I got involved with the keyboard hobby by way of Amazon Vine. I work in electronics. Every interconnect adds resistance to the circuit and I've had fancy looking cables under-perform in part because of this, so I cannot help but feel the aviator connection is superfluous
From an aesthetics standpoint, I am definitely interested in buying or making my own coiled cables, but I can see why people will find this particularly ridiculous, even when compared to other novelty things. Cables in the first place are dirt cheap, and even the $10 price point we see at many retailers is already ridiculously overpriced. There have always been luxury cables, though usually they not only are aesthetically superior but also boast better quality particularly in the audio cable market. These coiled cables, however, seem to be purely about aesthetics. I don't imagine it'd have a big impact for keyboards, but generally excess cable length and the additional of additional connectors also hamper performance.
Most keyboard PCBs are made by people without a good grasp of electronics and PCB design, such as myself, use suboptimal software and in general aren't minmaxed for signal clarity, and yet, they work just as well as any other keyboard. I don't see how a cable could improve or worsen this.
@@daftmell5237 Yeah, there's no way the length or quality of a usb cable will impact your typing experience in any perceivable way, other than by being broken. Unless you're also using it to charge devices or transfer data you shouldn't ever have to worry about it. It's all aesthetics. Which is fine. If you're spending several 100's of [currency units] on your input device already, why not spend some more on pretty cables while you're at it.
I agree, im not so much into the keyboard scene so sorry for my ignorance, but this cost way too much just for some damn cables. Rather just stick with the stock cables
Yes, and it actually presents real risk to your keeb. The fragile female USB C connector on the keeb itself has to support you lifting the keeb off the desk, with the coil half cable plus aviator hanging in the air whilst you swap it out for your Tuesday keeb (or whatever people do with these). Eventually that connector will fail due to the strain. Another risk is connecting the 2 cable halves from different manufacturers which can fry your keeb and/or PC.
Is there any benefit of having a longer cable? Why is it coiled like that? Why do those cables use a different plug to connect to the extension and not a USB to USB connection so that you could use the cable without the extension for example when you use it on a Laptop?
Basically the same reason keeb people "express themselves" with all kinds of colours for keycaps and boards. There is no benefit to the coil, it imparts more weight on the delicate USB C connecter on the board if you pick up the board with aviator dangling detached like that. Basically its a minor mental disorder is what I can tell.
me with my shiny purple coiled cable from aliexpress having spent just over 10 bucks for it. for anyone that's a bit shocked by the price. i bought a nice coiled cable for 15 euros on AliExpress. it may not be as extremely perfect as a super expensive one but at least u get 85% of the aesthetics for 25% of the price. hell, my entire setup looks amazing and costs so little compared to the expensive stuff u see on the internet. ofcourse, if u take a good look at it u will see quite some flaws. but they are not in your face at all and can be improved with some diy and elbow grease.
@@Dogspark841 How so? If your kb has a coiled half cable + aviator connector hanging off the USB C connector on the board, how is that not damaging that fragile USB C connector?
my mum asked me why would anyone spend so much money on a keyboard, and even just cables, and i asked her "why would anyone spend so much money on handbags" as she has like 10 chanel handbags that costed tens of thousands each. she never asked me that question ever again
Looks like Mixo is already defunct. Nice video though. Type-C cables are the biggest difference, because consumers and makers were not quite aware of what it actually takes to use a Type-C connector, and all its potential failings with certain keyboards.
So while there is more bandwith capablilites for usb3.0+ the actual latency from the USB protocol is the same and usb2.0 can support 1000hz just fine, thats probably why.
That is the most hilarious point for me. At this stage, it makes sense to customise further and instead of a mid-cable coil decoration, why not fold that cable into an attractive flower shaped decorative artifact that you can just enjoy and look at every once in a while. It makes the same level of sense as the coil decoration and may be even more pleasing to the eye.
