What do you think of the New Skoda Octavia? Let me know! Also you should definitely check out my Skoda Kamiq Review after this! 😀 ruclips.net/video/k19bsmF1BZc/видео.html
I love it. Love the review, and the car. What I love most about the new Octavia is the styling. I'm a fan of liftbacks - I currently drive a Ford Mondeo Titanium - because it combines the styling of a sedan with the practicality of a hatchback. The sequential indicators and fancy LED headlights and taillights combine to make this a very attractive car. But having had a car with power adjustable front seats and steering wheel with three position memory, I don't think I can go back to manual adjustment. I'd be more than happy to buy one if I decide to replace my Mondeo, but I'd get the Style or the Limited Edition, not the base model.
Thanks for the review. Very interesting to see how the specifications are so different in Oz as compared to the UK. Mine is exactly one year old (registered in Sep 2020), as it is a 1.5L SEL TSI First Edition. It suppose to have a lot of optional extras included but my trim doesn't have the sequential indicators nor parking assistant. But I do have the big infotainment screen and most of the bells and whistles. One thing I missed in the MK4 Octavia is the under seat storage on the passenger side. I really enjoy driving it, though with the lockdown, it has only done 2800 miles so far. The mileage is not too bad, either. I get about 67mpg on motorways. There are some software problems known like not able to change units from Imperial to Metric (not a problem in Australia...?) and odd popping sounds on the infotainments system and the associated activation of the SOS emergency call.
I am contemplating - Skoda Octavia Style vs Mazda 6 Touring My neighbor has a slightly higher budget and contemplating - Mazda 6 Atenza vs Sonata N-line vs Peugot 508 Features top priority for both of us. Power and acceleration not make or break for us as we would use them as family car. Any ideas which ones best in their category?
Probably best small to medium family as VW german engineering with the the practicality of Skoda who utilise space most effectively. Would love to own the VRS version one day.
Great review thanks. I'm a long term Skoda owner ( currently I own a 2018 RS) Two niggles - no blind spot warning and no folding mirrors. I can live with the mirrors but Skodas all have biiiiiig blind spots...blind spot warning is a must have) My questions Matt: does this base model have this blind spot warning? Do the mirrors fold? Finally, is the rear suspension torsion beam? Appreciate your help because Skodas are having real supply issues on the Gold Coast and I can't get my hands on a non RS. Thanks
Great review Matt, loved the way you have presented it. One point though is the map lights are not touch, we can use it with gestures as well. I own a ambition wagon, so have tried that.
Thank you for reviewing the base model - this is exactly what I wanted to find and I think I now just need to convince the wife that this is a good idea xD
The biggest disappointment for me is some of the safety features are only available in option packs on the Style at $45k. It seems unnecessary and greedy by SkodaAU. A slap in the face to safety.
Skoda AU is Volkswagen AU, as the brand is under VW control here in Australia, so it's a VW decision. Perhaps (at a guess) to keep Skoda sales numbers low and not eat too far into VW's own sales?
@@rickb314 I dont think that logic makes sense though. Skoda buyers turned off, don’t automatically purchase a VW instead. VAG would be mad to “push buyers away” deliberately with over pricing or bad options packs. A sale is a sale for all VAG brands, they’d be mad to play those sort of games.
@@timmarks8941 I agree with you Tim it seems strange but honestly until the brand is under independent (or self) control in Australia VW are going to, as you'd expect, seek to maximise Skoda profits and that means expensive options packs that I believe wouldn't be so expensive if Skoda had control over the competitive pricing of its own products. The situation down under is exacerbated by tight short term supply issues with Skoda vehicles reaching our shores due to their popularity in Europe right now ie no incentive for prices to be sharper.
@@rickb314 I was strongly considering a new Octavia until I saw that Lane assist, emergency assist, blind spot and rear traffic alert are all part of a “Luxury Pack” for the style which takes it to $45k. Get stuffed Skoda AU.

Really like the way it looks, not overstyled!
Fantastic review man, Skoda as a whole is still quite underrated when they're just 🔥🔥
Loved the review. I'm signing up for mine tomorrow! You've convinced me to go the poverty pack. Thanks!
Congratulations Richard! I cannot recommend enough, what colour will you go for?!

Skoda really making some of the last great value cars out there imo, great review!
Absolutely agree!
Thanks so much for this video! Bought a skoda as a result of you and your incredible reviews and couldn't be happier with the purchase!
Now I am seriously considering buying it. It’s so much loaded for 36k on road. Passat has got some serious deals going as well though

Unpopular opinion = Skoda is underrated
I agree 🙂
RS in my driveway. Managed to snag mine for 44000. Pre-facelift, but mechanically the same. It is extremely fun for what it is
Love your reviews, been looking for a good Aussie review of this car for a while! Keep them coming
Love your reviews Matt. Full of relevant information, non pretentious and very entertaining. Love it!👌
Can’t wait for the Octavia VRS review…

Excellent review of the Octavia! Also, I’d love to see a review of the Superb 162TSI - I think the Superb’s an excellent large car

Adore the fastback feature, all sedans should have it! Love the lighting too😎

It's a shame you don't get the dsg, I have the the 7speed DSG. It's very good, works well with the 2l tsi.

I'm impressed with the specs and features that comes with tee price!
Haha me too!

In Europe we get a 1ltr 3 cylinder 110hp engine on the base model.
Seems like he is enjoying the car. This really says how good this car is. I wonder if you can make a comparison video of this vs Camry
Love to get your opinion of the RS, I test drove one and couldn’t fault it.
I'll look into it!
Loved the review...and ur expressions are as exciting as new octavia is
Can we please get a review of the RS?? Also this or Mazda 3 sedan?
Ooh tough call, if you want a budget family hauler it's hard to look past this for all you get! I'll check in with the RS 🙂
great review mate, getting one in 4 weeks

What do you prefer this Octavia Ambition or the i30 Sedan Elite?
Bloody good review !
Love the review - like the rest of your videos!
Thank you!
I don't think the Sedan looks particularly good whereas the wagon looks great. Does it have a belt or chain timer?
I love the wagon!

It certainly can get quite $$ if you add options! Still a good safety suite IMO

Wonderful car for those with no insecurity issues
The base model probably does have navigation, the SD card probably wasn’t inserted because the car hasn’t been sold yet
The big question... how reliable is that 1.4L engine?
The seat leon is basically the same car, but looks a bit better in the estate format, and has nicer lights. Also is about 1k cheaper
In Australia? Where?
@@CollinBaillie in the rest of the world.

It is in Australia. Our models are a bit better specced than the european models.
