All thanks to the killer groove of Dave fucking Mustaine
Not just that, but there’s a guy named Cliff Burton in this band that had a certain level of importance Did you realize that?????
@@MetalHead-xq9on sure. Nothing but respect for Cliff. However, the groove that earned the respect of Elektra records was created SOLELY by Dave...Fucking.... Mustaine. For, as the record states (Ron McGovneys Garage jam tapes minus Cliff) was all sewn up and cased BEFORE they hired Cliff.
😢
dave sucks
Salty still I see.
Holy s**t this is fascinating. I love when these guys get older and start spilling the beans
I love how you read through these interviews. You have a nice “newscaster” kind of voice that has clarity and natural rhythm.
I couldnt articulate why I like his content until now. Thank you, observant sir! 🤟
I think this gentleman is actually in the music media? Could be wrong..but he reminds me of Eddie Trunk as well.
It’s called AI. 100% not a real person reading that.
@@jdaniel.guitarI'm fairly certain he's real. I've heard AI voiceovers, the cadence here is human.
He sounds like Nikki Sixx tbh
Metallica has been lying about their talent for years
Edgy
I hear of people talking crap about Kirk. It's weird how metal people don't like his blue-based stuff. I think if any guitar player heard it, they would have trouble not digging their guitars
It is funny how all the romantic glassy paint of the music history peels off just to show greed, bullshit and business. Classy. At 22 that guy had basically unlimited power. And there were these tuff bands who blabbered about how they took “no shit” from no one… while in reality they eat from the palm of execs. Just amazing. I ain’t judging, just funny how that bs was sold to us naive kids as a form of rebellion and independence 😂
Agree. It’s all an act nothing more
I think Metallica & Mötley Crüe owe way more people than they think they do for their starts.
It just sounds like he met the band, loved their music, was going to sign them if he was going to stay with Electra. But since he wasn't going to stay, Michael Alago stepped up met the band and the rest is history. Also I just saw your interview with Brian Wheat from Tesla from around 3 years ago. He said that it was Cliff Burnstein that changed their band name to Tesla. Zutaut is definitely not an honest person. But a lot of those guys aren't.
City Kidd, holy crap haven't heard tgat name in years. Growing up in Sacramento, CA they were the band. Worked at Skips Music in Sacto, Wheat, Lucketta, all those guys were frequent fliers in those days. We knew they were good, but when the first Tesla album debuted, blown away.
not sure but think may of been first concert I went to, well in teenage years, mom took me to Kenny Rogers when I was Kid , think baby sitter went to jail best I recall. something like that
That was a great album!
Its marvelous how pieces of the rock and roll story fit together after years of sifting! \m/
The fun Oasis Ballroom days!
City Kidd and the storage units off Watt Ave. & Madison jam sessions Oasis Ballroom was their place for sure along with Y&T. 👍🏻 Thw owners of Skips was our neighbor and my brothers both took and gave lessons there🙂🥰 great people Hannon ,Skeoch,Keith (of the band ) got to know them 3 well.
I thought Cliff Burnstein renamed City Kidd to Tesla
We had a kid on our school bus that wore a hockey helmet. He did not play hockey, nor was he in a rock band.
Did he perchance also lick the windows??
Was his name Jason?
We are learning that everything (EVERYTHING) that we were sold & told was a LIE! (In ALL facets of life.)

Great Overkill song
Zutaut signed the Beatles too, and the Stones, and Mozart... Allago is the man who brought Metallica to Elektra, not Zutaut.
Nice piece Bloom! I never knew about Zutaut spearheading the Met/Electra signing.
Both Allago and Metallica said Allago signed them and have said nothing about this guy so it sounds like a bullshit story.
I don't doubt he was there and wanted to sign them. And he probably would have been the one to sign them if he was going to stay at Electra, but he didn't.
Alago has receipts with signing Metallica as well, he can tell you where he saw them and when. Jonny Z wanted him to sign Raven but he loved Metallica more
Ron Mcgovney said he personally gave Nikli Sixx the first Metallica demo and Nikki helped them get signed to Elektra
Dubious. Alago knew about them through Jonny Z. I doubt Nikki could have cared less about Metallica. The hair bands didn’t think much of them and were crocked when they became successful
You didn't hear that he made a deal about loaning the money. If they win, they were signed, but he wasn't gonna be there to be the one signing them, or did you miss that?
