I was born in Park Slope (1960) on Prospect Park Southwest directly across the street from Prospect Park. When l was three my parents moved us to Prospect Park West, a.k.a. 9th Avenue. It warms my heart to see these amazing “Brooklyn Beauties” again! This one was definitely updated however, it didn’t look like they didn’t defiled it though! (Thank goodness!) I especially loved the *6:58 Double Slipper Tub w/ Telephone Faucet!
*9:41 The view of the “Old First Reformed Church” on Carroll Street is beautiful! That church was originally known as “The Reformed Dutch Church of the Town of Breukelen” (Breukelen is a Dutch word which means Brooklyn) That Church is on the corner of 7th Ave & Carroll, the congregation was founded in 1654 by Governor Pieter Stuyvesant. The church you see pictured took five years to build from 1888 to 1893. It was built in the “Late Gothic Revival” it’s absolutely stunningly beautiful on the inside! At least it was when I was a child I haven’t been inside there since at least 1976. I may no longer live in Park Slope but, l definitely left my heart there!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful videos! I’m looking forward to watching more of your videos. 😊
P.S. This house was purchased for $315,000.00 in November of 1984 the last time it was sold was in September of 2013 for $3,297,000.00. It’s now appraised at $5,284,500.00.
A question please: The double width doorway, is there a (working) Pocket-doors there? I must have gone back and stopped the video at least 16 times but, I can’t be sure! I’m just seriously curious, I apologize I think the pandemic made me this way like a crazy lady! 😳🙄🤦🏻‍♀️ By the way, I would definitely buy that spectacular home, the only problem is, I’m widowed and all my children are grown! I would have to live there all by my lonesome but, I don’t think I’d mind.

Thank you for your very insightful comment & question about the pocket door! The double width doorway does indeed have a hidden pocket door on the right side (when facing the dining room). The door is original to the home and the slab measures about 5 feet wide.

Thank you Jane for such an informative post. I think I live a parallel life in Brooklyn and only halfway kidding about that. I can feel the entire area (and a certain era) in my soul. Thanks again, loved your post.

Like you I was born in Park Slope but in the early 50's. I noticed a few things different from the one I grew up in but not many. The major difference is the 2nd and bottom floor. The door from the East bedroom, intended to be a nursery, at the end of the bath hallway had been closed off by adding a wall of cubbies & turned into a closet on the other side. That was originally a door into the next room which was a playroom. The bathroom was much smaller & another bedroom in the back. The Master suite was on the top (3rd floor) The east room was guest bedroom or sitting room then the bathroom then the Master bedroom. The bottom floor was called ground floor and contained the laundry area & living space for nannies or housekeepers. Most had small kitchens. If they didn't have help living there many people rented out the room on that floor.

It warms my heart when I see that people renovate with keeping the woodwork and "cashet" of this gem of a house. The woodworks in that dark tone are beautiful and the wood floors are magnificent, the surprise was the skylights windows, what a gorgeous touch of the old world craftmanship. This house is spectacular, thank you for letting us dream for a few minutes for those like me who could never afford such a magnificent home.

This place definitely delivers on bedroom and closet size. My favorite bedroom wad the one with the deep windowsills. I'd have a field day dressing it up with plants, lights and sculptures. The bathrooms were beautifully done, and the woodwork throughout the house was exquisite.

Favorite bedroom is the East Bedroom on the 2nd floor. Since there's just me, that's the one I'd use. Cats would love the window seat. Great small deck off the kitchen would make a great morning coffee spot in the Spring and Summer. That little corner with the window in the kitchen might be big enough for a 2 person table. Love that there's 2 laundries and the backyard is a plus. My chef and housekeeper would have the whole 3rd floor. The chef gets the room with roof terrace of course. Important to keep chefs happy. I'm so gratified that they kept the warm woodtones and that the place doesnt look like a clinic. The fireplaces are amazing.

This one is by far the best apartment I've ever seen. Plenty of room in each room and all those bathrooms are amazing. And having 2 laundry rooms is absolutely fantastic! Loved the kitchen and I couldn't believe that it has a kitçhett to boot! Looks like they thought of everything in this one exspecailly all the storage places it has. Unbelievable! It.must be wonderful to be able to live there.

So happy to see so much of the original esthetics of this beautiful Lady! It makes me so k to see over the top modern lighting, painted woodwork covering 150 yr old beautiful carved wood, wood floors that are gone or covered in carpet. I want to cry seeing that! I just watched Life with Father on father's day that home at the turn of the last Century is wonderful.

This is a mind-blowing super-duper renovation, I have never seen such beautiful woodwork for an old house like this - drywall easily fixes the walls, but the old trims not so much - maybe the wood trims are all new replacements also - that's possible I guess. A huge cost to redo everything !!! All of them in the area are late 1800's era special of course, but this is just georgeous ! I have family living fairly near there, and I know my own daughter would love to be able to buy this one ! Thanks for the lovely walk-thru - I really enjoyed it !

i think they have so much more character when they still have the old fireplaces, woodwork people forget the history some these homes have, the closer to original the more i prefer

The amount of furnishings, possessions one would have to have even to begin to fill up a house that large. It boggles the mind. This place is huge.

Nicley renovated, plenty of period details, plenty of storage space. Good floorplan. The Arts and Crafts looking fireplace surround on the main floor looks like a later addition and not in keeping with the house's period details.
This could be a multi-generation home, except there are way too many stairs for anyone who is elderly or who has physical limitations. I did not see an elevator and this townhouse desperately needs one.
