I literally can't wait for you to watch the rest of Thor's story (or really Loki's since he's my favorite character). You're so right with Loki's character!! He's so fun and interesting because he's complex. I can't wait for you to see more of that!! I love dissecting his character and I'm excited to see your take on him as well!
Fantastic reaction and really great analysis of the character dynamics and psychology! You gave the perfect explanation of why Jane and Thor's relationship makes sense too. Well done! Your attention to detail is going to be rewarded as you move forward. Can't wait to continue this journey with you.
I think this was the first MCU film I fully watched. The defining moment that sold me on it was Loki's scene confronting Odin about his true heritage. Tom Hiddleston's performance was perfection. The Thor/Loki dynamic is so complex and interesting and one of the best in the MCU imo. And even though I've long shipped Loki and Jane when it comes to fanfic, in canon, I do also fully ship Thor/Jane and think they're a great match. And I agree, Asgard's gorgeous. I'd totally wanna live there. I just genuinely cannot believe it's been 12 years since this came out. Seriously feels like yesterday. 🤯
11:42 When your King (who is also your father) says stand down, you stand down. Attacking the Frost Giants was not Thor’s call to make. Odin was well within his rights to smack Thor around like this.
As I catch up on some of your previously released videos I thought you might enjoy the fact that the Defense against the Dark Arts teacher Professor Lockhart (the Dandy) is the same person whom directed THOR. (and Cinderella 2015 which I enjoyed).
11:01 I always say this movie is just a family drama with superpowers. When Odin made that growl it said so much. Loki knew right away to shut up and be quiet. Why? Because Daddy Odin got a bag full of butt whuppings to hand out.
Since 2008 or so, special effects haven't gotten much better. They have, however, gotten much easier! So the top-tier effects are just as good then as now. It's the lower end, like TV, that have improved so much since then. All comes down to budget and commitment.
I’m not even remotely going to go digging for the fic I read when I briefly lost my mind and shipped thorki, but “unite the kingdoms” sparked SO MANY bridgerton style marriage-of-convenience fics 😩
i love the title especially cause its all everyones been saying for ages as a joke and then in the newest loki episode one of the characters straight up tells loki he should see a therapist 💀💀💀💀 and YES that is josh dallas AKA prince charming from ouat, in the next thor movie he was recast because he left to do ouat !!!
Terrific film directed by Kenneth Branagh, well known for his Shakespearean films among many many others. While the journey of Thor is a lot like Tony's, both being arrogant men that need to learn humility, this film has a completely different feel to it.
I absolutely love the way you love this movie! I totally understand and agree with what you are saying about Jane & Thor. Their romance is more “fairytale-ish” than Tony & Pepper’s and doesn’t always strike the fandom as believable. Some fans even say that Hemsworth & Portman had poor chemistry. They are one of my favorite MCU couples, so I think their chemistry is spot on and fun. I am not a Thorki shipper, but I get it 😜 Odin wouldn’t be a candidate for Father of the year in my book, but I don’t doubt his love for Loki and that he had the best of intentions by trying to keep the truth from Loki and protect him from feeling isolated. Of course this would backfire eventually, but it is possible Odin tried to keep his distance from Loki, so he would be able to one day return him home to claim the Jotun throne and unite their kingdoms. I think Odin had no intention of raising Loki like a son, more of a ward or Theon Greyjoy situation, because that worked out so well 😬 but how could you not come to love a child you have raised like they were one of your own and not want to protect them in every way. Odin and Frigga (the bros mother) were wrong, but being a parent is sometimes like not seeing the forest because of all those trees… Loki…Loki…Loki… My overall favorite MCU character for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Lots of layers to unpack with Loki. I have always said that Thor is a boring character, a fun character, but boring. You do get the sense that he has pretty much peaked character arc wise in his debut film, and that we have barely even scratched the surface of Loki’s character… 💚
Okay shipping thor and loki is weird, but I like thor with jane but I love loki. He is one of my favorites in the mcu. And I have to say I think tom hiddleston is a fantastic actor and very attractive 😊
This was the first MCU movie I watched back when I was like thirteen... Damn, it brings so many memories. I went with my best friend and had no idea about anything Marvel related... Love your reaction
Btw I would ship loki with many other characters in the mcu who i think he would have the most chemistry with. I always wanted to see loki and darcy meet cause I ship them, they would be cute and fun 😊
The reason the effects still hold up is because ILM was still involved in the productions. Disney being involved and cheapening the effects came later.
