I ran some Rem. 22 mag through my marlin M922 and I had an issue with hot rounds. So hot that one round split its brass case, another casing stretched in the barrel and had to be forced out of the breech through the barrel. The other rounds gave me good groupings.

I have always felt that the 22 magnum does not get enough love, there should be at least a dozen modern semi-automatic magazine fed pistols on the market that shoot this cartridge, and more than 10 rounds please! With the tiny diameter of the cartridge there should be at least a 30 round magazine!

22 WMR is my go to varmint rifle. I have killed a pile of varmints with this up to some very large beavers at our duck club that had become a real nuisance. A 22 WMR is no joke it will take down deer with the right shot. It is well known to spotlighters' and poachers. Gator hunters use this caliber for their kill shots. Very versatile cartridge.

I saw a deer that was poached with (We were told by fish and game) a 22 Mag soft point. The buck was about 170lbs and shot a little high behind the shoulder at about 40 yards. The bullet hit the heart. The bullet entrance was a hole a little smaller than a dime and it exited the offside making a hole about the size of a quarter. According to what we were told, the shot was made from a tree stand about 10' high. There was no blood trail. Fish and Game said the deer died right where it was hit. Apparently, there is quite a bit of power in the 22 mag soft point.

I have been backing Savage rimfire rifles for years! They are super affordable and far more accurate than they should be for the cost. I have a Savage 93FVSS that was a Christmas gift nine years ago...best Christmas gift ever btw. The best five shot group I have gotten out of it was from the CCI 30gr. VNT, which was 5/8" at 100 yards. 22 Magnum was never marketed as a particularly precise cartridge, but modern powders and bullets make a world of difference. Outside of the sentimental value, I wouldn't trade my Savage 93 for anything just because it's so damn accurate.

If you can find it Federal is making the Remington 33 grain premier and it is pretty accurate in mine.

I use a .22 mag. to shoot prairie dogs. Even very long shots are very doable with the .22 mag. A wind can cause a lot of drift on those longer shots though. An old time friend of my family used to be a Colorado game warden and whenever he had to trap a bear and dispatch it he would use a .22 mag.. My friends that hunt lions a lot let their customers use a .22 mag. pistol with a green laser sight to dispatch their lion, no big wholes when mounting that way.

Very good accuracy once the barrel was fouled. I've test many 22 mag loads out of a rifle at 100 yds. The only loads I've had any expansion with have been Hornady Critical Defense, CCI Gold Dot and Federal Punch.

That’s a great rifle. .22 magnum from a rifle is a very hot load. You’re getting close to 200 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle with that

I have shot rimfires a lot in my life. I have had 5 different .22 mag rifles over my 69 years. That rifle is very accurate. The .22 mag is just not inherently accurate. The .22 LR is more accurate in my experience. The best most accurate .22 mag rifle I ever owned was the Marlin Model 25M bolt gun I bought at Wal Mart. I have never owned a more accurate .22 Mag. I have a Savage .22 mag just like yours. It is accurate, but yours is more accurate than mine. Great shooting.

On my little property a 22lr is all I thought I needed. But yesterday morning I went out at about 0400 and what did I hear but a pack of 5-6 coyotes? They were eyeballing my neighbors goats and singing them some songs. I don’t have any firearms or I would have tagged the one that ran right in front of me about 35 yards away. This morning at about 0330 I started hearing rifle fire, about 6-7 shots semi automatic. Things that make you say hmmmmmmmm. If he had thermal sights…..

Excellent video! I might have to put one or more purchases of firearms and ammo, that I've been contemplating, on hold for the time being and pick up a rifle and scope like yours along with a few boxes of ammo and go coyote and/or hog hunting here shortly. Don't ask me why, it's just the way my little bitty mind works I guess but, visualize a Ruger 10/.30 Carbine for coyote and hog hunting out to 100 yards or so. It might have just a tee tee bit more recoil than a .22 Magnum, but you could reload the brass.

I have a savage 93 22 mag its got that thick barrel on it. Its my fav gun. I can not shoot winchester shells in it they misfire all time !! If there clasified as a cheap gun there a great gun !! I was shooting sub sonic short cb touds 1 day outta my pistol. I went to water the lawn next day and water was spayin out sprinkler great for a few mins then it stoped. Took sprinkler off dumped a cb shell out of it. Couldnt figure out how it got in there till i turned water back on and saw a small stream of water coming out of hose 40 ft away from sprinkler. I hit the hose with that thing and it just went thru one side ! Lol

I love the .22mag but I only hunt with HP ammo. Used a solid point one time at a ground hog at about 75 yards with my marlin rifle. Hit him mid back through the chest- he just walked away. Felt bad about that one.

I feel it may have been 1 of those oddball rounds that just so happens to not open up and mushroom out, I have seen it on other people testing vmax and hollow points, the entrance holes looked about the same size. Sad I wanted to see it spread

I picked up some of this stuff back around the end of June/early July but still haven't had a chance to run it out of my CMR30 yet. I found the shape of the projectile pretty interesting because it kinda lends itself to possibly making it through 3a soft body armor unlike hollow points or flat point TMJ stuff. I've seen where 22WMR could make it through when fired from a revolver, though not consistently at all (1 round out of 5 shot), but this particular round has me curious.

Love the 22mag, I own 4 of them. Never have came across any Remington ammo though. All CCI and Hornady. Although I think CCI and Remington are in cahoots.

  • @exothermal.sprocket

Very similar to CCI's Gamepoint. They are designed to have controlled expansion and penetrate, for small game. I bet Remington's are doing a 20-30 fps better than CCI. I'm really liking what Remington has been doing to their ammo in the last couple years. Shedding that bad image they used to have. Quality is an apt word now.
