    When a business feels that need to stress that "nothing will change" that's a 100% guarantee that things will change.

      I get why they’re saying that, but yeah it’s a bit of a red flag.

    Finally, someone talking sensibly about this, rather than the waffling on the Serif forums about “negative vs positive” viewpoints. Affinity is the one being bought out. And yet, they are doing all the talking and the one making pledges. This is out of their hands. Canva is, and will be, calling the pricing shots moving forward so I want to hear from them.. The sooner this and the roadmap for the products are made clear by CANVA the better, so that we users can be better informed and decide if we stick it out or leave.

    It breaks my heart. I love Affinity and have been using it for years. Sadly your thesis is on point.

    Serif cashed in at the last moment before it was too late. End of the story.

    Exactly! That the people at Affinity let Canva acquire them only shows that they have no self-respect at all.

    Canva acquiring Serif got the same vibe as Adobe accruing Figma. At least the latter didn't happen.

    Thank you for your insight on this. As an avid Canva creator for years I don't want to learn Adobe or Serif. I hope the changes are just subscription based and not on app functionality.

    That really sucks. I can feel they are going to go subscription immediately.

    • @marvelousdecay
      @marvelousdecay  7 месяцев назад +1

      At least in their press release they say that if they go the subscription route that they will keep a perpetual license. But yeah that's just words...
      I'm more worried about the enshittification of the Affinity product line. More and more Canva "features" sipping in to Serif's products.
      Let's see how things will unfold.

      I feel they started down a bad path with their 2.0 line prior to acquisition. Their products are great but the learning curve is pretty steep for many. I think this is going to kill Affinity and that Canva only bought them to vulture their software, engineers and plugins. @@marvelousdecay

    It's over. Bought serif tools then affinity v1 then v2. Great products still use em. Will continue to. I don't expect any good updates only bad ones. That's ok it will continue to work on my hardware with my 4k screens. Eventually something else will cone about. Anyone remember Macromedia Fireworks? 😅😅😅😅

    I mean...i'm afraid cause I LOVE affinity. But at the same time, more investment is always good and I hope more people get their hands on the suite. Universal adoption is key for a smooth end to end workflow.

    Honestly this is probably the best thing to happen to Affinity. The painful truth is development has essentially stopped on Affinity. They were way over extended. They didn't have the resources to keep up any longer. The apps were already mostly on maintenance mode and even that was lagging. About a decade of unfixed bugs. Turns out an essentially free product just isn't sustainable.
    Canva wants to compete with Adobe for enterprise customers. This means heavy investment into Affinity for professional level features.
    For all those worried what Canva might do to the product, just realize we are here because what Affinity did to the product. There are no guarantees, but a dead product wasn't a better option.

      I totally agree. Serif was overextended and didn’t have the resources to maintain three different apps. I just wish they picked a different partner. Someone other than Canva. In my mind Maxon would have been a much better candidate. But yeah let’s see how things will unfold!

      @@marvelousdecay I hope it works out well. Affinity had some really great ideas and it has been so disappointing to not see Affinity become the type of revolutionary suite I felt it could become. I use Affinity for hours every day and I'm always pushing up against limits or features broken by bugs.
      The seamless integration of all 3 apps was one of their greatest promises, but it also is one of the most broken features when you really push it. For example, Artboards are awesome for my workflows; however, many of the Photo live filters are just broken in Artboards.

    Please stop your crying!!! To put so many people into two(2) categories is nonsense. There are as many variables as there are people. Affinity and Canva are two decent companies that are doing the best for themselves and their there base.

    • @marvelousdecay
      @marvelousdecay  6 месяцев назад

      Not sure why you find this so radical. Canva is made for people who are not professional designers and just want to put something together. The affinity products are made for actual designers doing professional work. Where exactly do you think these two meet? Hint: They don’t.
      As for your argument about the two companies doing the best for themselves that’s true. But doing the best for their base? That is quite a stretch.
      And you don’t have to take my word for it. Just do a basic google search and you’ll see how many affinity users talk nice about this merger…
      The company’s user base is definitely not liking it.

    Affinity is racist because they made it too hard to use. Canva will make it easier, like TV, so that we in the community can get good jobs.
