OMG Matt, I didn't even know these were a thing! I've been to SO many Dropkick Murphy concerts and I'm ALWAYS front and center, that Al and Ken point me out. Back in the day, Scruffy gave me a beer at a concert in Burlington, VT. I've got their skeleton piper " mFields of Anthenry" tattooed on my arm! I just keep finding more reasons to love your channel!
Matt, Fantastic content and thanks for sharing.May I ask,and apologies if this question has been answered already. If you had to chose between the Drop kick Murphys edition pipes or the PH Celtic heritage pipes, what set is your favourite? Many thanks Rob
I'd ask for a custom set, the Dropkick Murphy wood engraving/etching, but plain nickel ferrules and caps (and change the mounts to boxwood instead of blackwood).
Thanks for your kind reply Matt. My thoughts exactly.I’ve contacted RGh ,and asked if they can put the DKM etching on a set of Celtic editions.I’ll keep you posted 👍🏻
Interesting that you prefer the inverted EzeeDrone Bass. In my various pipes the standard EzeeDrone Bass is noticeably louder than the inverted, though true enough that in some drones the inverted can solve strike-in issues. BTW nice to play Amazing Grace. I wish all bagpipe reviewers would play Slow Marches and Retreats rather than blowing through jigs and hornpipes that don't allow the chanter/drone harmonics to be heard.
My normal go-to bass reed is a Balance Tone in most all bagpipes I try. Wish he sold the bass reeds by themselves! Can't recall if I was surprised or not that I preferred the inverted bass in this set. I know in the MacRae line of pipes my favorite bass is the inverted Ezeedrone bass or the regular Ezeedrone.
How were the images on the metal ferrules, pins, etc applied? Are they etched, engraved, transferred, etc.? Just curious if the Drop Kick Murphy name and Skelly would eventually rub off.
NIce Video and really nice pipes. As an aside I was always taught to put twists in the cords between the drones (back in the 1970's). Is this no lionger a thing?
I could listen to you talk about pipes all day matt. I’ve been a subscriber since you had under a thousand subscribers and have never missed a video. Would you consider doing a live stream maybe once a week? Just showing a live practice or simply talking about pipes in a podcast form or even you just tinkering away in the office. I know I would love that and I’m sure many more would also
These are some of the best looking pipes I’ve ever seen...and Dropkick practice chanter too?!?! I guess I’ll be looking for a second job now. Matt, need me to mow your lawn this summer?
@@gbaker7952 they sound better than poly pipes but you have to take good care of the blackwood pipes the poly pipes less maintenance but the sound is good but not like blackwood pipes
V8 Bagpipes! That’s a first! Great video, stunning pipes. Presumably underneath the stunning carving they’re regular Hardies? Or are they customised internally too?
This set didn't as it didn't come with a chanter. Luckily, I have plenty of chanters and reeds. I would assume under normal circumstances, yes, it would come with both a chanter and reed.
for the basic 1,500.00 depending how you want them set up for example what type of reeds you want and what kind of chanter and if you want a pipe bag for them or not.
Listening to Dropkick Murphy’s while I’m waiting. 👊🏻
Excellent choice. :) :)
What a gorgeous set! You're stoking the fires of my pipes addiction again; awesome unboxing sir!
Those look and sound great!! I didn't know that there were special Dropkick Murphys pipes. Thanks a lot for showing these!! 🤩👍🏻😍
No problem!
fantastic stand of pipes. i know what my third set will be now. thanks for the review on this set matt!

And they are simply brilliant pipes. Cheers!
Well, I'm impressed with the detail of the engraving. Sheesh that's cool.
It really is impressive and the relief/depth is greater than I would have thought.
HA! Cool!
I had no idea this was even being made!
I'm so dumbfounded I got dropkicked in the murphy's.

Laser engraved. My Heritage Hendersons also have this and it’s not going to run off.
So would you recommend that these are really good pipes to spend the money on? I have McCallum 2018 pipes
McCallum makes fantastic pipes too... But these DKM pipes are great.
Nice video, Matt, as usual ;)
What kind of D-throw you are using in Scotland the brave here. A hard one?
It's a heavy D throw. More info on that here: ruclips.net/video/xD3Frmqrxmk/видео.html
NIce Video and really nice pipes. As an aside I was always taught to put twists in the cords between the drones (back in the 1970's). Is this no lionger a thing?
Thanks! Personal preference on twisting cords. Many folks these days don’t.

the practice chanter does not come with it at least not with mine
Magnificent set of pipes and great review.
Is it possible to obtain the score for “shipping up to Boston”?
Keep up the good work :)
The set is incredible!! As for the song, unfortunately not... I don't have the rights to distribute. :(

Get Blackwood!

V8 Bagpipes! That’s a first! Great video, stunning pipes. Presumably underneath the stunning carving they’re regular Hardies? Or are they customised internally too?
They are the same bore form what I can tell. But seeing as my go-to personal bagpipe is a modern Hardie-made Heritage Henderson, that's a good thing!
They have quite nice tone well done 🥃🥃👍
Hey Matt, what drone reeds do you use on your bagpipes?
I typically use a Balance Tone bass and Ezeedrone tenors.
@@MattWillisBagpiper thanks))
is wood beams better for these pipes instead of renaissance wax?
I think Wood Beams is a much better product for these pipes with their external detailing.
Your one of my favorite pipers
That's great to hear! Thank you for joining in the premiere!
@@MattWillisBagpiper your welcome
You should review some Duncan McRae SL4 bagpipes made by Stuart Liddell next!
There's a McCallum vs. MacRae video coming up very soon! Though they'll be SL2 MacRaes (my personal favorite model)...
Um yes 🙌
You are quite talented, thank you

Do you have the sheet music for Pumpkins Fancy?
You can purchase an arrangement through Jack Lee's website here: bagpipemusic.com/product/pumpkins-fancy/

What is the Price tag on a set of Those!?!? Wow.. they're nice!!

About $1,500 😲
Maybe my wife won't notice 🤣
Will these be available in the UK?
I'd check with R. G. Hardie & Co. and ask...
what would you use for the outside wood on the pipes bore dr?
Probably something like this: goodiesunlimited.com/woodbeam.html
@@MattWillisBagpiper is this what you were using before renascence wax think i spelled it wrong lol
Yes, and for these carved Blackwood pipes, I’d avoid Renaissance Wax…

The GlenCoe e-chanter is around $150 if I recall...

How much cost this

I like them except the laser etching on the pins and ferrules. Makes them look cheap.
