I personally am not interested in seeing some random person fail. not good to watch, and not inspiring at all, doesn't promote a healthy message nor portray goals. that's just bullying. that's why we put "ideals" in marketing, it's all about goals.
In the spreadsheet, they list modified pushups as well. And if that's still too much, you can train by using a doorframe at an incline and work your strength up.
Also try starting out with the later half of a push up… Just the down part until you gain enough strength to do a proper one, you’ll get there if you really want to
I agree with all 9 tests except the last one grip strength. I think it should have the size of the hand or the arm length in the calculation along with age and sex. Thank you.
people with longer fingers and larger hands tend to have greater grip strength. This is because grip strength is directly related to hand size. Explanation Hand size Larger hands and longer fingers are associated with greater grip strength. This is because the muscles in the hand and forearm perform the gripping action. Finger length In sports like basketball and handball, longer fingers can improve the accuracy of throws and shots. Forearm strength The strength of the forearms is also a significant factor in grip strength.

The way you described the one leg stance: hooking your raised leg round your standing leg makes this really difficult... on the spreadsheet you then say free floating, which is much more achievable!
@@johnames6430 no shot, wrapping it means you cant use that leg for balance. theres a reason when balance people usually have their arms out, same goes for leg if you are only on one leg

The "Don't Die" movement is just the beginning. I suspect that being 'fit and healthy' was simply according to their pill pushing doctors. 😑 We recently found out what a liar our past two doctors were. The term rotting from inside comes to mind. I hope we've caught it in time!
I think none of these tests are good for longevity at all. It can make you feel better by scoring high and you'd easily crush it if you are an amateur gymnast but e.g. gymnasts suffer lifetime joint pains once they retire. I have always said, average is the best. Nevertheless I enjoyed the video

I call that half a pushup, when your nose touches the mat that's a pushup to me. Still that was amazing tbh, I'll have to try it like that and see how many I can do.
Also I think she was doing the pushups too fast which helped boost the amount she could do. But since she got so far above the goal, even if she had done them slower and all the way down it's clear that she would have still beaten it.
@@keithnichols6867 Yeah, you're right. Don't crank them out; go slower; you'll get more out of them. I guess if the goal was to do as many as possible she played it right though, fast reps, half rom.
Push-ups are indicators of psysicall condition, you gain psysicall condition by working out, working out age your body by cortizol (stress). Reactions time and grip strenght sounds the most legit. Flexibility and balance tests could be influenced by muscles imbalance and height-weist ratio can be variable because of body porportions. I am steptical overall.