I still have RTL cassette on Megaforce!!
bought that tape when it came out. lost all my tapes/case logic cases on a greyhound bus
What I wonder is did Rock City Angels Lawyer really pull a gun on Geffen inside his office?
I always knew there was more to the Michael Alego (spelling?) story than he lets on.
You could tell it was bullshit
That *was* the record business.
what artist plays the background music? I like it

David Geffen is the reason why Music sucks, even today cause they still use his formula. Zero Chance with Zero Creativity.
Agree; and it was John and Yoko who gave him his start- after Double Fantasy everyone wanted to be on Geffen because John had been on it
@@aunch3 Makes sense being John was a communist.

Zutant has been on eBay for 25 years trying to sell his shoes because he’s so broke. Take what his says with a grain of salt
drug problems?
Also, Metallica and Megaforce parted ways in an amicable manner.
Correct. They remained friends with Jon and Marsha. Zutat’s story doesn’t make sense.
This is no Rock n' Roll ' its just business
Dude looks like Bill Pullman in the thumbnail
It was during the time he signed Bill Pullman
Metallica didn't play at Lamour in 1982. He got his date mixed up.
Weasels suck, and weasels blow, weasels control rock and roll. - Iggy Pop.
This is also the history of Raven's downfall.
Tom sells kias in chattanooga now.
Tom Zutaut you mean....
David Geffen is a business genius. Totally underrated.
Research the involvement in Chris Cornels AND Chesters death. Seems the dude is a complete psychopath.
@@kanoray2608 How was he involved?
Thank you
I do not believe Metallica were suing Megaforce. Maybe he is just referring to the negotiation between Elektra and Megaforce over future Metallica rights. ???
Metallica sued that free sharing platform, making their fans pay money for their music.......why wouldn't they sue Megaforce?
Another great one 👍
Dosen’t Tom Zutat work at a dealership?
Yeah and it's not even a good one it's like Mazda or something. Guess he ran thru his money
@@mattchomo seriously?
@@machupikachu1085 No
So all these rockers were manufactured? Before I dont watch the video?
Hetfield wearing a Mania shirt @5:17? Sweet
Michael Alago (and Metallica) isn’t the only person who left this guy out of the story….it seems history has forgotten him too. As a huge Metallica fan the past 30+ years, this is the first I’m ever hearing his name and his claims….sounds like sour grapes if you ask me.
is the newscaster Dr. Bob?
Raven is still 🔥 👍👍👍
is this a recording or an AI production?
He’s done actual interviews, so it’s a real guy.
Sounds like his tape measure is out.
🤘 manythnx
A&R guys are hilarious, they claim to "discover" bands when really they are just gatekeepers and parasites with forever royalties 🙄
Guys like this sponging millions off the actual musicians is why no one had any sympathy when the internet killed the old corporate label model.
Exactly
except the old corporate model still exists, it just controls Spotify
Katy Williams was even talking about Metallica
The guy is a Legend 🙌
Wow, Interesting ..
interesting;..
If Zutaut was going to sign Metallica, how did he know about them? I don’t buy it. Bob Krasnow, who ran Elektra, angrily denied Zutaut had anything to do with them being signed
Awesome! Thank you.
Raven was not even close to being on the same level as Metallica
They are now both suck
what was "on the same level as" supposed to mean in this case??
In 1983? ...Raven were bigger.
...commercially?: absolutely.
Raven's debut album: Rock Until You Drop was a NWoBHM classic and was something MetallicA admired & listened to (That, particular, album was much less "commercial" than the later Raven and was louder, faster, harsher)!
So: since you didn't explain what you meant and: NO! No-one is going to read your mind! ...so: based-on that, alone: it has to be accepted that: You're wrong.
-You might argue: song-writing or arrangement capabilities. O.K. 👍👍
...but: as far as musicianship?
...and success within the (then) underground metal community??
- especially in the early '80s!!!?
...they were at "the same level." Absolutely.
That's not a question of taste or preference (and that is nearly always what people MEAN when they refer to an artist being "better" than another (...or "more" something 🤷🤷)-even when they SAY it ISN'T!
...obviously: No-one is going to compare, say 🤷 Stay Hard 🤷🤷 or The Pack Is Back to: Master Of Puppets, or something!
That would, just, be, flat-out, ignorant!
