      I have never ordered from Voxel, since I make my own cables. But I have nothing but respect for him. His cables are nothing short of perfection and he takes the time to share the process and has some great tricks. If there is one cable maker that deserves success it's him.

    me with my shiny purple coiled cable from aliexpress having spent just over 10 bucks for it. for anyone that's a bit shocked by the price. i bought a nice coiled cable for 15 euros on AliExpress. it may not be as extremely perfect as a super expensive one but at least u get 85% of the aesthetics for 25% of the price. hell, my entire setup looks amazing and costs so little compared to the expensive stuff u see on the internet. ofcourse, if u take a good look at it u will see quite some flaws. but they are not in your face at all and can be improved with some diy and elbow grease.

    From an aesthetics standpoint, I am definitely interested in buying or making my own coiled cables, but I can see why people will find this particularly ridiculous, even when compared to other novelty things. Cables in the first place are dirt cheap, and even the $10 price point we see at many retailers is already ridiculously overpriced.
    There have always been luxury cables, though usually they not only are aesthetically superior but also boast better quality particularly in the audio cable market. These coiled cables, however, seem to be purely about aesthetics. I don't imagine it'd have a big impact for keyboards, but generally excess cable length and the additional of additional connectors also hamper performance.

    • @daftmell5237
      @daftmell5237 2 года назад +3

      Most keyboard PCBs are made by people without a good grasp of electronics and PCB design, such as myself, use suboptimal software and in general aren't minmaxed for signal clarity, and yet, they work just as well as any other keyboard. I don't see how a cable could improve or worsen this.

    • @VancePetrol
      @VancePetrol 2 года назад

      @@daftmell5237 Yeah, there's no way the length or quality of a usb cable will impact your typing experience in any perceivable way, other than by being broken. Unless you're also using it to charge devices or transfer data you shouldn't ever have to worry about it. It's all aesthetics.
      Which is fine. If you're spending several 100's of [currency units] on your input device already, why not spend some more on pretty cables while you're at it.

      Yes, and it actually presents real risk to your keeb. The fragile female USB C connector on the keeb itself has to support you lifting the keeb off the desk, with the coil half cable plus aviator hanging in the air whilst you swap it out for your Tuesday keeb (or whatever people do with these). Eventually that connector will fail due to the strain. Another risk is connecting the 2 cable halves from different manufacturers which can fry your keeb and/or PC.

    Custom hand made or not it is still crazy to me to spend that kind of money on a cable just because it looks nice on your desk. If I dont want an ugly cable on my desk i would rather just have a wireless keyboard that I only have to bring the cables out every few days to charge it back up, and that is something I could do while I am away or asleep.

    The coils aren't for stretching?

      That is the most hilarious point for me. At this stage, it makes sense to customise further and instead of a mid-cable coil decoration, why not fold that cable into an attractive flower shaped decorative artifact that you can just enjoy and look at every once in a while. It makes the same level of sense as the coil decoration and may be even more pleasing to the eye.

    I still don't understand why you would want a coiled portion of a cable. I don't get it. It's just unnecessarily chunky, particularly for keyboards since you don't exactly move your keyboard around a lot usually. Am I missing something?

    Stupid question: Why the connector and why the coiling .... ? Especially when they coil isn't for stretching...? I am looking at one just because they look so attractive but these questions have been bothering me since no one seems to explain this and just assumed the reasons are obvious.

    my mum asked me why would anyone spend so much money on a keyboard, and even just cables, and i asked her "why would anyone spend so much money on handbags" as she has like 10 chanel handbags that costed tens of thousands each. she never asked me that question ever again

      Yes, both things are fetishes. I would think there is some mental overlap with bag people, fine wine people, keeb people.

      which keyboard cost 400 dollars?

    • @adequatequality
      @adequatequality Год назад

      @@alanOHALAN Well, usually people include the total cost of the build including the keycaps and switches which can be much higher than $400 all things considered. But, for your reference, there's keyboards such as the Mode65 and Kyuu 65 that were selling for configurations above $400.

    when the cable costs as much as 1/3 of ur q1 xDDDD But tbh i rather have a more expensive nice looking coil cable than a wonky cheap cable. The wonky would drive me crazy