judging biological age based on physical fitness is like saying the concord is younger than the new 787 because it flies faster not the best analogy but there are more important parameters like telomeres, arteries, how healthy the cells are, the performance can be good even when the cells are old and telemoeres are short and arteries are about to give up ok here is a good example: 5 years ago I could only do 20 pushups. I trained for a year and brought it up to 40. But I was actually more healthy when I only could do 20 push ups because I was thinner and the rest of my body was younger for sure since I aged a year in that time now I can hear you say: "yes, only your muscles who can do the 40 pushups are younger now the rest is older" but the cells of the muscles are older and aged even though there are more of those muscle fibers now or whatever
Hello. This channel is good but I agree. Some of the things on it are still very vague or even unnecessary. But he does alter things as he goes along. I've never seen him be stubborn about anything when he is told otherwise about anything. For this biological age thing, the real biological age for anyone, in my opinion, is what is shown on the markers for someone who is in peak health at any chronological age, so he has it backwards. Someone in top physical health at 30 years old would have a biological age of 30 in my book, and anyone in worse shape at thirty would have a higher biological age. It's just semantics but I think also just more accurate. It's like measuring temperature. Kelvin is the correct temperature gauge because it has an absolute zero, whereas saying something is negative degrees, this is just nonsensical terminology. Have a nice day!
@@californiaplant-basedeater2761 Disagree with that. Someone in top physical shape at 30 would be more akin to someone several years younger when it comes to how their body is aging.
of course, it's nonsense for the most part, how many push-ups you can do? Laughable... this is great for low IQ people who might watch this channel but based on many of the comments I see there's quite a few high-level guys here.
@@luxefalcon2730 A minimum amount of aging will always be happening, and whatever the lowest possible rate is at any age, to me, that is what the biological age baseline should be. The way you and Bryan describe it, it's that way just because they said so, and they do so in order to create this mumbo jumbo Benjamin Button talk about "reversing" age. It's more like reversing the reversing (of someone aging too quickly) back to normal than how they try to put it. They are just marketing, in a way that sounds like boomer science if you ask me, all to create a catchphrase of reversing age.
Great video Bryan! Can I suggest a follow-up video where you outline what you’d recommend for people to improve each metric? Would be useful to some I’m sure!
This is so excellent! Thank you for putting this together and sharing with us. A really great way to assess your baseline and "systematically improve your performance."
This is about as accurate of a health test as a weight scale that "measures" health metrics. Some gamer that eats junkfood but goes to the gym, will have great metrics here, but age fairly poorly.
@dennisjames9091 junk-food eaters have normal bodyfat percentages at best, not good ones. Normal bodyfat percentages is bad bodyfat percentage. Bad is the standard. He will age poorly due to the bad ingredients in junkfood and the fact that his bodyfat percentage is too high to age well. Also anything that wasn't mentioned in the description doesn't exist. You can't just add "but maybe he does this and that" to a fictional character. That's not how it works.
This reminds me of the physical fitness tests we did in grade school. Not perfect measures of health (doesn't account for human variations, like limb proportions), but a good place to start and to track your personal progress (basically comparing yourself to yourself at different points in time).
Just a guess, it could be that this somewhat replicates the testing methodology used by the fitness chart that Brian refers to for pushups. If she can do 40 of these 2/3 pushups on command I'm sure she has the strength to bang out a good set at full range of motion.
@@NateMunk aye just like it'll be easier as a kid potentially; you weigh nothing and your weight is distributed a lot more equally than when you're in your 20s!
Yes, because in the real world, people expect a full range of motion for push-ups in competitions, demonstrations, military or similar scenarios. Half reps are acceptable if you're injured or just starting out, or part of a drop set but otherwise, there’s no excuse for not performing them properly. She completed 40 half push-ups, so I would estimate she could perform 20 to 25 full push-ups, which is quite impressive.
Hey there fellow don’t die’r I’d love to see this video too but in the meantime as others already have, let me suggest some exercises: AMRAP sessions are great for your goals. For starters tho just do stair master and the seated cardio row machine. If you have none of these: AMRAP pushups, squats, sit-ups, burpees, jumping jacks
Oh, that is easy. Just go down to 7% body fat. And do a lot of HIIT on a peloton (assuming you are going to test VO2-max on a peloton. If the test is on a treadmill, practice on that instead) and do not exercise your arms at all, only legs. Horrendous for your health. Vo2-max is just a bad test. It claims to be testing one thing, but it does not. They use your mass in the equation, and they only engage a subset of muscles. So it is not the "single best measure" because it is not a single measure. Far better would be oxygen utilization relative to lean mass. Still, I don't think even that would be as useful as it is touted to be. The reason it is an effective cheat of a measure is because it punishes body fat, while rewarding muscle mass, though, even there, it punishes having muscle not involved in the test. The real problem with this is that it makes it appear you are healthier if you have less fat than optimal, even driving some people to get very unhealthy and possibly even kill themselves. It also serves to discourage heavier people from exercising, not correctly measuring the mitochondrial gains or strength gains or lung efficiency gains from exercise...which should be reflected in a real measure of what it pretends to measure. What might be interesting is using a Multi-Axis Trainer (MAT) in combination with oxygen utilization. Those are those 3-axis gimbals large enough to contain a human being and are used for cardiovascular workouts and balance training or just something to try at a carnival, but originally for Astronaut training. I think that uses more muscles more fully than anything I have ever done. It even works all those little muscles between your ribs, you normally only feel if you have a bad, persistent cough for a few days. Trying to get those things moving fast is a huge amount of work. Don't trash your health chasing a dubious number. Improving this only makes sense relative to body fat. Reducing body fat is of course positive if you are obese or overweight by body fat percentage charts. If you are "normal", I don't think there is any legitimate science showing lower body fat is actually healthier. It may look better to some people, but it really does not matter. More important is inflammation, blood pressure, resting heart rate, arterial plaque, coordination, core strength, balance, skin health, kidney health, liver health, lung health, gut health, brain health, sensory health, and a hundred other things. In fact, lowest all-cause mortality is right at the division between "overweight" and "normal." You would think it would be in the middle of normal or right near under weight. It isn't. And it certainly is not the under 10% some people think is best.
We have young people with weakened bodies dying youg at the age of 40-45yold mainly people living in cities and old people with stronger bodies for their ages outthere dying at 105yold, mainly farmers. People habits are very important to see who will live longer.
If you are right handed, your left side is non dominant, left handed, right side is non dominant. The non dominant side is always a bit weaker, and it's the first to be cut off by the brain during a heart attack or stroke to save the rest of you.

