I'm so glad I found this channel. I love the arts & it's many cultural backgrounds from all over the globe, be it: Ancient, early 19th & 20th century retro, art nouveau vintage, or modern. They all have something to offer, contemplate, learn & inspire. And for that, I'm grateful . 🙏🏻 Thank you, V&A!
Such a lovely, tiny, precious documentary, very well made and very well explained by the sculptor. So easy to understand the process and witnessing the creation of a piece is so magic.
Ty for your wonderful videos. Since finding your channel I've learned so much, I've gained so many new techniques to learn from. You truly are amazing and I am thankful for your teachings and talent 😊
There are cameras, 3D scanners, 3D printers and this woman sit down to draw a masterpiece............ That paper she's holding is a masterpiece too... I woud frame that and keep in my living room.
I don't remember who said it, but I recall my mom reciting a quote that went something like "Art is never finished, only abandoned.".... I've always enjoyed and remembered that.
I remember a remark made to a bronze worker. "so how long does it take to polish this door, well I polish it until they take it away" intriguing comment.
I've been a full-time working sculptor for over thirty years, and the quote is 100% accurate. The only thing that makes sure a piece is finished, is a deadline.
I love the feeling of this video and love clay. I am not an artist but I am involved in ceramics and pottery for over 30 years. In my opinion, regardless of the original, the faces are not ...alive, the female arms are too thick and her breasts are way too high positioned and not realistic. Of course, I understand that this is made after the museum piece and I respect the artist's vision and technique. It is just my comment. I hope my opinion will be seen as a positive and constructive aspect. I am also on the side that considers that the artist of the original piece is NOT Donatello because the work is kinda...missing the life and acuity in perspective that Donatello is known for.
The arms are thick and the breasts too high on the original. She did a good job copying it. It's quite obviously not by Donatello, but a sub-par piece probably by an apprentice. Copying bad work isn't easy. 🤭
@@BlueLineofthesky The concept is pretty basic, the composition I think is ok, its mostly the execution that is bad. It's muddy and incoherent. The whole thing looks like a rush job.

And occasionally you leave it on the bus… (ask me how I know!)

This is every piece I've ever made. 😂
Wonderful video.
Thank you,

I absolutely love these videos!
A joy to watch a craftsman such as this gent. Beautiful work made to look as easy as breathing. Such is the skill of a craftsman.
almost the right gender
She’s not a gent. But she’s very skilled. Wow.
Is "gent" not viewed as a gendered term where you are? That's kind of interesting if so.
¡Maravilloso trabajo!
Thank you💓🙏🏼
This was beautiful !

Fascinating
Master Splinter taught him well
Is there a specific reason you don't use a bat to move the relief around the studio? Very clear video. Thank you.

Did Donatello have anything better to do?!
That’s a really bad copy.
Thank you, i was scrolling to find that comment.
It's a decent copy of a bad original.

@@tthomas184 True. She is a good artist but somewhow the original ensamble is disturbing visually. Not only in details, but as a concept.

@@tthomas184 Yes. True.
@@BlueLineofthesky You also pointed out its lacking the acuity of perspective Donatello is known for. Missed that, So true.
Wow this clay is very plastic
