- Antis target the grouse season. They know that disrupting a grouseshooting day will bring them publicity. Their biggest target is opening day, the glorious 12 August, as they know that many driven shoots will be on the moors. News correspondent Deborah Hadfield visits the Wentworth estate in the Peak District, which is delaying its first shoot day in order to avoid clashing with antis, and she previews the grouse season ahead.

Why shoot game birds?
Game is wild, natural and free range, and it is one of the healthiest meats available today. It is low in cholesterol and high in protein. Results from research commissioned by the Game-to-Eat campaign (Leatherhead Food International Research 2006) suggest that there are real health benefits to eating game. Both pheasant and partridge contain high levels of iron, protein, vitamin B(6) and selenium, which helps to protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.
In addition to the nutritional benefits of game, game shooting is worth £2 billion annually to the UK rural economy and supports 74,000 jobs. There are 480,000 (UK government figures) active game shooters in the UK who enjoy bird shooting under the principles of the Code of Good Shooting Practice.
More than 2 million hectares are actively managed for shooting in the UK creating proven (PACEC, 2014) conservation benefits and preserving important habitats for a diverse range of flora and fauna, in particular farmland birds. UK shooting providers spend £5.4 million on cover crop seeds every year and maintain over 25,000ha of wild-bird cover.
We’re proud to promote enjoyment of fieldsports and the countryside. There are three guiding principles to everything we do on Fieldsports Channel:
▶ Shoot responsibly
▶ Respect the quarry
▶ Ensure a humane, clean and quick kill

It amazes me that the antis are supposed to be law abiding,so why mask up obviously hiding the fact that they should either be at work, college, uni or looking for work, the police have the powers too remove those masks so why don't they.
If any of them are on benefits they should be made to give half their benefits too the estates when a shooting day has too be cancelled,as guests travel from across the world to shoot grouse how much does that cost them in accomodation, travel, and permits for bringing their guns with them, for some it might be just a one life time trip
The moor at the back of me is looked after by the Rspb it’s just a over grown mess and dead of wild life. Wot a shambles.
Game keepers on the other moors do a wonderful job in looking after there patch keep the good work up.
Hi Ben
Thank you for your comments. Is it possible for you to get in touch so we can investigate please. Deborah@fieldsportschannel.tv
That Geltsdale by any chance?
Arnfield, crowden and ashway gap. In the Peak District.
Just found out today the Rspb have started cutting the heather while it’s flowering so they can spread it on the peat. It hasn’t had time to set seed yet the pollen is still coming off it. They haven’t a clue🙈🤦♂️🤦♂️
@@bencooper6617 Geltsdale is the same, an overgrown desert. Far more wildlife to be found on the well managed neighbouring grouse moors
I hope that this season is good , too old to beat now but I love watching ,..great season to everyone
Keep it going with you al the way %100
What a great national tradition. All the best, from the US!
Moors looking fantastic, thanks to the management of them, here’s to a great season for all in all game shooting
Here's to a good season and more £££'s into the economy
Congratulations on trying to show what’s good about shooting !! This needs to be your start of fighting back !! I’m 29 and don’t want to loose it .. this includes all shoots basc snd ngo need to shape up and this might be the start
Beautiful scenery from a US based point of view yall really need to de-gentrify maybe that’s the word or just make this kind of thing more accessible for the common folk and it would help the image of hunting out a lot
No question at all that the grouse moors are stunning, and the superbly maintained tracks enable walkers of all ages to access areas of beauty that would otherwise be difficult to visit. The many shooting huts and boxes are almost always unlocked too and can be a potential life-saver to those unlucky enough to be caught out in really bad weather. so a big thank you to the grouse shooting fraternity.
Can you hunt in Europe like we do in the US? Like flushing them ourselves and like just go causally?
Yes, we do that, too. / Charlie
Heather Beatle 🤔. Think I went to school with her.
Why don't you protest about the grooming gangs in our Cities.
It all fairness England was covered in trees and you keep cutting them down for more open land for you lord to shoot on the Scottish Highlands shoot be covered in trees
You could say goodby to the ground nesting birds like harriers and curlew if you did that.
@@specdel I don't meant cover hole land just high land keep the valley open and plus shooting hundreds of bird each year burning land to keep it clear damages nature more planting a natural forst that was there in first place.
Danny, it would be better the other way round, plant in the valleys but leave the heather moorland alone so that rare red listed birds that need the open moorland for habitat can survive. Next is the question of WHICH trees. We don’t want thousands of acres of commercial forests ie. Sitka Spruce, we need broad leaved woodland planted with space in between the trees that support other plants at ground level to provide a habitat for woodland animals and birds. Sadly I doubt if it will happen like that. Kind regards, Specdel.
@@specdel when the Romans landed in England they wrote of the Caledonian forest stretched from the South all the way up to Scotland natural England Scotch pine, beach ,oaks forests aren't commercial forest and im not Against hunting but there should be public hunting land for all to used there's too many deer anyway.
@@specdel u lot shoot them too!
Pathetic. Ban it now.
