personally didn't like any of the relationships featured post that aside from the Nolan's in season 17.
After Season 8, it just kind of well went down-hill.
Outside of BB9 (and the Nolan Twins) I don't really think production liked the idea of pre-existing relationships anymore which is why they haven't really been intentionally featured since
BB12- Didn’t Britney and Kathy know each other outside of the house? It was never addressed on the show, but I thought I heard somebody say that they knew each other.
Paul and Raven knew each other as well.
I think there was a rumor that Kathy was Britney's mom or something, which was not true. Maybe something different though

Don't forget Ollie taking Dan's deal which led to replacement nominee roulette. Also, Nathan using the veto on Alison, and indirectly backdooring his closest ally, David. Which also led to his eviction a couple weeks later.

Bb21's knowing each other thing was done on on purpose. It's the summer camp theme. People knowing each other or having strange common similarities (ovi and mickey)

Out of curiosity, did BB18 Da'Vonne knowing Tiffany was Vanessa Rousso's sister not count? I only ask because I know Day recognized that relationship, but I don't know if that means they actually met in person.
I don't think Vanessa really interacted with her cast all too much after BB17, which really restricts the probability that Tiffany and Da'Vonne met, whereas I know that Paulie and Nicole had met at one point
