  • Big Brother has a tendency to try and spice up the game by giving out powers. However, sometimes, the powers are a load of garbage. Here are 5 of the most useless powers in Big Brother history.

I actually consider the ring of replacement to be one of the show’s best balanced powers. Yes, it was useless in comparison to the other two powers, but that speaks more to how OP those powers were. Yes it was less useful since Christmas had a broken leg, but that’s not really the advantage’s fault.
Like you said, it can be used both to prevent a backdoor plan against you or to make backdooring someone else much easier. It also can be used at any point in the season, which is rare, as most powers have an expiration date of 4 weeks or less. In other words, it lacks raw power, but compensates with sheer versatility.
Daniele’s “replay” power is another I think is decent overall but was just situationally useless. The ability to play two HoH’s in a row doesn’t mean much when your alliance is already sweeping comps, but it is something everyone would clamor towards in seasons 4, 6, 11, 13, or even 17 and 20
My picks for the most useless advantages would be the ability to remove votes in both 17 and 18, Corey’s bribe in BB18, and Mark’s “save a friend’ in BB19. All of these can be useful in specific situations, but were limited in the fact that they could only be used the week they were earned, which significantly reduces the chance of you finding yourself in those specific situations. They’d all be fine if they could be held on to and used in the next 3 or 4 evictions

    • @staceynainlab888
      @staceynainlab888 Год назад +5

I had forgotten the save a friend power. he couldn't use it on himself, he had to use it on someone else. since he was completely without allies at that point, it was rendered completely useless. the bribe power has some usefulness in theory but it is hard to find the right way to use it. it ended up being used to get someone to do what they were going to do anyway

    • @nicjoy4407

Yeah the ring of replacement actually sounds balanced, maybe even a bit strong on paper. It just sucked in that extreme situation, and is 100 times worse than the other powers it was paired with.

What I found weird about the Coin if Destiny power was that you apparently had to "flip a coin" in order to actually dethrone the HOH, or something. Think about it. The ring of replacement wasn't a terrible power. Cody was a strong competitor and having him sit out stunted Jessica's ability to win the veto. They were huge targets so Christmas swapping herself with Cody and being injury-handicapped was a big F U to Jess and Cody.

the purpose of the ring of replacement was to stop someone from playing. Christmas didn't get to play in the veto but she got to stop Cody from playing and that helped hers and Paul's game. I found the halting hex more useless. It cancels a round in the game but you are no further ahead. In order to be further ahead, someone else has to get eliminated. the halting hex meant she stayed another week but still is in the same position as before, no closer to winning because nobody else got eliminated.
a power I found useless was the chopping block roulette. No wonder only one person chose to play for it. You get to take someone off the block and then the replacement nominee is chosen at random and could be one of your allies, which is what happened. You have no control over the replacement and you are forced to take someone off the block, the only part you have a say in is which nominee comes off the block.
the pick a veto reminds me of the power that allowed the player to upgrade the veto to the diamond power of veto, but the player wasn't guaranteed to win the veto and the power was only useful if they or an ally won the veto.
the silver power of veto was a great screwup on the part of production. to this day, the veto is rarely used for any reason other than to take oneself off the block. occasionally it is used by someone on the block to take the other player off the block, usually for personal reasons rather than strategic because there is zero strategic advantage to keeping yourself on the block if you don't have to. sometimes it is used by someone who isn't on the block to save a friend but not very often. the majority of the time it is only used if someone on the block wins it to save themselves. if they can't save themselves, they have no incentive to win. the only way taking the other person off the block might be strategically advantageous is to get a bigger target put up next to you. in general, people on the block are not incentivized to win the veto if they can't directly save themselves with it. I think production realized they mucked up by not allowing players to save themselves with the veto, so they upgraded to golden veto and never looked back.
the replay power in the hands of someone who may or may not get to use it as HOH was dumb. I think a better way to implement this power would have been to have three weeks where each week the HOH got a chance to win it.

I kind of think this is what all big brother powers should be. I don’t want big game shakeups. I don’t want a second veto comp for no reason. I sure as hell don’t want this weeks HOH to be at a huge disadvantage for no reason. Just small little boons here and there that the players can use in circumstantial situations to help them out just a little. Especially the ring of replacement, that ones like perfect. Same with pick a veto but everyone knows that one’s good.
Also it’s kind of weird to me the powers are always focused on the gameplay side of the game and not like… surveillance stuff. Seems like it would be more balanced but also dramatic in a way production would like. “Pick a player, then pick from a numbered list of their diary room entries in chronological order” would work really well.

Josh should NOT have won that season. I mean Paul controlled the game the entire season. Easily the saltiest jury of all time. They didn't vote for Josh to win, they voted for Paul to lose. I mean you got outplayed, you trusted a snake. He is on the same level as Dan and Will. He did not touch the block (Albeit, that was due to a power) he got a girl with a broken leg to win a veto, he got a guy who was on the block to throw, he got the whole house listening to EVERYTHING he said. He has proven to be one of the best players to ever play the game. Yet you get a sour jury and it does not come down to who played a better game, it came down to who do you hate the least.

I wouldn't have regretted not voting Paul if I was on the jury, because whether you like it or not, the fact of the matter is that BB is ultimately a social game, and how you manage the people you put on the jury matters, which was the one huge flaw in Paul's game that season, plus I do have to give credit to Josh for figuring out that he could use the goodbye messages offensively in order to expose Paul's game to the jury on their way out. Not to mention that Paul feigning innocence even in the goodbye messages...yeah, I know Jason wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but even he wasn't going to buy that Paul suddenly went from having full control of the game to mysteriously being in the dark during his eviction, so why bother to lie about that even in the goodbye messages? All that accomplished was to piss Jason off by assuming he really was that dumb as to believe Paul's lies, therefore losing him one vote before he even got to the end

Paul gave the worst attempt at getting votes at the finale I've ever seen. From the obnoxious face pulling to not taking responsibility for what he did. His answers weren't even coherent. Josh meanwhile gave a professional performance. It's like Josh and Paul swapped personalities during the jury questioning.
