Quick update; did a service and found the spring in surprisingly good condition. A bit dirty but no rust. A good clean and regrease and should be good for a few more years. Ultegra derailleurs are built to last.

What signs would show when your out cycling that you would have to service the rear derailleur, I have a intermittent clicking noise when out cycling.....?.

I have a short cage r8000 and would like to swap to a medium cage to run 32tooth cassette.