A lot of people dunk on him, but we should just wait and see. We are all afraid of dying, mainly because we dont know what awaits us, so why not give him a chance?
Just watching his videos and implementing the free steps would be more than enough for the majority of people, because we often cant even get the basics right, like a regular high quality sleep.
I look forward to his journey. Few things currently interest me, but Bryans mission is a noble one and sooner or later we all will think about longevity and health. All of us.
Nice career change from solid-state nanopores! I spent 5 years pursuing a PhD in that topic, it is a field where it is very difficult to make progress to real applications due to fabrication difficulties and reproducibility issues with experiments. Hope you enjoy your new role. :)

She has kind of a body composition of someone who attend gym on a regular basis. Not surprised at all by her results to be honest. Would have been better if they picked up a random person in a park or street and ask them to do this test as well, or another random girl around her age as well for better comparison.
I personally am not interested in seeing some random person fail. not good to watch, and not inspiring at all, doesn't promote a healthy message nor portray goals. that's just bullying. that's why we put "ideals" in marketing, it's all about goals.

I was never able to do ANY pushups I guess I'm dead xD
In the spreadsheet, they list modified pushups as well. And if that's still too much, you can train by using a doorframe at an incline and work your strength up.
Ya I’d say so
Plus she’s 4 feet tall her arm span is a few inches shorter you are easier it is
@@Andrew-ft8lkI’ve just seen it, that’s brilliant thank you
Also try starting out with the later half of a push up… Just the down part until you gain enough strength to do a proper one, you’ll get there if you really want to
Incredible! The positive impact you are making on society is boundless. Keep up the fantastic work!
I agree with all 9 tests except the last one grip strength. I think it should have the size of the hand or the arm length in the calculation along with age and sex. Thank you.
people with longer fingers and larger hands tend to have greater grip strength. This is because grip strength is directly related to hand size.
Explanation
Hand size
Larger hands and longer fingers are associated with greater grip strength. This is because the muscles in the hand and forearm perform the gripping action.
Finger length
In sports like basketball and handball, longer fingers can improve the accuracy of throws and shots.
Forearm strength
The strength of the forearms is also a significant factor in grip strength.

She REALLY crushed it because the standard for women is the knee pivot pushup ("girl pushups").
no she crushed it because she knows about all these tests and has been probably been practicing, there is no way a woman like this would agree to do these on camera unless she knew she would perform off the charts.
@@johnames6430 Exactly lol.
It's not standard in the military.
Practice or not, she's strong. Just look at her body lol. And pecs are pretty weak in women. Impressive pushup performance.

The way you described the one leg stance: hooking your raised leg round your standing leg makes this really difficult... on the spreadsheet you then say free floating, which is much more achievable!
wrapping the leg around makes it easier I think
@@johnames6430 no shot, wrapping it means you cant use that leg for balance. theres a reason when balance people usually have their arms out, same goes for leg if you are only on one leg

I absolutely love, love, love everything that BJ is doing, however I know of so many individuals that were extraordinarily "fit and healthy," who would have crushed these tests yet were dead in months after a cancer diagnosis. The "Don't Die" movement is just the beginning. We need to get a handle on identifying and eliminating the true causes of these catastrophic and deadly diseases that strike even the seemingly healthiest of individuals.
I suspect that being 'fit and healthy' was simply according to their pill pushing doctors. 😑 We recently found out what a liar our past two doctors were. The term rotting from inside comes to mind. I hope we've caught it in time!
Yep. Our viral load is at the root of inflammation. We have to tackle that too.
I think none of these tests are good for longevity at all. It can make you feel better by scoring high and you'd easily crush it if you are an amateur gymnast but e.g. gymnasts suffer lifetime joint pains once they retire. I have always said, average is the best. Nevertheless I enjoyed the video

40 pushups is wild for a woman
The reaction time test needs a standardised device, as the response time of a display can range from like 20ms to 500ms
I call that half a pushup, when your nose touches the mat that's a pushup to me. Still that was amazing tbh, I'll have to try it like that and see how many I can do.
Yep, but still impressive indeed, very fit.