There are so many Marvel series that I would love you to watch for reactions… I don’t want to mention them yet since it might be spoilery at this stage
Odin has always been something of questionable father, even in actual mythology. But, what he was trying to teach Thor was that an automatic impetus to respond aggression to aggression has only one destination: War. Was casting him out overkill? Maybe. But he's a "god" and so the lesson had to be large.
Loki is here :) Oh god, I've never thought of shipping the siblings. You can ship Loki with so many people lmaoooo, and bc it's Tom I think lots of people want Loki to themselves
Thorki was already a ship before the MCU, though. They're a ship because of their hilarious dynamic of "chaos gremlin x golden retriever" vibes. Even their mythological versions are shipped(because in their original forms Loki genuinely just follows Thor everywhere without being related to him at all with Thor being the only God he ever listened to)
I think you were a bit hard on Odin. I think every child not slotted to rule unless their older brother(s) experiences what Loki did. He had to raise him to be ready to rule in case something happened to Thor & I think he was making an effort to instill a sense of responsibility and equality in Loki. Adding adoption is a whole other layer- every parent in this situation tries to make a well informed decision but it’s really the roll of the dice. Loki had a hard time bc…. Well, look at Thor. He was probably great at everything, handsome, fun and sweet, charismatic.
Odin is straight-up a bad person, though. He never gets any better, if anything he gets worse😅 and still left a world ending threat to his children without explanation, sooo... Edit: Odin did steal a baby from a temple when said baby was more likely put there for the sole purpose of keeping it away from him😶(especially since it seems that Frost Giants don't easily have children🤔)
@@shanajeangedeon9060 I’m saying that as a parent there’s no handbook on how to raise kids to have high self esteem and to not harbor ill will towards an older sibling. Especially when dealing with the monarchy- so many kings had this issue with their younger sons it tore kingdoms apart just bc more than one existed, Idk we all made assumptions about that story. My impression was Loki was left there to die - abandoned (he did look different from other frost giants. Akin to the Spartans who threw their weak/sick babies over a cliff. We don’t know if it was a Theon Greyjoy situation & if there was a convo at all.
@Taewills I'm not denying any of those points. Don't worry, you make perfect sense. I was merely pointing out how once more context is added Odin doesn't seem to ever have been a good father anyway(so disliking his methods just feels more validated later). He was terrible with all of his kids and wasn't very empathetic towards any of them(which is ironic given that he wanted Thor to learn empathy from midgar because he is self aware of that flaw and wants Thor to be better than he is). Edit(WARNING FOR IMPLIED SPOILER): In the "What if" Series we see the Jotuns rejoice at having Loki back(but this version wasn't a runt). Plus, Odin seems to be purposefully hiding the full story because when you really think about it: how would he have known that Loki was specifically Laufey's and *not* just someone trying to protect their baby? Both are plausible conclusions to come to, so he also made an assumption.
#TeamLoki for life at least in this movie you get to see why Loki turns bad cause of what Odin tells him and the fact he favored Thor all those years and never treated Loki the same or loved him as much like I get where come's from
Oh but the issue of shipping Loki with anyone is very problematic, it's not just his race he's ambiguous about; more on that later. And the story of the "blue box of power" comes in the next installment with Captain Rogers, you'll find it hidden in Yggdrasil/the Tree of the World. If you're wanting to react to some stunning planetscapes, you'll find the MCU to be the gift that keeps on giving, the gorgeousness literally never stops. Hoping the reactions don't stop either 🍿❤
