    480 Sundancer is awesome, curious why this over the 470 Intrepid with outboards or any other outboards at this point.

    • @thevesselslainte
      @thevesselslainte  6 месяцев назад

      Hi Grant, there are a few reasons we went this way. First, we really love the layout and the balance between cabin and deck space. The intrepid and others like it are a little more of a center console than a cabin cruiser, so more tilted toward deck space. We spend a lot of days aboard and need a bit more room below. Regarding outboards, I realize they are all the rage, but I am not a big fan. We spend a lot of time swimming and enjoying the cockpit, and I don’t enjoy having giant motors, taking up the space that I enjoy most. I’m very happy with the reliability and fuel economy of the diesels and I would stick to inboards if I could. I appreciate the comment though. Thank you for watching, Slainte!

    • @thevesselslainte
      @thevesselslainte  Год назад +1

      Thanks Erich! I provided the details in one of the other questions below, but the short answer is that the system had a hydraulic leak, which was later fixed by the seller. After turning the wheel a bunch of times, it built some pressure and I was able to steer enough to get by. At low speed, I just had to use the shifters instead. We appreciate the comment!

    • @thevesselslainte
      @thevesselslainte  Год назад +1

      Ahoy there! The cost to haul our boat was about $15/mile, but we got several quotes and that price varied a bit. It also varies on time of year and if the hauler is headed in that direction. I would encourage you to get some estimates to compare. Lockview Marina in NY was our hauler and we had a very good experience, so would include them in your survey if I were you. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

    We just bought an incredibly well maintained SR 40 sundancer from Ohio and are trying to coordinate land transport to southern Wisconsin. I am biting my fingernails to the bone thinking about the ground transport. Worried about the bumpy ride causing stress cracks, etc. Any damage to Slainte during transport?

    • @thevesselslainte
      @thevesselslainte  Год назад

      I can certainly sympathize with your concern. We had never undertaken anything like this, so I had no idea what to expect. We had no damage other than a lost cushion, which was my own fault for not securing it. The boat moves around less than you think on that trailer. I think the key is finding a hauling company with lots of experience, especially with the size and type boat that you have. We used a company called Lockview marina and I was more than pleased with how prepared and professional they were. Call around and get some estimates. I think you can learn a lot by speaking with the people directly. Congratulations on your new purchase and best of luck on the coming season. Slainte!

      She is a 2006 with twin Cummins QSC 8.3 Diesel engines. For 17 years old, she is in really good shape, and has had some owners that really loved her. We saw some other boats (same model, similar age) that were not so well cared for, so when we found this one, we knew she was the one!

      @@thevesselslainte She looks beautiful. I had a Lou smaller Sundancer, a 2008. They make great boats but they are fuel guzzlers. We loved ours but moved away from the Florida coast so we got rid of it and boat a smaller lake boat to use here in middle GA. We’re very familiar with Lake Lanier too. Spent a lot of time there growing up. Enjoy your new Sea Ray. It looks fantastic!!

    @michaelkortenhaus5017 Год назад +1

    What was up with the steering system?

    • @thevesselslainte
      @thevesselslainte  Год назад +1

      The steering system had a hydraulic leak which came up on the survey, so we knew about it, but didn't think it was quite that bad! Spinning the wheel eventually built some pressure so the rudders worked enough to get us around, but it was sketchy. The seller agreed to repair it, but that repair had not been done by Thanksgiving. Shortly after that trip, the steering ram was replaced and it works great now.
