    Thanks for showing this - kind of wondered what was in those mystery boxes!

    Thanks Kevin. I look forward to your review of the Comet 350. I’ve been thinking of getting one.

      Thanks, I need to pickup an adapter, and make a counterpoise and then hope to get out there. Thanks for watching! -73, Kevin

    For $60 (incl shipping) you received a soldering helping hands, a piece of plastic, and some paracord??

    • @WQ9FHamRadio
      @WQ9FHamRadio  3 года назад

      Yeah pretty much. It is never stuff I would have bought on my own but the dollar value of everything equals to what I pay for it. The cord I'll use for portable antennas, the PC riser I'm using but I never would have bought one. Thanks for watching! -73, Kevin

      @@WQ9FHamRadio I activated a park last week, and it was a late activation...by the time I was done, it was dark out. It took me a few minutes to find my paracord which was on the ground, even with a flashlight. I immediately thought about your video, and possibly buying some of this reflective paracord. Thanks again for the video! 73

    Giga Parts packing LOL. Years ago they shipped me a scratch and dent Astron RS35 loose in a box that was 3x too big. Good thing those things are tanks. It’s still my primary power supply!

      Astron makes a great power supply! Used an RS20 for a long time before I ended up buying a bigger one. Using a switching one now but want to switch back to an Astron at some point. Thanks for watching! -73, Kevin

    Mystery boxes are gambles. Usually they pay out and have useable items in them. Can't really recall anyone have a bad experience from any kind of mystery box from anywhere...

    • @WQ9FHamRadio
      @WQ9FHamRadio  3 года назад

      Yeah, I've gotten a few of them over the years. I'm using the PC Tower Riser and I'll use the reflective cord for sure, the helping hands i've already got a set so these will either go to the school I teach at or to the hamfest! Thanks for watching, 73, Kevin

    I had no idea you could get those risers for a PC. I have mine up on two blocks of wood and Mrs TTQ complains it looks untidy! Might have to see if I can get one over here.

      Thanks for watching! I never knew they existed either, I would have probably never bought one on its own but now that i've got it, I put it to good use. 73! -Kevin

    For guy wire, that paracord should work well. It's pretty garbage for getting wire antennas into trees. The reflective bits are stips of plastic that ruin the otherwise smooth nature of paracord and adds a lot of friction when running over a branch.

    • @WQ9FHamRadio
      @WQ9FHamRadio  3 года назад

      I currently use some bright yellow guy paracord for guy wire on my portable mast but I might replace one of the ropes with that reflective stuff to add some in. Thanks for the tip! -73, Kevin

      Lol! I'm not surprised, pretty sure they just go through the stuff that's not selling and Bam! Mystery Box. I never would have bought the PC Tower Riser but now that I have one I put it to use. Thanks for watching, 73! -Kevin

    Beware of that Comet antenna. I've tried one a few times and it is the worst performing antenna I've ever used!

    • @don_n5skt
      @don_n5skt 3 года назад

      Definitely bad but I have used it on 15m, 20m in the house believe it or not on my 705.

    • @VA3OSO

      @@don_n5skt You could also get on 20m with a coathanger and it would work the same as the comet.

      Thanks for watching! I've been wanting to give this one a try for a while now and I've heard all the horror stories. I ended up picking this one up second hand for about half the price so I figure it was worth the gamble. Need to pickup an adapter and make a counterpoise but hoping to give it a try here at least. 73! -Kevin

      @@don_n5skt This is a bit encouraging. My plan is to use it with my KX2 or my G90 for POTA. I've used some pretty bad antennas for POTA and they usually work enough to activate so figure why not try the one everyone else says is terrible lol. 73! -Kevin

    That Comet HFJ-350M is a piece of crap! I bought one from Amazon for the simple fact if I didn't like it...I could return it. Needless to say...it got returned!

      @WQ9FHamRadio  3 года назад

      I've heard that from a few people now. I've wanted to try it since it came out, but never wanted to pay the price, so ended up picking this one up used for about half the price, figure it was worth the gamble. Thanks for watching, 73, Kevin

      I never would have bought any of this stuff on it's own, I wasn't expecting too much but the dollar value of stuff was more than I paid technically, but not sure I would try it again. Thank for watching! 73, Kevin

      @@WQ9FHamRadio There's so much wrong with that box and the dollar amount is just part of it. Nobody would look at the contents of that box and think that was even remotely right. Someone made a comment that they received the exact same contents.