From Tech Guru to Longevity Influencer
Congratulations on your Documentary! I watched it twice now.
Should I stop exercising bc it ages me

judging biological age based on physical fitness is like saying the concord is younger than the new 787 because it flies faster
not the best analogy but there are more important parameters like telomeres, arteries, how healthy the cells are, the performance can be good even when the cells are old and telemoeres are short and arteries are about to give up
ok here is a good example:
5 years ago I could only do 20 pushups. I trained for a year and brought it up to 40. But I was actually more healthy when I only could do 20 push ups because I was thinner and the rest of my body was younger for sure since I aged a year in that time
now I can hear you say: "yes, only your muscles who can do the 40 pushups are younger now the rest is older" but the cells of the muscles are older and aged even though there are more of those muscle fibers now or whatever
Bryan is a well-meaning grifter
Go Lauren, go!❤
This is so excellent!
I'm so out of shape at the moment but scored .20 (fastest) and 0.25 in most of my reaction time tests.
@johnames6430 I scored .23 💅
He did mention that in the video at the end
No, a junk-food eating gamer that goes to the gym will not age poorly. Especially if he does cardio too and if he has a normal bodyfat percentage.
Thank you! It was fun to check! I am happy about the results!
I can't believe it. The ad that played for me before watching was a McDonalds ad...
yeah thats normal targeted ads are very effective on an audience "trying" to be healthy.
RUclips being evil! I get life insurance adds during a holistic doctor's channel I follow. 😭
McDonalds trolling 😂
This reminds me of the physical fitness tests we did in grade school. Not perfect measures of health (doesn't account for human variations, like limb proportions), but a good place to start and to track your personal progress (basically comparing yourself to yourself at different points in time).
2:33 Why are you cutting out the bottom half (most effective) part of the rep range with the tape?
Just a guess, it could be that this somewhat replicates the testing methodology used by the fitness chart that Brian refers to for pushups. If she can do 40 of these 2/3 pushups on command I'm sure she has the strength to bang out a good set at full range of motion.
Wow, both enlightening and reassuring. Thank you! Sending to family and friends. It’s fun to see what can be worked on. :)
Wow this pushup graph makes no sense. Youre stronger in your 20s than teens, but the teen limit is higher.
Stronger yes, but also probably a lot heavier. 😆
@@NateMunk aye just like it'll be easier as a kid potentially; you weigh nothing and your weight is distributed a lot more equally than when you're in your 20s!
And I only have to do 8 - which I can do with ease - because I am 72. Surely the aim is to stay able to do more than that.
Thank you as always for a 10/10 video Bryan!
The push-up test is meaningless without proper form. Remove the tape and do chest to floor and stop half-repping.
Its not meaningless if its a comparison to other people using that same form with the tape.
Well done Lauren!!!!!!
Please make a video for how to increase VO2 max.
start high intensity cardio
just run more
Hey there fellow don’t die’r
I’d love to see this video too but in the meantime as others already have, let me suggest some exercises: AMRAP sessions are great for your goals. For starters tho just do stair master and the seated cardio row machine. If you have none of these: AMRAP pushups, squats, sit-ups, burpees, jumping jacks
vo2 mmmaaaaxxxxxx, there you go simple.
Excellent!!! This is the kind of challenge that helps people stay motivated to be their very best. 👍✌👌

7:43 ???? Non dominant leg? Well that's a new one
If you are right handed, your left side is non dominant, left handed, right side is non dominant. The non dominant side is always a bit weaker, and it's the first to be cut off by the brain during a heart attack or stroke to save the rest of you.
If she was an athlete in her youth her non dominant leg would have been her plant leg for kicking, etc. That leg is often more stable