...but there was a period when MORE people would have been familiar with the name (and the music of): "Raven" than with the name: "Metallica."
...even if only by a slight margin.
Naturally, things changed drastically when 'tallica moved from Megaforce over to Elektra (and the larger label budget could be used to promote and familiarize people with Metallica's music!) and Kill 'em All and Ride The Lightning developed larger and larger followings
...erupting, finally, with the release of: Master... and a slot opening for Ozzy!
...No-one is arguing the development.
...but you don't specify a time or range ... [🤦🤦]
...so: your non-statements have-to-be called out.
@SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra it means they weren't on the same level and putting time and effort into Raven was time and effort wasted.
@@ncmetalmusic All right.
I can agree with that.

"Embellisher" for sure. Definitely a fellow that's in love with himself.
@toddmorrissey8372 well tbh you have to be to do what he did, he was basically a professional hype man
@@mattchomo Surely. But those days are long passed for him. He's also a documented r@pist that drugged and r@ped Edie Brickel when he was signing her and her band in late 80s early 90s. Her dumb ass took a settlement instead of filing criminal charges. But after the NDA expired she went public with it.
Another Great Tid Bit 😉
Actions speak louder than words always get it in writing😭
yes, trust record execs. they are the noble ones.
Didn't anyone ever consider yhat some drunk kids from the bay area who made kill em all which was a great album. But they all a sudden came out with ride the lightning completely classically influenced? Like the chug masters wrote classical music all a sudden? Yeah right. Metallica didn't write ride , master, and justice or black. But wrote everything else. Its pretty obvious. They are industry plants. The music industry saw $ in metal. So they created a supergroup. Look hiw Metallica influenced an entire generation of kids.
They weren’t drunk kids. They were musicians. Why couldn’t they make those albums. What you’re saying makes no sense. Record companies don’t have professional songwriters that can make thrash metal at the time.
Get back on yer meds, Johnny.
@@sidsuspicious what fun would that be ? ppfft!
yeah....no. Nobody saw thrash metal really going anywhere back then. It was the most extreme music being made at the time. Pretty fringe. There's no way in hell a record label had writers around who even understood the musical style, much less that they saw it making them much money.
@@firebirdlover4460 I agree with you 100 percent. That's exactly why master, ride justice and black all sound so refined and classical influence all over it . I'm not saying Kirk and James didn't write great riffs. I'm saying once the industry got them they directed them in very specific ways. Studio players showed them better arrangements, different movements and helped them craft what they ultimately became. Yes Metallica wrote great music. But Kirk and James didn't write what we were listening to too. They played it. Had some good ideas but ultimately were guided, shown and groomed.
That band does zero for me. I've tried to like them and can't. For some reason I do like Megadeath. I think it's a Grove thing. Not sure.
Metallica is the truth. F GnR
Bullshit
Michael alago has always been a liar.
Metallishit sucks.
Zutaut had nothing to do with Jon and Marsha Zazula signing Metallica to Megaforce. It was more the guys in Anthrax. I guess 40 years and a shitload of drugs has a funny way of playing tricks on your mind, and your ego.
He said he got them signed to Elektra, not Megaforce.
Honestly love how everyone from LA says “Everyone one in LA lies and backstabs, but I will tell you how it really happened!”
I’m 92.7% sure is handed to you on a card when you get off the plane or enter the city. It’s the same thing the cops have for reading miranda rights. “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say blah blah blah blah”.
Who cares after ride the lightning? They suck. Once Cliff was gone, it just made the rest a bunch of tools. Hey, maybe you could bring a big band orchestra out again. Tired . Recycled shit
Wrong.
It's kind of unfair to bash them after they lost a band mate. It's not like they could be the same. It definitely changed them.
@@MetaITurtle Yea . I’m in mid 50’s . So I remember how incredibly different they were say 81-ish . Maybe that was a cheap shot. But as far as the orchestra, and after Ride the lighting I’m pretty spot on. However, they’re doing much much better than say, Mötley Crüe.once they lost Mick . There’s nothing to see.
@JessicaJohnson-mv7lb I'm a couple years behind you. Cliffs influence stretched beyond ride the lightning. Beyond justice, it's all shit tho...and I look at the black album as their " rock" album....I don't hate it like everything beyond...
@@JessicaJohnson-mv7lbalso...some of these guys that argue with you were still filling diapers when the black album was fresh...they simply don't know.
