    I have been using a visual timer with my AuDHD son and it has helped so much! He works best unsupervised, I set him up with the timer and make sure he knows what the task is and move to another room, we are homeschooling at the moment. He calls me when he is done.

    I wish this was ADHD friendly. I know this is for parents and teachers to help their kids but adults with ADHD who have been recently diagnosed are still trying to figure out how to help themselves. Having blocks of repetitive text isn't good for the inability to focus. I would highly recommend you take the style or at least a note from How To ADHD. I find it easier to follow her guidance.

    My 7yo son struggles with ADHD behaviors both at school and at home. It’s hard to get him help when I myself feel like I’ve always struggled with attention deficit tendencies. It’s really hard to get from point A to Point B for your child when you have a hard time staying focused as well. 😞

    Even while watching this video I am getting distracted and loosing attention very often n easily. This problem of adhd or whatever i have, which i believe is adhd is taking upon my days and wasting alot of my time and money. I invested in a very expensive course this month and i am facing issues in understanding what the professor is saying. While he is teaching, even after concentrating ( trying to ) i cannot focus, i am in a lost world with too many desires and too many wasted ideas that i cannot or i havent achieved yet. It so much feels like i cannot do complex things. But i believe i can do it, i just need to figure out how? Because i have done it before when i was child, i remember i was able to do complex things. I think its a matter of habits that I have developed which have shaped my mind into the state i am struggling right now. I just need a lot of complex things to be done so that my brain gets used to seeing all this. I hope my story/whatever was somewhat interesting for anyone. Any suggestions, help is much much appreciated, because I am still in my struggling phase, just a quick fact, i cannot even focus on video games or movies for a very long time. Any help is appreciated.

      Thank you for sharing your story! If it's possible, I would look into possibly getting medicated for ADHD. I have been medicated for ADHD for only a handful of weeks and it is really changing my life. I would also consider maybe getting screened for other mental illnesses, I am not a doctor, but not being able to focus on things that are engaging and enjoyable sounds a little like depression. Even if you are not particularly sad, sometimes depression can cause major fatigue and disinterest. I've been medicated for depression for a little over a year and I just want to say, I thought there was a lot of things wrong with my character and who I am as a person, but in reality it was mostly mental illnesses. My mental illnesses affected more parts of my behavior than I previously thought. So I want you to remember that if you are trying, it is enough, there's nothing wrong with you as a person, you are just mentally ill probably. And my final suggestion is to really limit your time on social media and your phone in general. The apps on our phones are designed to make us have the shortest attention span possible. I deleted my fb over a year ago and I don't think I'll ever get one again. I think that's all I have to say, if anything is hard to understand, just let me know and I can elaborate.

      @@xx_lilly_xx5367 as a parent with ADHD and trying to learn as much as I can about it I can say first hand that I can understand to certain degree why a parent wouldn’t want to medicate their child. Perhaps to your mom you are PERFECT and would rather not have medication change any part of you mentally…. That is how I feel about my son who has ADHD, I too do not want to have him on medication. Being a parent is soooo extremely difficult and I can imagine that your mom is trying her best with what skills she has. These decisions can be life altering and they are not easy ones. Hoping you can be understanding and I truly wish you all the best and that your struggles lessen or get better.

    This is good information but not presented in an ADHD friendly format. Too much blocks of texts, the reader is too monotonous and not enough visual. I am already getting distracted and have not been able to finish the video properly as I keep having to go back, as I missed points, because it was too monotonous and boring. It's be actually quite and ironic video.

    I remember growing up when I was in 2nd grade, my teacher was reading a picture book. She started talking to the class and I started reading out loud while she was talking to the class. I got in trouble for that at home. I had a hard time paying attention. This was back in the early 90’s. I asked my mom if she ever paid attention to my behavior. She said no. My mom doesn’t believe in all this stuff. I discovered as an adult that she didn’t care either. All she knew was that I was getting the bare minimum so she wouldn’t get in trouble by CPS. Weird thing is she retired from being a CPS social worker who was given powers to remove abused and neglected kids. So weird. That’s why I never had a 504 plan. Yes I am very angry with her.

    • @pandarue
      @pandarue 2 года назад +2

      @@peycates I don't know what age the posters kid is- but the only issue with that is that school and teachers typically expect kids to use pencils, since they can erase / correct mistakes. So some don't allow that 😕 My kid has the same problem and has been told before to stick to pencil. Sucks.
      I get it, of course, but when you're trying to find something to keep them engaged.. it sucks.

    With all due respect, I have ADHD and want to get what she is saying but THIS is what causes “behaviors” in class. I WANT to learn but there is ZERO dopamine happening from being read at with lots of words in slides. Good points but difficult presentation to follow for anyone who has ADHD.

  • @msm1338
    @msm1338 Год назад

    First of all, I think I may have just developed ADHD by listening to this incredibly monotonous (bored??) voice - I literally just fidgeted in my seat, rolled my eyes and resisted lots of urges to stand up and walk around (and throw a book). The strategies themselves were actually extremely useful, and I will def. tweak them to match the needs of my highschool students. The only thing I disagree with is the class reward for good behavior: I view this as collective punishment when the class does not do well - it's usually down to one or two students and then the whole class suffers. This can really kill motivation and nurture a lot of resentment amongst peers, so I would rethink that one.
